(This fanfic is from the story that I created for our group project. If my teacher finds it, I'm gonna delete this account from this site lol.)

Notes:

It’s been a while since I posted my first Sherlolly fanfic on ao3, and well it was really fun. So when my teacher announced that our project needs a short story, I decided to make one, but I kinda want to make it like sherlolly fanfic vibes. And our teacher liked it (I guess because of the design in our project that’s why he liked it.) I really want to post this story in ao3 since I haven’t posted another one since the first. So I hope you liked it, enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

In a world full of colors, Molly always rather sees her life as black and white. Since her birth, her surroundings were covered with only dull colors, only seeing only the colors white and black. Until she learned that everyone is born seeing only black and white until they see their soulmate.

The idea of having a soulmate has been engraved in her mind since she first heard it from her father, telling a story about their first meeting with her mother. Molly’s parents first meet in a coffee shop, bumping into each other as they looked right into their eyes, and suddenly her father sees the hazel eyes of her mother as his surrounding suddenly splashed with colors he didn’t see before. After that, their relationship began to develop, as her parents are now married, and they have Molly as their daughter. They are living together, happy and content with their lives.

Ah, Soulmate, what a romantic life they have been.

She has been wondering about all these things after learning about colors and soulmates. What might have happened if she had found her soul mate? What would happen if she met him or her? What color would she see first? What color were their eyes? When her teacher also discussed it at school, teaching about how they could identify the colors while not seeing the exact true color of it, and of course the tale of finding your soulmate and things and that.

Soulmates meant being colorful, getting and seeing a greater view of life. She had heard about other people's experiences, telling her that finding a soulmate is an amazing, once in a lifetime feeling that is unmatched by any other feeling or desire that people can find.

As she learned more, Molly is craving more about it. In fact, when she heard that one of her classmates found their soulmate and saw color for the first time at a young age, she was envious of it. Molly also wants to find and learn about her soulmate and wants to see other colors too. When she told it to her father, he just laughed and pinched her cheek softly, as he looked at her adoringly.

“Darling, I know you want to meet your soulmate, but you are still young, you need to wait for a long time before finding it. Waiting will make you even more prepared and will make your life better in the long run.” Her father explained to her. But she was not satisfied enough with his answer, so she asked more.

“But what if I didn’t meet him when I’m older? What will happen to me?” Molly asked curiously, waiting for the question to be answered. But her father only smiled at her, until he goes to closer to her, holding her hands gently as he answered,

“Molly, there’s nothing to worry about that, you’ll meet your soulmate soon, just wait. When you get older like me, I’m sure that you will meet your soulmate in the meantime. Promise me that you’ll be patient, okay?” Her father calmly said as he showed his pinky finger, showing the sign that she needed to make a promise to her father. Molly nodded to him and locked her pinky finger into his.

And then Molly waited just like she promised, being a patient and obedient child to her parents. Always focusing on her studies and still living in a gray world full of black and white. Until at the age of 17, her father died in a car crash, and it was heartbreaking news for her mother and her to know that the love of their life is gone, and her mother colorful life became dull just like her over again. When their soulmate died, the other half colorful vision will turn gray again, just like the unbonded ones. And their lively home became a depressing, lonely house. Her mother, who was now the breadwinner for the family, grew busier and more distant as a result of the daily mountain of paperwork she was handling. Being an only child makes Molly even more alone because her mother is constantly working outside and occasionally doesn't even notice her loneliness inside their house.

As she became older, Molly was used to seeing the world in a dull way as life was getting harder for her. A gray world consumed her life as she was still always working on her studies, but she also became uninterested in finding a soulmate, unlike what she was used to. But Molly waited for years, she waited but no one came into her life. Her life is still gray and after graduating from college, there is no other color added to her sight except for black, white, and gray only. At the age of 30, she came to the conclusion that she would never meet her soulmate as she can handle not having someone in her life. So she only focused on her work as a pathologist and saving money for her future life.

