Work Text:

Before getting out of his car, Jay made sure to grab his wallet, keys and hat, putting it on before grabbing his camera. His car was parked in front of the closest gas station to his motel that he could find. If his apartment hadn’t been burned down he could’ve gone to get snacks over there, but that just wasn’t possible. Jay had worried about the tape running out, or there being a no filming policy, he had already thought out a plan. This had been due to his recently gained paranoia which made him feel as if something was watching him. Ignoring that, he started his short walk into the gas station building itself, his mind occupied with questions and things he had to finish. It’d been a while since he started this project, which was trying to figure what the fuck had happened to the Marble Hornets cast. He knew something wrong had happened and was too curious to stop. This was a dangerous road he was taking, which he knew considering his recent footage including the masked man. As he opened the door to the building he looked back, feeling as if someone— more likely something..— was watching him. The feeling could’ve been just his imagination, but still he he had—wanted—to check. His eyes darted around the area, to spot anything, but it was hopeless. Jay usually noticed the presence of someone if they were following him, but he could never seem to find the person. He was now inside, searching for the snacks he wanted, at least he could do this… Bingo! He had found the aisle that held such snacks along the lines of chips or beef jerky. On that note, Jah grabbed a bag of beef jerky, Cheez-Its and stopped in the candy aisle, grabbing a bag of gummy worms. One last thing he needed before he paid and headed out was any drink that contained caffeine. The further he dug, the less sleep he had been getting, which made it rather difficult for him to focus. He either had grabbed an energy drink or coffee, but Jay hadn’t been paying attention which it didn’t really matter, as long as it kept him up. As he grabbed his last item, he headed over to the register, placing everything on the counter. The cashier working the counter scanned everything, using the register to come up with the total Jay had owed,“$10.78 please!” The cashier’s voice was cheerful, even though she hadn’t seemed that happy. He dug through his wallet coming out with a total of $7.62. That was the only cash he had on him, and he didn’t know where the fuck his debit card was. He sighed as he began to pick up the bag of gummy worms to return them, considering the coffee instead since motel coffee was an option, but it always tasted off. Jay turned to walk back over to the candy aisle when a familiar voice called his name. “Jay?” the voice spoke, coughing right after. Jay adjusted his sight to the entrance seeing Tim, last time he’d seen him was the ‘screen-tes"—. Tim’s voice cut off Jay’s thought as he spoke again, “Jay, right? Haven’t seen you since the screen-test,” Tim chuckled nervously. “Y-yeah! That’s me, hey Tim what are you doing out here? Pretty far from where Marble Hornets was shot, which is near your house right?” Tim nodded, confirming he was far, “This was the closest station I could find since I was driving back— Hey Jay you need a little money?” he stared at the bag of candy Jay was still holding. Jay looked at the candy from Tim a few times before submitting and nodding, “Yeah..I’m a little short..Y-you don’t have to lend me any though! I could put this bac—“ Tim placed a five dollar bill on the counter, “That covers it? Right?” Jay nodded since this would be $12.62 in total, more then he needed to pay. The already irritated cashier, was finally happy that the stuff was paid for. She gave Tim his change, making sure to sound happy as she said bye to the two. Outside the building now were Tim and Jay. “Hey, thanks for covering me, I really didn’t need it, I could’ve put it back,” he smiled nervously. “Don’t sweat it Jay! If you want, you can pay me back any day, I don’t mind.” What mostly caught Jay’s attention was that Tim had already been smoking another cigarette. “Well I’ll see you around I guess?” “Mhm, you have my cell just in case you need to ask me anything.” Jay nodded, signaling he got the message before making his way over to his car. He placed the bag down in the passenger’s seat before the camera which sat on the dashboard. After everything was situated, he started his drive back to his motel to continue his tedious and seemingly never ending work..
