Clean Up In Aisle 9

Chapter 8

Notes:

Shorter chapter than normal but wanted to get it out. Bit of a cliff hanger.

Chapter Text

The previous evening Roger and John had made a slow walk home for two reasons. Roger was a bit drunk and they were both putting off going home and possibly not being alone. Neither voiced this. How could they? Both were unsure of how the other one felt. Roger was possibly not anywhere near as drunk as he made out but it intrigued him the way John had taken charge of the evening and Roger just let himself feel vulnerable for a change.

"Lets stop and have a smoke." John motioned with his head towards a bench by a bus stop and Roger nodded and reached for his cigarettes.
"Good idea." He giggled and then slapped his hand over his mouth but John pretended he hadn't heard him. The brunette was polite but there was something else about him that the blond was attracted to more and more.

There was a few moments of silence between them but John felt it was probably the wrong time to confess to Roger. They were both a little drunk and he could feels the sparks between them as if they were live electricity. He looked at Roger to see if he was feeling the same but the blue eyes were hooded and he didn't want to overstep and wreck the moment. John shook back his hair and looked up at the sky.

"Probably going to rain." He said softly and put a gentle hand on Roger's arm. "Tired?" He asked and waited.

"Sort of." Roger slid his blue eyes over to John and smiled. "Lets get home."  He lay his head briefly on John's shoulder before getting up and swaying a little.

"Hey, be careful." John took his arm but didn't move. Moving meant going back to the flat and the looming presence of the brown envelope in his desk drawer, He had put it away? He had this fear he'd left it on his bed but then who would see it? Freddie already knew about it and Roger was with him. Brian would hardly go into his room, right?

Freddie was hoping John had already spoken to Roger but he couldn't be sure. Brian was talking about something but Freddie couldn't concentrate so he just nodded and smiled. He was wondering if he had done the right thing. Roger had finally seemed really happy and it was because of John. That had surprised the singer ad he had never suspected his friend leaned that way and he should know, after all.

"When's Rog back?' Brian's voice broke into his thoughts.

"Just popped out for a drink with John. Soon, I guess." Freddie was wondering himself when they would be back. Did it matter? Roger needed to relax after working both at the store and going to Uni. It was a big load for anyone.

"I can't wait around." Brian admitted that his visit wasn't to see Fred but that would give his feelings away and besides that Roger had definitely made it clear that he wasn't interested and that the kiss had been a one off.

"Can I give him a message?" Freddie asked as they walked to the door and saw Brian hesitate before shaking his head no. It suddenly hit Freddie that maybe there was more to all this? Brian just looked so lost and that was unusual.

Freddie went to the window a minute after Brian had left to see John and Roger coming around the corner. They arms were looped together and he chuckled to himself before closing the curtain and making himself comfortable on the couch in front of the television.

John had been surprised to see Freddie and felt a little bit guilty because he had promised that he would confess to Roger and he hadn't. But Freddie seemed to be giving him a pass on that tonight which meant tomorrow he had to own up or probably leave for good. Thankfully, Freddie seemed more engrossed in the TV program and hardly glanced at the two younger men.

"Had a good time?" He asked over his shoulder and smiled to himself. He wasn't going to spoil the evening for them. Roger had looked less stressed the last few days and John didn't need to confess all this evening. But he would tomorrow.

"Yes, good time." Roger nodded and hiccuped and clamped his hand over his mouth before leaning against the back if the couch and closing his eyes as if going to sleep.

"Coffee darlings." Freddie jumped up and gave John a stern look as if asking how did he let this happen. John shrugged and moved just in time to catch Roger from flipping over the couch.

"You flirting with me?" Roger allowed himself to be led over to the couch and sat down with a plonk and pulled John down with him.

"Behave children!" Freddie called from the kitchen and Roger put a finger to his lips and batted his eye lashes at John who was now totally confused but liked it.

"I don't want to wake up. No coffee, Fred!" Roger called out in a falsetto and John screwed up his eyes.

"Rog, shush yeah." John rashly took hold of the blonds hand and held it against his mouth but he did that just as Freddie came back into the room and there was an awkward silence.

"Oops." Roger  whispered.

"Stay in my room?" Roger whispered once he and John were at their respective doors after drinking their coffee and saying goodnight to Freddie.

"Are you sure?" John felt more sober than Roger looked and he didn't want to take advantage of the situation even though his entire body wanted him to but Freddie was just next door.

"Yes." Roger nodded and took hold of the brunettes hand and pulled him into his room. He felt a bit reckless and wanted John to know how he felt about him.

John nodded and allowed himself to be pulled into Roger's room and the door and shut behind him. He felt his heart beat increasing as he wrapped his arms around the blond and kissed him. It wasn't the first time he'd kissed another bloke but it was the best kiss because he had been anticipating it so much.

"Want this so much." Roger's voice was raspy as he unbuttoned the brunettes shirt and kiss the bare shoulders. They had managed to fall back on the bed in a passion of kisses and searching hands but when John had to take a break to go to the bathroom he returned to find a half clothed blond fast asleep with one leg on the bed and the other foot touching the floor.

John chuckled as shrugged but undressed to his underpants and pulled off Roger's jeans before pulling the covers over them both. His obvious hard on had gone and was replaced by his affection for the other boy that was so far beyond anything he had ever felt for anyone before. He eventually fell asleep and didn't wake till he heard Freddie's voice the next morning.

"John? There's a couple of police officers here to see you." Freddie was only half surprised to see John in Roger's bed but more surprised to see two plain clothes detectives at his door.

Roger struggled to sit up and stared at John who was still half asleep. "John, wake up."

Freddie repeated what he'd said and threw John's discarded jeans at him.

Roger and Freddie had given John his privacy and kept themselves in Roger's bedroom till they heard the flat door open and close. They both went out into the living room, pleased that John was still there but they had no idea what the police would want to see him about.

"John?" Roger slid his arm around the brunettes shoulders and squeezed them. John turned a tear stain face to them and burst into sobs.

"My father was killed yesterday. They think it was murder."  He gulped and cried on Roger's shoulder.
