Work Text:
A Quick Sketch of Joe Morton as Herb "Mac" McMahon and Keanu Reeves as Jack Traven in "Speed" because it is National Mac Day.
(See the end of the work for notes.)
Dear Keanu;
This is another of those days where I'm not sure if you want to hear from me. Maybe I upset you yesterday. I don't know. What I do know is that you don't really allow me days where I don't want to hear from you because I don't really ever hear from you at all.
But if you are mad, you've got to understand that this all is still fresh. The wound is open and it ain't some straight road I'm travelling to heal it. It's a series of mountains. So since I am back you are going to have to come with me for the ups and downs.
You might seal up your emotions, fine sir, but I'm not like that. Ever since I was a kid, I had to tell the bad things that had happened, so I could release them. Then they didn't hurt so bad.
The problem here is that they keep coming back as I hear something new and they hurt even worse because I love you so much.
It's like reading another review today, a positive one for JW4. The person said it was meant to be enjoyed in the theater with other Wick fans, and, oh gosh, I'm on the verge of crying again, because I waited for that film for so long, Keanu. I was writing here and waiting, possibly more than even that guy or anyone else in any theater but, now that it is finally out, I can't go see it.
And it hurts.
I wish it didn't.
But it doesn't mean I don't love you. If I didn't love you it wouldn't hurt. That's the rub right there. A rub of salt on an open wound.
And I am truly sorry if I ever hurt you in return, Keanu. I don't know if you can forgive me. But you have my honest apology anyway for what it's worth.
Sigh.
Not that you are here to hear it.
But, in any case, I did draw this for today.
You and the Brother from Another Planet.
That's what Tara and I call Joe Morton whenever we see him. I picked up the DVD for a dollar one Christmas at Giant Tiger. It wasn't very good quality at all and had been poorly framed. We'd picked up a Suspiria once from the same company. Guillotine films I think. The filmmakers would cry out for the guillotine if they ever saw what was done to their films.
I hope they never release any John Wick film, even the 4th one.
I had to draw you with the Brother.
What was it like working with him? He's a good actor and only today, when Tara saw the last search in the search bar on our phone, did she even realize "Mac" was the Brother.
However, both she and I preferred David Strathairn and John Sayles, himself, in that movie. They were just cooler.
That's a sad thing in today's entertainment industry. I'm afraid that because most "diverse" actors are hired indiversely (yeah, that ain't a word) to only primarily be good guys they are missing out on good roles.
I'll probably also get in trouble for this, but no offense is honestly meant, but today's industry also ruined my Wally/Maddie on School Spirits, I'm afraid. When I saw whom played Maddie's best friend, whom is in love with her, I knew it was doomed. Sigh. But I did hold out hope. But it's just going to go the one way.
I hate that stories are so paint by numbers these days. It eliminates surprise: you can tell just where they are going. It's like the Hays code where Evil had to inexorably be punished.
So I don't have much hope for my Wally and Maddie.
But I guess, at least, they didn't make him into a bad guy, like I was afraid. They chose another white dude instead, since he was older and thus, I suppose, more patriarchal.
Keanu, if you ever film a Speed 3, and hopefully Joe here could be in it, get Milo Manheim to play Jack and Annie's cop son. Do that. It would be a hit wagering from the amount of girls in love with him over at Twitter, just like I predicted. For good measure get Jason Patric too. It would be funny if Annie had gone back to Jack but Jack and Alex were forced to work together and they hated one another.
Some good barbs could probably be given.
Especially about that boat.
I don't think I'll ever get to see that film made, although I would be looking forward to it.
I am looking forward to watching The Continental. It will be nice seeing Charon back. And I can hope for a glimpse of a young John Wick. Although I call out dibs on giving the young Jardani a hug, he could never beat you, my dearest friend.
Oh, I want to see you as John again!
Guess I'll get to in Ballerina, although female assassin films aren't really my thing.
But I did realize something about the title.
Ballerina.
Ball-erin-a
My name is in there!
And you can make an anagram from it
Ball a Erin.
Hagakure might have gone missing but Ballerina has been there for a while now.
Maybe it was God trying to send you a message, Keanu Reeves.

All my love forever,
Your
Erin
