Chapter Text
“Fuck off…” You mumbled, slamming on your phone’s alarm for 7am. Your head pounded, as you blinked a few times. Strings of light bathed your form, but you were not feeling it.
Glaring at the light that caused your head’s pain to enhance, you tried to turn over, only to falter.
Your eyes trailed down to the arms around your waist. Oh.
You craned your neck awkwardly, to see Dust holding you as best he could, a light purple flush on his face as he snuggled his face into your back.
…
What.
Feeling yourself go stiff, you began to adjust yourself out of Dust’s arms, stuffing the heat creeping up to your face down. His grip only hardened, causing you to let out a quiet yelp.
“Dust…”
A quiet groan is all that you got in response, as you sighed. Reaching over and grabbing your phone, you saw a few texts.
You clicked on them, first one was an image from Ink, of him on a ladder and Nightmare dangling off the ladder in… Christmas lights? Huh.
You saw a text under it.
“SHIT HE GOT OUT, HE’S AFTER ME”
You let out a quiet chuckle, before opening a text from Nightmare. He was asking if you had any luck or tracks, an hour later sent another text asking if you were unavailable. Last one was “okay.”
You felt a bit bad for ignoring them, since you and Dust definitely got a bit stubborn and decided to get smashed.
“too bright…” the deep mumble caused you to jump a little, before being pulled down into the bed again by Dust, as he grumbled. “too cold too…” he said.
“Everythings too much for you right now, eh?” You received a hum as he pulled the blanket over you two more, and despite your blush you couldn’t help the chuckle.
That seemed to snap Dust out of his stupor as he pushed you away from him, causing you to fall right off the bed with a yelp. You heard him fall off the other side too. “What the hell, Dust?!”
“th’ fuck?!” He yelled, as he stood up, rubbing his skull with small purple tears at the ends of his sockets. “why didn’t you wake me up?!”
“I tried.”
“my ass!” He yelled, and you glared at him. “Stop yelling, it’s too early for this shit.” You grumbled, as he shook his head.
He grabbed his scarf from the side of the bed, before storming out of the room. Huh, he must really hate being vulnerable.
You couldn’t blame him, instead grabbing your phone and sitting back on the bed. Despite the pounding headache, you texted Nightmare.
* Hey, sorry for not responding. Was unavailable. You guys decorating over there? That’s awesome.
You about turned your phone off, but a notification stopped you. Wow, that was fast.
- yes we decided to engage in decoration. Traditional human decoration. Perhaps not the best idea with our current states, but it was done nonetheless.
- Do, enlighten me, what caused your unavailability?
You took your lip between your teeth, chewing on it for a moment. How were you supposed to say that you and Dust got smashed for the fuck of it?
* Dust and I got side tracked.
That should suffice for now. Pulling up Ink’s texts, you responded.
* Morning. How was last night?
Waiting a moment, you guessed he was still asleep, so instead you got out of bed to face the horrible day. Oh and take some damn pain killers.
“You sure? Nothing?” You asked as you glanced at Dust, who was dying on the bean bag. “nothing. how many times do i gotta repeat myself?”
“Okay, Mr. Bitter.” You said, putting the cream packets aside, before handing Dust his plain black coffee. He took his with a nod, sitting up.
Grabbing your own properly sugared coffee, you sat down at the small table. “Any plans for today? We have to go continue looking for Error, we can’t get sidetracked again.”
He hummed, looking at his reflection in his coffee. “pull up the news, maybe there’s something on there. humans like to make anything a massive deal, even if it’s just a sighting.”
That… wasn’t a bad idea. You grabbed the remote and turned the flatscreen TV on, switching channels until you eventually landed on a news channel.
Letting that play, you began to rummage through the fridge. “We’re doing eggs, ‘cause there ain’t much else that takes low effort.” You said, popping some in the pan.
He was focused on browsing your phone, so you just focused on cracking the eggs into the heating up pan.
You weren’t too proud of yourself for getting sidetracked like that last night, but you can’t say you regretted it.
Thoughts of that moment outside the bar (before he fucking licked you) and this morning ran through your head, even if they were unwanted.
You had no time to think about your questionable feeling towards Dust, since you had a literal destroyer to chase after. Not to mention Dream.
Your stomach felt sick.
How was he doing? You guessed still resting. Hopefully getting better.
The smell of burning caused you to quickly flip the egg, as you plated the other one. Between the worry for Dream, the mixed feelings towards Dust, the destroyer on the loose, and your mom, you’ll admit last night really did get a lot off your shoulders.
It felt nice to just have fun without worrying.
But, that’s a lot to ask for. For now, you’d need to go back to focusing on the big things. Quickly plating the eggs, you turned towards Dust.
His expression caused you to stop.
He looked at you with a mix of concern and wariness. “‘y might wanna look at this…” He said, slowly handing you the phone.
It was a text from Nightmare. And the contents caused you to drop the plate in your hand.
- Dream woke up. Return quickly.
