Taking the job of Mother Miranda’s personal errand girl had not been an easy decision to make. As a dirt poor resident of the village with a sick mother and a father who didn’t make nearly enough money, you needed the job. But, since your father worked the fields, he was gone for most of the day— so who would take care of your mother? When you asked this of Mother Miranda, she told you that you needn’t worry, that everything would be taken care of. She seemed so genuine, like she truly cared, that you took the job right then and there— not another question asked. Though, her sincerity had been but a guise, for her true demeanor was something you wished you’d never come upon.
