Chapter Text
After taking the elevator back down to the garage upon realizing that they forgot to grab Ganyu’s luggage in the trunk, the two women found themselves getting ready for bed much earlier than expected (even for a morning person like Keqing). While Ganyu wasn’t tired and was actually feeling quite alert, it was obvious that Keqing was extremely exhausted from recent events. Ganyu couldn’t blame her, although she couldn’t help but be slightly disappointed that they would have to wait before doing anything other than sleeping together (in the literal sense).
“I’m sorry I’m going to sleep so early,” Keqing apologized, then let out a large yawn as they climbed in bed. “I promise I’ll make it up to you tomorrow.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Ganyu reassured, cuddling up to her girlfriend under the sheets. “Just get some rest, honey.”
The affectionate pet name made her heart flutter to say in such a domestic setting, but it was Keqing’s reaction that made her feel warm all over. Even with only the dim lighting provided by Keqing’s nightlight (cute), Ganyu could clearly see the way the other woman’s lips curled into a bashful smile (so cute).
“Love you, Ganyu. Thank you for being here with me,” she whispered, then closed her eyes (so, so cute).
Damn it. Ganyu’s never felt her heart ache like this, at least outside of watching videos of dogs reacting to their army parents coming home. She wanted to shove her face into the pillow and squeal while kicking her feet in the air, but since that wasn’t an option (unless she wanted to embarrass herself), she’d settle on trying to get some rest too.
…
……
………
She’s not sleepy.
Ganyu let out a muffled sigh, then tried to carefully get up from the bed without waking Keqing. Unfortunately(?), Keqing instinctively wrapped her arms around Ganyu the moment she moved, sensing her girlfriend’s attempted departure even while asleep.
Fuck. What was she supposed to do now? This was like having a sleeping cat on her lap while she needed to use the restroom. At least she had the foresight to take care of that before getting in bed.
Ganyu settled back down somewhat reluctantly, because while she would have preferred to have access to her phone, serving as Keqing’s teddy bear wasn’t an unpleasant experience so far, even if she was getting uncomfortably warm.
Whatever. She could just distract herself with her own thoughts instead of the internet until she fell asleep, or at least try to. It wasn’t an ideal solution to stave off her boredom, it was preferable to waking Keqing up by accident. Hopefully she wouldn’t get too restless while stuck in one position like this, even if she’d rather be trapped under Keqing instead.
Okay, maybe thinking about that would do more harm than good. She needed to relax, not get worked up.
Ganyu tried her best to calm down, but then her brain decided to remind her about one of the many sources of her anxiety: Ningguang’s wedding, or rather if/whether Keqing would/could attend. Would Ningguang let her, and would Keqing even want to?
Ganyu knew neither of them wanted her to play mediator, and it was probably best for her relationship with both of them if she didn’t. Despite her better judgment, she couldn’t help but want to do something about it. Maybe she wouldn’t be able to fix their relationship, but would it really hurt to try?
…
God, she sounded like her mother. Was that why Xianyun was always so damn nosy and butting into everyone’s business? That thought alone was enough to curb her desire to get involved, at least for now.
After taking a few deep and measured breaths, Ganyu found her body finally relaxing. Right here, right now, she couldn’t ask for anything more. It was almost like she was at peace.
Ganyu closed her eyes, feeling Keqing’s steady breathing begin to lull her to sleep—
And then, just when Ganyu was just about to fall asleep, Keqing started snoring like a foghorn.
