Work Text:
Finding the people of the City is all Matthew wants to do. Find them and bring them safely back home. Wherever that new home will be, wherever they decide to place down roots. Somewhere safe and hidden, probably.
That’s what Na’el would want, yeah. A place Moebius wouldn’t just find ‘em out of nowhere. A place where they can live in safety until Moebius is taken down and then plan their next steps.
Yeah, that sounds good. People like his sister and the other citizens can just sit tight and be safe while he and the rest take the time to head out and take the fight to those bloody arseholes…
Na’el would love that, once he finds her. He’s sure of it. He tells A as much as they travel together. Maybe out of excitement or maybe out of fear. Like if he keeps insisting they’re all gonna be okay, it’ll come true.
It will be, it has to be, he tells himself. Granddad left this to him and he wasn’t about to let him down. He would make sure not to. He would protect Na’el and the future of the City, no matter what it took!
Maybe save some more folks to join along the way. Like Glimmer and Nikol, even if Glimmer is all grumpy about it. At least Nikol is a good sport and happy to come along! That’s the kinda spirit he needs.
He needs a lot of it when he sees what Alpha has turned Na’el into. The way she’s being used. Has to march on as A and his own great grandfather start making him question just what his place in this world is.
He can’t give up now -- he’s found Na’el. All that’s left is to bring her home. Save her from that thing holding onto her psyche and bring them both into a future worth fighting for. Not one built on pretty lies, but a real future.
Just like Granddad would have wanted. Like their great grandmum would have wanted, too, he’s sure. Granddad wouldn’t be wrong about something like that, after all.
He would bring her home, find anyone left. They would have a future worth fighting for.
