Chapter Text

When Aoba got home, he wasn’t expecting his front door to already be unlocked.

Weapon in hand, he walked into his house quickly surveying the rooms for intruders.

He turned startled when the light turned on.

“Gen?”

Genma Shiranui was in his apartment.

“Hey Ao”

Aoba put his weapons back in his pouch as he removed his shoes and gear.

“What the fuck Genma? You can’t just break into my house when I’m not here”

“I still have a key. You gave it to me” he replied as he waved the keys in his hand.

Aoba rolled his eyes but a smile grew on his lips.

“I didn’t think you still had those”

Genma shrugged.

“I decided too so I could always hide out here or scare you”

Aoba chuckled as he looked over at his closest friend.

He had missed Genma.

As he looked at him closely though, it didn’t take long for him to pick up that something was very very wrong.

He also knew that Genma would speak when he was ready.

There’s benefits to knowing someone since childhood.

Aoba walked into the kitchen, hearing Genma’s footsteps as he followed him.

“Ramen fine with you?” He asked as he opened his fridge.

Genma grunted in response, hopping onto the island counter that was close enough where they could talk comfortably but far enough that he wouldn’t be around the food or get burned.

There was comfortable silence between the two as Aoba cooked and Genma sat watching him.

“Hey Ao?”

“Hmm?”

“Do you remember when you told me a few years ago I should take caution when it comes to love?”

Aoba was thrown by the question but nodded in response.

“I do”

Genma chuckled a bit.

There was nothing behind it. Not one emotion.

Just a dead empty sound.

“I didn’t listen” Genma finally said and Aoba paused trying to process the meaning of the words.

“Fuck” he mumbled under his breath as he understood.

Aoba turned around, forgetting the food on the stove. He reached out as Genma fell forward into his arms.

“He cheated on me. What did I do wrong? Tell me Ao. Please tell me!”

Aoba just held his friend, feeling the tears that wet his shirt.

“Nothing. You did nothing Gen” he answered after a bit.

“Promise?”

Aoba’s grip tightened.

“I promise”

Notes:

Kind of a prequel to Burned if you want to see it that way.

Hope ya like it!
