Wednesday's Breakdown

Summary:

Wednesday gets a breakdown....

Work Text:

It was a long, tedious fight for Wednesday, and she still felt the effects months after what had happened. It was 4 months after the battle, and Wednesday was in her dorm, looking up at the ceiling. It was 3 am, and she couldn’t sleep which wasn’t unusual for the girl except for the fact she usually got 3 hours a night. Now, she couldn’t sleep at all, and she knew Enid was worried about her and her sleep. She was before, but she was extra worried now. She glanced over, looking at the wolf sleeping in her bed, fully sprawled out. Wednesday sighed, getting up as she knew sleep was hopeless and started to change into some jeans and a random hoodie. Shoving her hands into the hoodie pocket, she grabbed her phone and her headphones that Enid gifted her, putting on her playlist immediately. It was full of songs that reminded her of home, as she was wandering into the forest. Unaware that someone else had seen her and was following her.

She proceeded to walk over to the direction of the crypt after collecting a bag from a tree and was humming some music under her breath as she was walking quickly, the other person able to keep up but not too loud to alert the short goth. The other was shocked to see the doors to the crypt open then, and that’s when the other left to give them some privacy.

Meanwhile, Wednesday closed the door after stopping her music. She put her phone and earbuds in her pocket and got to work. Going onto her knees near the pillar where she was stabbed, she got cleaning equipment and tried to get rid of the persistent stain off of the stone. It brought back too many memories. and she didn’t want anyone seeing it to see her own weakness. She was scrubbing frantically at it, unaware of her hands burning and getting red.

Enid meanwhile was starting to wake up at her usual weekend wake up time. 8am. That’s when she stretched and got up, aware that Wednesday wouldn’t be there. She proceeded to go over to her closet, and grabbed out a skirt and also a sweater. She quickly changed then cleaned her teeth before she wandered down to go get breakfast, when she felt urgent tapping on her shoulder. She quickly looked back, then saw Thihg. “Thing!” She spoke happily as she was soon trying to understand his signals when she realised it was serious. “Where is Wednesday?” She then asked, knowing it had to do with her roommate, and best friend.
‘Crackstone Crypt. Go now!’ Thing tapped out. Immediately Enid did as told as she was running straight away while Thing was clutching onto her shoulder. Enid was quick, as she was skidding some of the way but she didn’t care, more worried about Wednesday than anything else, and ignored her friends.

Wednesday meanwhile was against the opposite pillar, crying as she was feeling the pain from that night, the guilt of hurting Enid who had a scarred face forever. That’s when she punched the wall hard, ignoring the pain as she continued to do it, her knuckles were starting to bleed. Sobs came out her mouth, thankful she had her moments alone like this as it would calm her down. She was noticing then how bad her knuckles were as they were swollen. She tilted her head as she was looking, before shrugging and was cleaning the walls again, her knuckles burning in pain more.

She went to continue where she left off with the puddle of blood when the door opened. She quickly went over before she saw it was Enid and froze, her knuckles still dripping blood. “Enid,” she spoke casually as she was looking at her. “What are you doing here?” She added on.
“Thing told me to come her and I’m glad I did. Are you ok? What happened to your knuckles?” Enid asked worried, and rushed over to Wednesday, holding her hands and was rubbing the knuckles, seeing how bruised and swollen they are. Wednesday was nodding.
“I am here to clean up this blood,” she answered, pointing to the blood spot. “I am brilliant, and I punched a wall. Well, a pillar to be exact,” she spoke as she was looking over at the pillar she punched.

That’s when Enid went over and hugged her quickly. “Please… can we go to the room and talk?” she then spoke, seeing how Wednesday had been crying and hid it from Enid. Blinking in shock, Wednesday sighed and nodded, looking at the girl and left her bag where it was.
“Let’s go,” Wednesday spoke straightforward. Enid was leading the way then as she was holding Wednesday’s hands, and was putting pressure on them. They soon reached the room. Students stared in concern but Wednesday just death glared them as she was starting to hurry up her pace, her boots hitting the floor hard.

Once in the room, Enid dropped her hands and got her medkit out, as Wednesday sat on the bed, waiting for her roommate to treat her as she couldn’t stop Enid. As Yoko would say, she was ‘whipped’. Leaned back, she looked up before Enid was next to her, tending to her wounds. “Why were you there?” She asked.
“To clean the bloodstains,” Wednesday explained.
“No, actually why. It can’t be just for that reason,” Enid spoke. Wednesday clenched her jaw.
“Goody resurrected me there. I died for a bit. That’s why,” she spoke. “I was wanting to know if I could’ve done something different,” she added on, looking at the scar on her hand, biting her lip. Enid’s eyes were even more gentle as she listened. “I wished I was able to know from the start, I scarred you forever. I hurt a lot more people too… I traumatised them. I nearly killed Weems, I killed Kinbott, I killed the mayor, there is too much guilt…” she then spoke, as she was ranting, trying to not cry too much. Tears were weakness.

“You can cry,” Enid spoke gently, brushing one stray tear away. Wednesday flinched at the touch before she was leaned into the touch, starting to let them out.
“You tell anyone and I will skin you,” she mumbled out, trying to be threatening. Enid just chuckled and shook her head.
“You wouldn’t though, would you?” Enid asked. Wednesday shook her head, more tears coming out as she then clung onto the taller girl, her face in Enid’s neck. Enid was rubbing her back gently and was letting her cry. This went on for an hour and a half before Wednesday was finally calm, and was just clinging onto Enid tighter. “Feeling better?” Enid asked. Wednesday just nodded, not able to speak as she was cuddled up even closer, and was nuzzled up slightly. “Want to sleep for now, and talk later?” Enid asked. Wednesday nodded. Enid smile gently and laid Wednesday down before she big spooned the smaller girl, hearing Wednesday asleep immafiately.

She smiled and kissed her cheek. She would help Wednesday.
