“How are you doing, Sissel?” she scratched him behind the ears, a soft tickle that made him purr. “Still a kitten, are you?”
I will forever be. He mewed, even though he knew she couldn’t understand that. He was immortal, he couldn’t die. He wouldn’t want to - after everything that had happened, the deep past that didn’t haunt him - it couldn’t haunt him after all - but he felt it. In his non-aching bones, and as the years turned and passed.
(or, Sissel reflects on how no one remembers him - and oddly, how he's fine with that.)