Until her life changed when someone who was leaving in front of St. Bart managed to bump into her. She was late for her work, so she was walking quickly while she was holding a cup of coffee. And then suddenly she accidentally splashed it into the man’s suit, completely ruining his outfit. The man groaned in pain, as the hot coffee soaked his clothes.

“Oh gosh, I’m really sorry sir! I ruined your suit, I’m so sorry…” She apologized as she went in and tried to help him, completely ignoring the fact that she was late for her work. The other man behind him tried to stop him. “It’s fine miss- Sherlock, are you alright?” The man with a black jacket tried to examine his friend, but the worried woman is still apologizing to him.

“No it’s not, look, your friend’s clothes are completely soaked with my coffee, I can buy a new suit for you since there’s a mall close to this building. Please just let me help you.” Molly beggingly requested the man, still trying to help him.

The man named sherlock was not moving, completely frozen between the two people in front of him, just intensely staring at her. Molly noticed his sudden lack of movement as she finally looked at the man in front of her. Color rushed to her sight as her surrounding suddenly washed all the gray colors her eyes used to see, looking at the alluring eyes of the man she is currently staring at.

“Wait, that’s not grey.” Molly thought.

It looked beautiful.

“Oh…”

“Color.” Both could only respond with that, not breaking the glare at each other, Molly suddenly feels overwhelmed by the color she was not used to seeing. All the colors splashed her sight quickly, but the sensation grew stronger as she saw his eyes full of shock. She also felt surprised by this sudden revelation between them. She had just met him minutes ago, accidentally bumping into him, she didn’t even know his name or his personality and now here they are.

“Wait, are you two alright? What is happening-” The man in the jacket speaks again, confused but interested in what he sees. The person in front of him just completely stared at each other deeply for minutes, and she realized what is happening between them. “Oh. I see…” And started the awkward silence for a whole minute.

“Molly Hooper, Molly Anne Hooper. One of the best pathologists here in St. Barts, who was running late because she didn't set her phone to alarm before she went to sleep. Her socks didn't match, and her hair wasn't properly tied back. I also noticed that you had picked up your phone to apologize to me while checking at the time. That phone needs to be charged right away or it will shut off.” He quickly said all his thoughts all at once. She looked down and saw her sock was not matched at all, and looked at her phone, the battery was at 2%. She couldn’t move her mouth as she was still surprised and embarrassed by what happened. He just chuckled at her reactions.

“This man beside me is Doctor John Watson, my colleague. Since he mentioned my name earlier, I don’t think I need to introduce myself”. Sherlock replied as John slowly waves his hand at her awkwardly.

“H-how…”  Molly stuttered, as she slowly looked shyly at him. She couldn’t believe it.

“I believe you can see color now, no need to apologize for my suit. But we need to go now, we have work to do, and you’re already late. Meet me at this place later after your work.” Sherlock grabs a card inside the coat of his suit and gives it to her. She accepted it and held the card that he gave.

“See you later.” He quickly leaves the gate, leaving his friend Doctor Watson beside her.

“I’m sorry my friend acts like that, he is always like this, so you need to get used to it. I guess see you later?” John smiled at her, she nodded, giving the same treatment to him. And John leaves following Sherlock outside St. Bart. She slowly goes inside the hospital and starts pondering about what happened earlier.

She finally finds her soulmate, and after years of waiting, her patience really pays off. What her father said is true, she is glad that she didn’t break her promise to her father. And now, the two of them need to know each other later, he needs some explanation to do and she still needs to help him in exchange for her sorry because of the coffee.

And their colorful story begins to play.

Notes:

I can't believe I posted two oneshot fanfics this year, help I guess I underestimate myself. I changed some parts of the fanfic from the original that I write since it has original names/characters on it, and I need to make sure that the person in this fanfic are in character (or at least, I tried). Again no beta since I have no friend to read this. I just posted this after i revised the story. Not sure if I can’t make another fanfic even our school year end is in weeks, for personal reasons, but I’ll try if I can. So that’s it, thank you for reading!
