Chapter Text
As you may have read in the summary. This is a spin-off from another of my stories (it belongs to the "same universe", so to put it).
When I was writing the story of "The Color of Our Souls" I had a lot of ideas that got half-discarded because of the story's narrative. And over time they piled up until they became this.
It started with the existential doubt of how Arcane's events would change based on the changes I made to Vi's past (part of her parents' death, to Vander's attitude and even Violet's as a person. Her good relationship with Greyson. Etc.) And with that little universe I created back then, this spin-off was born.
Due to the nature of this story, I have left this small part for the "Synopsis/Explanations".
Please read the note according to the appropriate thread.
NOTE (For those who NOT read "The Color of Our Souls"):
If you are new here, let me introduce myself. I'm Enzo, the author of multiple stories about this ship we all love. About half a year ago, I finished a story called "The Color of Our Souls" in which I made some changes regarding Vi's past. If you haven't read it, don't worry. It's not at all necessary to understand this story - although there will be small references, it won't be anything particularly relevant -
However, I do need to explain some changes that have been made in the story:
- Vi's parents are killed by Enforcers when she was six years old. Vander saves and then adopts her.
- This is recorded in the story previously mentioned, but VI had an excellent relationship with Vander.
- Vander tells Vi about his dealings with Greyson and even introduces them to each other when Vi is thirteen. At first she is upset, but Vander makes her understand that she should give Piltover a chance. After this conversation, Greyson develops a great affection for the kids and maintains an almost maternal relationship with them.
- Greyson has a "something" with Vander that is never made clear, but it goes beyond a working relationship.
- Vi sees Greyson and Benzo die before she goes to find Vander. And when she goes to the factory for him, she knows who Silco is (let's just say Vander has the conscience to tell Vi about his past so she doesn't repeat his mistakes) and how dangerous he is, which is why she leaves both Ekko and Powder together in The Last Drop.
- Powder's "bomb incident" never happens here. She escapes with Ekko and they have to survive together by building the Firelights shelter
- Powder becomes "Jinx" in her own way, but never falls into Silco's hands.
- We begin this story as things are falling apart. Right at the moment when, canonically in the series, Jinx's bomb would explode, and from there, how things change along this story will develop. So how Vi reacts to Caitlyn, how they meet and become partners.
Please. Have fun. Any additional questions can be answered in the comments, so don't be shy to ask.
NOTE (For those who HAVE read "The Color of Our Souls"):
All the events that occurred regarding Vi's past (compiled from Chapter 5: Powder Blue - to Chapter 12: Shadow Grey) remain the same, following the chronological line. However, from chapter 13 [which would be the first chapter of this story], changes begin regarding Vi's future. As much as her story with Caitlyn and her siblings evolves.
Yes. In this story we will see a development of romance CaitVi.
The first 2-3 chapters of this story may feel similar to "The Color of Our Souls". Because the situations are basically the same. As the author, I have done this as an introduction for readers who either have not read the referenced story, as well as those who do not remember it in as much detail.
From the aforementioned chapter, I must clarify that the situations will NOT be the same. Vi's (and later Caitlyn's) path unfolds alternatively to chapter 14 in question, and from there there will be many changes. While there will still be winks at situations or actions, things will be explained chronologically, looking at the present. And it must be said that the further we go into this spin-off, the further it will be from its predecessor.
As a final conclusion, we can say that these two stories belong to the same universe because they share the same past. That these two stories belong to the same universe because they share the same past. But "the future", after Vi is released from Stillwater, develops in a completely different way.
So if you come from reading the previous story, feel free to enjoy this one. I bet I'll still manage to surprise you.
NOTE (For those WHO WANT to read "The Color of Our Souls"):
If you are picky like me and like to read the complete sagas. This is your place.
If you want to read my previous story "The Color of Our Souls", you can find it uploaded right here in my profile.
I'll leve you with the summary:
“It was Hextech's best creation! That, at least, was what Jayce thought.
A machine capable of synthesizing memories and projecting them into photo-realistic 4D illusions.
To show, as their campaign said, "The true colors of a person".
Vi thought it was bullshit.
Maybe she was a bigger fool for doing this, just because Caitlyn asked her to.
---
If people were colors
What color would our protagonists be painted?”
Or
Piltover sees a recollection of Vi's most personal memories thanks to a machine created by Jayce and Viktor that seeks to understand and understand Zaun.
The workings of this invention, as well as all the context, are in Chapter 1. While Caitlyn's memories are collected in chapters 2 to 4.
If you want to go straight through Vi's memories. You can read chapter 1 for the context and skip to chapter 5 where her life begins to be told. As I explained in previous notes, this subplot begins to develop somewhere between chapters 12 and 14. You can stop reading there if you like, or read all the way through, as Vi's story isn't told until chapter 24, with its subsequent resolution in chapters 26 and 27.
Just to clarify before you rush out to read it, the events that take place in this spin-off will NOT be the same as in "The Color of Our Souls". The situations will change from chapter 4 (of this story. 14 and 15 of the aforementioned), but from then on the outcome of the events, characters, and situations will effectively be split into two alternate paths to the other, with no further relationship beyond the fact that they take place in "the same universe".
As I said, stories that share the same past. With alternate futures
That said. Feel free to read it if you want.
With the clarifications made. Please enjoy this story
Also to say at once. I will update it every Tuesday here on AO3.
