    Summary

Ashley Graham has seen the darkest side of the world, one she"d been priveledged enough to have been sheltered from until a week ago. Finally back in The States after being kidnapped by the Los Illuminados cult, Ashley Graham SHOULD feel safe, but even with the Secret Service on even higher alert, nowhere felt safe. How does one go back to the "real world" after a nightmare like that? The man who"d saved her life seemed to have an answer to that, but was he even worried about her now that his mission was over?

When it came to Hell, Leon Kennedy was pretty sure he had more knowledge than most religious scholars. After all, what else could you call the multitude of horrors caused by bioorganic weaponry he"d lived through? He"d never had a say in walking through the abyss, but took solace in the fact that his sacrifice meant others would be spared the torment. Last week, he"d been lucky to get both himself and the president"s daughter out of that hell.

It can be hard to find a light in a world as dark as the one they live in. What do you do when your light seems so out of reach, or that you don"t deserve to live in the light?

This story starts a week after the events of REm4ke.

quotes - Leon had seen too much horror in his life to have any desire to not see the humor in things. / She felt so safe and cared for when he talked to her like this. / “Fuck, thank you daddy.” Ashley froze with humiliation and she felt Leon’s face come to a halt beside hers. Instantly, all of the blood in her body rushed to her face. There was no way she’d just called him that. Everything that had happened between them leading up to this, all crushed because some depraved smut she’d found online years ago had warped her mind. Her mind searched for some way to tell Leon that she wasn’t some sick pervert with daddy issues, but the words just couldn’t be found. Leon had admittedly been caught off guard by the phrase. He’d never heard it used like that before, but there had been a certain draw to it. As soon as she’d said it, Leon could tell something was wrong. He moved his head back slowly against hers to check on her. One look told Leon that she felt ashamed beyond anything he could picture. He’d felt her grow warm when his cheek was pressed against hers, but blushing would be a criminal understatement. The poor girl had almost started crying again, her mouth trying to force words. / "I"m so sorry about that," she said. Ashley felt Leon"s thumb stroke her face and she leaned into the comfort of it. "It"s just, you make me feel so safe and comfortable, Leon. You don"t think I"m some sort of freak, do you?" Leon was powerless again, and couldn"t stop himself from kissing her. She"d just told him all he needed to hear. When he thought about it, that was all he wanted, to make her feel safe. His mind connected the concept with the term, and suddenly just the thought of being her "daddy" drove him crazy. He pried his lips from hers and let them drag against the soft skin of her cheek. "Not at all, princess." / "Arms up." Leon"s voice had that same commanding tone to it that had in Valdelobos when he"d given her orders. Her arms went up instantly. She knew she would do anything Leon told her to do when he talked like that. / " You"re pretty cute without your glasses ," he"d told her after knowing her for all of a day. He could still picture her left eyebrow shooting up at the remark. Her first response had been that her girlfriend thought so too, but it was followed up with a verbal lashing on qualifying compliments and why his approach was so awful. / Still, she"d either forgiven him, or taken pity on him, when he soaked up every word and asked questions back. / Survival was easy; do whatever it takes to make sure you and yours are alive at the end. Adjusting back to society after Raccoon City and the rest of the nightmares, on the other hand, had proven way more difficult. / look for quotes in chapters 5 and earlier / chapter 8
