Chapter Text

Out. I need out.

That man. I need him.

You go back to the lab calmly, as if you were going into cryo like a good soldier. Your guns still where you left them.

“Get in the chamber.” The man in charge ordered you in Russian. You don’t feel the pull to obey him.

Walking towards the cryo chamber, walking past several lab techs, and as soon as you are close enough to your guns you snatch them and begin shooting.

Within 3 seconds you have shot twice as many people. The soundproof room not alerting anybody outside as to what is happening. 5 more people to take down, only 2 of which have guns.

One technician tries to go for the security protocol button. You run to grab his wrist, bringing your knee up to his elbow. His arm bent backwards, sending him to the ground cradling it. You use the opportunity to shoot him in the back of the head since he was foolish enough to turn his back to you.

Grabbing another person and using her a body shield as you shoot down the other 3. Two head shots and the third in the heart. They shot her 2 times in the shoulder 3 in the abdomen and another four in her chest, before they dropped dead. Dropping her you go back to the first lab tech.

Another shot and every obstacle in the room is dead.

It wasn’t that hard getting through the compound. You were once agin covered in blood. It seemed as though you still haven’t changed from your mission. Thank god for A.I.M. using identical armor for every mission.

You act as though you had another order, and everyone avoided you like the plague. They know that if they get in your way, or are in any way delaying you from completing your task; they’re dead.

Out. I need to find him. Through the last door, you are met with a familiar sight. The docks. The first thing you saw this last mission.

***

Civilian clothes never felt right, but you can’t be wearing your uniform or you would be caught quick. You were able to find the man again in a fair amount of time.

You went to a library to track him. Not buying any of your own gadgets, knowing they would be easily traceable. Even burners. The security footage wasn’t in very good quality, but you managed.

James Buchanan Barnes. Avenger. Sergeant of WWII. Previously a Hydra Weapon.

More or less you had the same circumstances, except there was no reason for you to know each other. You were in different branches. But why did you feel this connection with him? Why did you want to protect him?

New York was the place to go. You stole the least inconspicuous car you could find. A yellow Volkswagen Bug. Every third or fourth town you passed you would stop and get a new car.

Every state you would double back a few towns, making absolutely sure that you were not followed. This however, added time onto your trip and time isn’t something you can easily afford. Take too long and you’ll be back in A.I.M. hands.

You didn’t stop unless you absolutely needed to, for food, gas, or sleep. No exceptions.

The trip from the West coast to the East took 9 days and 7 hours. You barely slept, not that it bothered you much. You didn’t trust any spot to sleep more than the required hour or two. Sleeping in underpasses and deep into any forest or nation park you came across.

***

It was 10:12 a.m. Avengers compound is within your sights. By your estimation it is about 0.7 miles away. Infiltrating will make you seem guilty, but you don’t know of what. Deciding that’s your best option is to walk in and surrender. But you still changed back into your armor, in case this went sideways and they still wouldn’t hear from you.

You tried to tear off the Hydra over your heart, but you couldn’t. Only succeeding in cutting through it, it was obvious you were trying to take it off but you can still recognize what it was.

Scanning the building you see no obvious guards outside. You can’t see any sort of security system outside the building. This kind of technology must be very advanced, because they must have some sort of way to track you as you make the walk towards the building.

You reach sidewalk, obviously as some path to run around the perimeter. Possibly train. You have to hold your arms up from now on, you never know if they’re watching you right now. Now approaching at 200 meters.

100 meters.

50 meters.

10 meters.

5 feet.

5 men step out of the front doors. You stop, keeping your arms raised as they point their handguns at you.

“State your business ma’am.”

You slowly take one small step back, just enough to be able to bend down to get to your knees, “I need James Buchanan Barnes.”

“We can’t do that ma’am.” They slowly begin approaching. Prepping their handcuffs.

“I need Sergeant James Barnes.” You were quickly becoming agitated. You were starting to think that they’re just going to arrest you and not let you see him at all. You should have just broke in.

“That is not up to us ma’am.” 4 still have their guns trained on you while the fifth went behind you, cuffing your hands behind your back. He helped you to stand and back pulling you towards the entrance.

“Escort her to prisoner cell D,” you felt the first mans hands leave you and another’s take his place. “I’ll inform the captain of the situation. You two, come with me.”

“No. James Barnes.” You try to turn to look at him. “I want James Barnes.”

He looked at you for less than a second and goes off, not saying a word. He doesn’t look to be in a good mood.

The elevator ride to the prisoner cells was short, but you wouldn’t be able to tell how far underground you went. With Stark Technology it could be hundreds of feet.

The cells weren’t what you were expecting. Clean beds, clean white walls, glass entrances, a desk and chair, and a closed off restroom. Quite spacious too. Bigger than any room you were given before.

Clearly marked over the doors were letters. They unbuckled your utility belt, searched you for other weapons and patted you down thoroughly. Afterwards you were pushed into cell D as promised. You look back at the two officers, but they had already left. The door locked and is no doubt sturdy enough to hold the Hulk

You take off the bulletproof breast plate and toss it in the corner. Not wanting it on any longer. You no longer wanted any association with Hydra, A.I.M., or D.O.A. Now you’re only left in a white tank top your combat pants. You take off your boots, the laces already loosened from their search. You sit on the bed and lean against the wall so your facing the door. Not trusting them not to just come in here and beat you.

Your exhaustion takes over however, the unexplainable feeling of being somewhat safe eases you into slumber. Maybe it’s the fact that A.I.M. can’t get you back.

You’re never going to be in the chair again. No matter what.

***

You wake up from the sound of your cell door opening. A loud noise blaring, announcing the arrival of Captain America and The Winter Soldier.

Steve Rogers sits down at the desk, but before he could ask anything Bucky gasps lightly.

“Pooh?” He asked, sounding as if the air had been sucked out of his lungs.

“Who?”
