“Look what I have” Juanaflippa’s grey writing tablet said, showing it to Tilín for a moment waiting for them to react. Tilín furrowed their eyebrows curiously, drawing a question mark on their tablet.
Flippa reached into her magenta bag, the one that her mother Mariana had given her for her birthday. She was glad Mariana came back to celebrate her birthday, but wished he had stuck around longer. Flippa understood, however, that despite having loving parents, it’s hard for them to love each other like they did her. Flippa pulled out her pistol, looking like a shotgun in her tiny hands. The barrel being a shiney metallic black fading into the regular silver color, slime stickers on the barrel. She was careful not to pull the trigger, despite the safety being on. She didn’t want to hurt her new friend or scare them in any way.
Tiling’s eyes lit up immediately, jumping up and down in joy, holding up one finger to signify that she give them a second. Tilín pulls out the exact same gun, this time having a duck charm with purple flower beads on the bottom of the handle, and a red ribbon just like theirs on the barrel. Flippa’s eyes wide as her mouth is agape, smiling. Tilín takes Flippa’s open hand, jumping up and down along with them. Flippa starts walking over to Uncle Roier’s and Aunt Jaiden’s house, holding onto Tilín and bringing them over. Quackity and Charlie were busy having drinks at the bar, chatting it up like always.
“Go play with Juanaflippa, the adults need to have a conversation, don’t go too far” Tilín’s dad, Quackity, had told them both.
A log sat next to the house, empty cans on the grass with bullet holes. Flippa sets her backpack down on the grass, before approaching the log and placing the 5 empty cans on the log. After that, she stands back 5 feet, stretching an arm out as to suggest that Tilín be careful and back up. Tilín follows her instructions, watching as Flippa undos the safety, lining up her pistol with the first can and shooting it down perfectly as the can fell back with a loud clanking noise.
Tilín stood there, amazed and excited clapping their hands before taking out their weapon and taking the safety off. Taking a deep breathe, Tilín lines up their barrel with the second can, shooting it with a loud BANG. They heard some birds fly away from the nearby forest, opening their eyes slowly before seeing that they had successfully made the shot! Gasping, Tilin set the gun down on the grass, before tackling Flippa in a hug, both giggling as they high fives each other. Tilín had done it!
After a while of shooting the cans for many rounds, their tummies rumbled. Tilín pointed to their mouth as they rubbed their stomach. Flippa took out her tablet, swiping the button at the bottom back and forth to clean the screen.
“Me too, maybe we can find some food somewhere”
Tilín packed up their things, looking into their bag as they took out a container with a single piece of avocado toast. They took out the food and split it in half, generously giving the larger portion to Flippa. They ate the small snack quickly, but where still very famished. Tilín scratched their head before finding some nearby berries in a bush. Flippa had taken out an avocado from her mom, Mariana’s, avocado tree. They gathered the snacks and put it into a small cloth, splitting up the food evenly. Flippa cut the avocado in half with a pocket knife as Tilín ran over to her, excitingly showing her the pieces of bread she had found in one of Uncle Roier’s outside chest, 4 to be exact. Tilín took out his spare salt and pepper packets from the smaller pocket of their bag, sprinkling each piece of toast that Flippa passed to them after spreading the creamy avocado mush. Each kid got a good helping of mystery berries and two pieces of avocado toast each.
The children giggled and chatted as they ate, hearing footsteps approach them. They turned around to see Charlie and Quackity smiling as Charlie snapped a quick photo of them.
“What’d I say about you gun Tilín? Be careful, you too Flippa. If you’re not using it out the safety back on.” the winged parent took Tilins gun and put the safety back on then doing the same to Flippa’s, packing away the weapons in their bags.
“Aw man, you guys should’ve told us if you were hungry, we could’ve gotten you a decent meal.” Charlie picked Flippa up, sitting her down on his lap as he sat on the grass.
“We didn’t want to bother you too” read Tilín’s tablet, Quackity smiling at them before popping a mystery berry into his mouth.
“Be careful with finding food out here, it can be poisonous sometimes”
Tilín nodded, before handing their parent a handful of their berries. Quackity kissed the top of their head before digging in. The four of them laughed and chatted as they had their mini picnic. The two kids becoming sleepy, which was a queue for them to go home. They hugged before saying one last goodbye to each other, setting off to each of their own houses. Both kids were tucked in their beds, fast asleep. They couldn’t wait till the next time they could have a play date together.
