Work Text:

Skizz felt awful.

Physically and emotionally. He just felt drained. Not that he could let that show though, Impulse was with him and making his buddy deal with his stupid emotions, ruining the cheerful mood his homie was in, would just make him feel guiltier. GOSH HOW DID IMPULSE STAND HIM! He was the reason they were in this situation, cold, batered and hungry in the middle of a thunderstorm that just WOULDN'T STOP! Seriously, not even dried kelp worked. And they were only on one-and-a-half hearts. All thanks to Skizz. It couldn't get worse.

Well maybe it could, if dipple-dop wasn't here and sharing hearts with him, Skizz would of stood on top of a lightning rod by now. And that would of left him bed ridden for day, complaining to Impulse over call Probably annoying him even more cause how good of a friend am I making Impulse take time away from Hermitcraft just to deal with me being a BIG OL BABY . Skizz knew he should probably be concerned about that train of thought but found that he simply didn't have enough energy to do anything productive about it. Sighing deeply, Skizz turned over on the beds to face Impulse, who was sat up defiantly glaring at the sky with all the conviction of a pouting baby. It was absolutely adorable and normally Skizz would of teased him for it. Now was not normally, and Impulse seemed to catch on to the fact something was wrong far too quickly. The wonderful perks of being friends for 20 years, you can't hide anything.

"Skizz?"..."SKIZZ!?"

Skizz hadn't even realised that he had started to shake slightly during his zoning out session. Gosh this was worse than he thought.

Looking up at Impulse, the guilt increased tenfold, almost sending him immediately into tears at the worried look on Impys face. "You okay dude? Your looking kinda rough there-minus the bandages of course, don't try and change the subject to that, you know what I mean." Skizz very much knew what he meant, he just really didn't want Impulse to worry about him. Skizz has already put him through enough today anyway. So instead of verbally answering and subsequently lying Skizz simply nodded his head and flashed his best impression of a smile , one he hoped didn't betray his emotions to his friend. Of course though, luck was never on his side and Impulse saw right through his poorly crafted disguise. "Hey, talk to me goose, what's going through that head of yours?"

"Nothing" A giant, obvious lie.

A lie that earned him a pointed look from Impulse. "Also, aren't you supposed to be goose why are we switching roles?"

Another pointed look.

A long, suffering sigh.

"Listen I just feel- bad- I guess." Impulse stayed silent, not forcing him to alaborate immediately "I mean I've lost practically all of our hearts this season and- shorely your mad right? I've dragged you away from your cool projects just to almost hardcore kill us and leave you in pain, all cold and wet underneath a shody cobblestone shelter."

Silence.

"Skizz. Look at me. You don't actually think I'd be... mad at you, do you? You're my best friend I'm not going to get mad at you just cause you lost some hearts, plus that creeper explosion was my fault, I'm the one who made the trap, I should of checked it beforehand, that's my bad." Impulse stressed, his face lined with concern.

"The drowning, the drowns, the phantoms"

"Accidents that could of happened to anyone Skizz. You're not to blame for any of this"

Impulse seemed so convinced Skizz almost believed him , but a traitorous part of his mind still spoke of quilt. Which is exactly when Impulse did the unexpected. He hugged him, on purpose, willingly. In fact, not only was he hugging him, he was squeezing him so tight Skizz was convinced that he was trying to juice him of negatitivity. "You are not to blamed for anything that happened, this world is for fun so what if you get hurt, I don't care as long as I'm hanging out with my friend. There is no place I'd rather be than here. You hear me."

Skizz did in fact not hear him for he was too busy weeping his eyeballs out. Direclty onto Impulses shirt, which in all honestly was far too big on him meaning it was likely Skizzs, but nonetheless, he got the reaction he wanted. Complaining, wining Impulse. And oh it was delicious.

And so with a wining Impulse and a much lighter heart Skizz let himself laugh until he couldn't breathe anymore and that night he fell asleep knowing he was loved and that would never change.
