Chapter Text
It had been a week since Snape had called Lily that hideous word. It had been a week since Lily had decided that Snape wasn’t worth her time. It had been a week of Snape sending letters, coming up to her in hallways and passing her notes.
She never opened them or talked to him, of course, but it was obvious that they were pleas of friendship and forgiveness. She had thought that he’d backed off by now but obviously he had to prove her wrong.
It was Monday, which was already bad in Lily’s opinion, but she’d also gotten her period this morning so all she wanted to do was lay in bed and read. If Snape even tried to touch her, she was going to snap.
Potions was her first lesson. She was good at it, yes, but that doesn’t mean she liked it. It reminded her too much of Snape and Potions was more experimentation than anything. Slughorn was also a massive dickhead.
He only cared about the pure bloods, no matter how stupid they were! And even then, he focused on the men. It was so incredibly frustrating!
At exactly nine in the morning, Lily sat slumped over her desk, waiting for Slughorn to actually show up and start the lesson. She had her head face down on her books, her hair messy and all over the place.
Mary sat next to her, immediately dropping her books and grabbing a piece of her hair. Mary loved to braid hair, more specifically Lily’s hair.
“You okay, darling?”
“Mmm, cramps. Potions. Monday.” Lily lifted her head to look at Mary as she spoke.
Mary nodded knowingly, “Ah, yes. The holy trinity, cramps, potions and Mondays.”
Lily snorted and sat up straighter, fixing her hair, opening her book and getting her quill ready. She liked pens more. Mary seemed slightly confused at the sudden change but then Slughorn walked in and immediately looked towards them.
Slughorn sighed, “Ms McDonald, five points from Gryffindor for not being prepared for class.”
Mary groaned, “Darling, I swear you’ve got a sixth sense for teachers!”
Lily shrugged, “Hogwarts has echo-y halls, I heard his footsteps.”
Then Mary frowned, “Wait, did he say five points because I wasn’t ready for lesson?”
Lily gave a small nod.
Mary groaned in frustration, “For fucks sake!”
Mary stood up, her chair screeching slightly, “Oi, Sluggy!” Slughorn looked up in surprise, “Yeah, you! How come I get five points off for not being ready? My quill is ready, my book is out, I’m not doing anything against the dress code!”
“Ms McDonald, you may have your book out, but it is not open and ready.”
“Right because I can’t do that in less than five seconds? Also, I don’t know what page we are in because you keep switching our lessons around!”
“Ms McDonald, I don’t appreciate you blaming me-.”
“No, I don’t appreciate you being blatantly against muggleborns! Mulciber doesn’t have a quill or his book, Avery is hexing someone in the back, Sirius is doing their hair and James is trying to make up some poem for the new love of his life! Do they get points taken off too?”
“Ms McDonald, ten points for talking back! If you do not sit and behave, I will have to give you a detention!”
Mary scoffed and sat down.
“Have I told you how much I love you recently?” Lily asked with a grin.
Mary smiled and leaned forward for a kiss.
—————
Slughorn had explained what potion they were making and now everyone was walking around the room and talking, trying to get their potion done. Mary and Sirius were rambling about the hair products they used and giving each other tips -even though their hair was completely different- while Remus and Lily were doing what they normally did in potions.
Which was chat shit about everyone. Lily and Remus usually didn’t let their accents get too strong but now their accents were thick and whenever someone walked past they looked at the two like they were speaking a different language! Honestly, pure bloods were so strange with their accents.
Lily saw Slughorn give a pointed glance out of the corner of her eye and sighed. “Rem, I can get your stuff too.”
“That’d be great, Lils. Oi, Padfoot!”
Sirius turned to look at them, “Yes, my dear Moony, moon of my life?”
“Stop chattin’ about your hair and help me!”
Lily turned to Mary, “I’m just gonna get our stuff, okay?”
Mary nodded, looking a little distracted as she flipped through her book, trying to find what page they were on.
Lily walked to the door in the corner of the room and stepped inside, looking at the labels and occasionally picking up what she needed. Suddenly, the door opened.
She turned to see who it was and almost dropped her ingredients. Of course. How could she forget that both Merlin and God hated her?
“Lily.” Snape breathed and suddenly, Lily felt like she wasn’t Lily anymore, like her name had been twisted and she didn’t like it, it felt dirty and unclean.
“Snape.”
Lily was about to turn around again, to pick up the rest of the ingredients and go, run, leave, fall back into Mary’s awaiting arms. But Snape stopped her. He grabbed her wrist and pulled, knocking ingredients from her hands.
“What are you-?”
Lily was cut off by Snape pressing his lips against hers, pushing her against the wall and letting his hands roam her body.
She pulled away and shoved him, “What the fuck is wrong with you?! Get away from me!”
Snape lunged forward again, “You know you want this, Lily.”
“No, stop!”
Lily’s hand formed a loose fist and flew into his greasy face, sending Snape staggering a bit. He growled -actually growled like a wild fucking dog- and stepped forward to grab at her once more.
Before he could, he was pulled back by the collar.
“I believe she told you to stop.”
It was Remus. Oh, thank God for Remus! Lily needed to restock his chocolate stash for this.
“This is none of your business, filthy half-breed!”
“I think it is my business, actually.”
Remus grabbed a fistful of Snape’s hair and slammed his face into the wall, his face scrunching in pain. Remus pulled his hand away and made a face of disgust.
“I’m honestly surprised there’s not grease dripping from my hand right now.”
There wasn’t any grease but Remus had managed to pull out some of Snape’s hair and get Snape’s face so bloody and injured it looked like he had dipped his face in red paint. Remus and Lily left the room and went back to their potion.
—————
Lily was a little scared about what would happen now and rightfully so. Snape did exactly what she was afraid of. He tried to do it again when she was alone.
She was shoved back against a wall, hands roaming her body, cold lips leaving sloppy kisses down her neck, shaking fingers struggling with buttons.
Lily screamed and shoved and kicked and fought. Finally, she managed to push him away.
“Get the fuck out or I’m calling Remus!” She warned.
He sneered at her, “He’s not here, Lily. He can’t save you.”
He pointed his wand at her, her own wand left near the door.
Lily practically screamed, “Remus!”
Lily didn’t even know how it happened but suddenly, Remus was there. With a swift hex, Snape fell to the floor, struggling to get away from the writhing snakes. Remus pulled his cloak off and wrapped it around Lily.
“Hey, you go straight to Poppy, okay?”
Lily gave a quick nod, glancing back at Snape and left the room, grabbing her wand along the way. After that she didn’t see Remus or Snape for at least another three hours.
When Remus appeared again he had bloody knuckles. Snape had to stay in the hospital wing for a month and when he came out, it looked like he’d been hit by multiple trains.
Snape never tried it again. She was safe from him. Or at least, that’s what she thought.
She was never really safe from anyone, was she?
