What to Eat?

Summary:

Hux comes home to discover how his Eldritch Horror boyfriend and his new kitten are getting along, after Kylo voiced concerns about Millie's appetite. Namely, for Eldritch Horror.

Notes:

For the wonderful @fhallbera, who has the best ideas and asks the ultimate questions:

'"Are you sure she won't kill and eat me," eldritch horror Kylo asks Hux, worried, when kitten Millicent starts stalking and pouncing at his tendrils.

As this tweet was inspired by the video my sibling sent of their new kitten zooming across the floor after toys while their old cat sat in his Cardboard Box of Safety, would eldritch horror Kylo also retreat to sit in a box when Millie becomes too terrifying?'

Work Text:

Hux closed the front door and dropped his keys in the bowl. He stood momentarily in the suspicious silence, wondering where everyone was. "Hello?" He called out.

"We're in here," Kylo's voice responded from the living room.

"We?" Hux walked through, spotting the box from his new refrigerator lying empty on the floor: no Millicent, no Kylo.

"Here," Kylo said again from the couch.

Kylo, his Eldritch Horror boyfriend, and Millie, his eight-week-old kitten, were curled together on the couch. Millie made a tiny orange lump on his lap while a few of his more curious tendrils poked at her gently.

Hux moved closer, inspecting the pair. "I thought you were worried Millie was going to hunt you down and eat you," he said, mostly hiding the amusement in his voice.

"I was concerned," Kylo answered, raising an eyebrow as Millie stretched and yawned, showing off her razor-sharp claws and kitten teeth.

"What changed?" Hux asked, scratching her behind the ears. Her purr floated up between them.

"She was chasing a mouse earlier. Not a particularly large one," Kylo told him.

"Oh? How did that go?"

"She put up a good fight, didn't you, sweetie?" Kylo stroked her back, and the purring intensified. "But the mouse got the better of her. Had her backed up into the corner."

"Ah," Hux nodded, giving her a quick check for injuries. Satisfied the little one was unharmed, he settled himself on the couch with them. Kylo's tentacles reached out to stroke against his leg. "She didn't seem so scary then, I suppose?" Hux asked, still attempting to hide his smile.

"No," Kylo admitted. "I finally had to come out of my box to rescue her." He motioned to his usual hiding place, the refrigerator box, when Millie got the zoomies or Hux got out the laser pointer. "Then," he added, "I had to use the treats, the chicken ones, not the yummy tuna ones, to coax her out from under the couch."

Hux bought several different flavors of kitten treats. Millicent's favorite was the chicken. The tuna was mostly for Kylo.

Hux smiled fully and ran a finger over one of the tentacles. Kylo shivered. "That was very sweet of you." Suddenly, Hux sat up and looked around. "What happened to the mouse?"

Kylo snuggled closer, pulling Hux back and leaning his head on Hux's shoulder. He cradled the sleepy kitten. "I ate it."
