“Padme? Everything is fine?”
Upon hearing her boyfriend's voice, Padmé quickly wiped away her tears before turning to face him ─ even though she suspected he could see her through the bathroom mirror.
“Yes, Ani, I'm fine” she said, trying to look really good, not looking at him as she washed her hands in the sink. “What are you doing in a women's bathroom?”
She laughed softly, still not looking at her boyfriend's face, just being able to feel him move until he was Padmé. He placed his two large hands on the brunette's face, seeing that she was indeed crying through her red eyes, despite the smile - or attempt - given by her.
“I saw you crying when you came in here. What happened? Did someone hurt you?”
“Of course not, Ani. Everyone likes me” she murmured softly.
It was true, in her last school year, Padmé was one of the most beloved girls in her school. She knew a lot of people, and most of them liked her, without exception. Her friendliness was contagious, her smile so beautiful that Anakin - and many others - found themselves lost in Naberrie's charms.
“People don't cry for nothing, Padmé.”
“It's silly” she turned her brown eyes away from his, feeling that he conveyed too much honesty and passion for her to bear without collapsing in his arms, as she felt safe enough for that.
“It's not, Padmé” he pressed his fingers lightly against her cheek, pulling her closer. “If you want… you can tell me…”
“It was a girl, she… she said that my straight hair was prettier than my curly hair.”
“What?”
“I told you it was silly, Ani. Let's go to class…”
Anakin paused for a moment to reflect, soon thinking that this had somehow affected Padmé's self-esteem. He didn't even know which girl had said that to him, but he hated her for making Padmé sad.
“It is not! It's your insecurity!” he said firmly, preventing her from moving by bringing one of his hands to her shoulders. “I'm sorry, Pads, but know that she is completely wrong! I love your hair! He is so beautiful, just like you.”
She gave a silly smile, Anakin always praised her, but even so, the compliments always had the same impact, leaving her cheeks red and her heart fluttering much faster than usual.
“You are the woman, not... you are the person! You’re the most beautiful person in the world. Your hair is like an angel's, Padmé. You also look beautiful with your straight, natural hair, you are beautiful in every way.”
