Summary:

Update: I think you can see where this is going by looking at the "This work is a part of a series"

Uzi has develop some feelings for her best friend N, these feelings are sadly one sided as his eyes are on his teammate V. Through Uzi's support, N builds the confidence to ask V out, who accepts.

N cannot believe his eyes, he was on a date with V!

Uzi cannot believe her eyes, as the darkness within her grows...

(Inspired by the song: "My Eyes" from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog)

Notes:

Thank you all for the support and love on my first Murder Drones oneshot "Envious." I got a lot of hits and kudos in a short amount of time so I'm grateful and ready to give y'all another oneshot. I have been working on a full fanfic that's less ship heavy and hope everyone will enjoy it!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a calm night on Copper-9, the decaying rubble at a standstill and toxic death storms at a minimum. It was the perfect night for N to get some feelings off his chest. He wanted to do this for a long time, but N needed some pep talk from someone who cares about him.

"Uzi, I wanted to talk to you about something... Something important to me." N said, entering the pod. The purple worker looked at him.

"Oh? What is it?" Uzi asked.

"Well... There is someone I like... And I want to confess to them."

Uzi immediately thought of V. N was obsessed with her since the beginning. However, what if it wasn't? What if N was going to confess to her? No, Uzi, that's dumb. Someone like N wouldn't fall over heels for an edgy worker drone, right? N and V have gained some tension between them, maybe...

"Just be honest with yourself, and honest to them. No need to sugarcoat anything." Uzi said with a smile, trying to be an optimist.

"But what if I mess up and-"

"So? Just be yourself. I know you struggle with your self-worth, but you mean so much to me N." Uzi said with a slight blush. "More than you'd think..." She muttered under her breath.

N smiled, thankful he had someone like Uzi.

"Thanks, Uz."

Before Uzi could reply, N went to see V. Uzi's heart began to sink with every step N took toward V.

"H-Hey V!" N said, keeping calm.

"Oh, hey N, need something?"

"Well umm... You see... I... I like you."

"Um, thanks? I think you're cool too," V said, then muttered: "a little bit of an idiot."

"W-Well... V." N took a deep breath, trying to keep his composure. "Would you like to go on a date with me?"

V's virtual eyes widened, and a yellow tint covered her screen. "W-What?" Then the proper realization of what N meant hit her.

"OH." V looked around and saw Uzi at the entrance of the pod. V gave a smug smile. "I would like that, N."

Uzi just stared at N and V talking, the yellow tint on N’s screen. Uzi went inside the spaceship to face the mirror she shattered weeks ago. She found another mirror, she brought it there earlier, but it met the same fate as the others. Her attention was now on a drawing N drew for her, with “best friends” written at the top. It honestly hurt her. Uzi couldn’t dwell on feelings though. She had work to do. A ship to fix, humans to kill… But N… With V.

N and V flew around the area. N couldn't help but admire V's splendor in the light of the planets that Copper-9 Orbited. She was gorgeous. He couldn't believe he was on a date with V! Right now they were just flying to have some fun, but later they would share some oil rations N saved up for this special occasion. V looked stunning as ever. Her silhouette was that of an angel. N could help but smile, and when V's eyes met his, she smiled as well. The two didn't notice a purple worker stalking them from the ground, glaring daggers at the female disassembly drone. V was nothing but a nuisance to Uzi, bickering with anyone and everyone. How does N deal with that psychopath? Why did N LOVE that psychopath!? All V did was insult him and forget about N's existence.

"Out of everyone, N chose her," Uzi muttered with venom in her voice. "Well, I guess it was only between her, J, and.." Uzi's face lit purple. She thought if she was on a date with N instead of V. Uzi couldn't fly, but that meant N could carry her as they traveled the planet. Uzi's blush grew, and she quickly hid as N and V landed.

"Man, I needed to stretch my wings," V said, stretching.

"You looked gorgeous, V," N said. Immediately, his screen turned yellow when he met V's eyes.

"I-I mean you always look gorgeous!- I mean!- Umm... I think you're pretty great Not pretty great, you're very great!-"

"N," V laughed, "just stop talking."

N looked down and then felt V's hand on his shoulder.

"Where to next?"

N smiled and took V to a more destroyed part of the abandoned city, Uzi followed from a distance. They entered a closed-off room in one of the buildings, revealing some worker corpses.

"Have you been holding out on us?" V accused, earning a nervous laugh from N.

"I was just saving up, in case of emergencies!" N defended himself. The two sat down around a small pile of corpses, and they began to devour their meal.

Uzi watched through a crack, heavily disturbed by the two eating the corpses of her kind. But she was more focused on how happy the two looked. The murder drones had some small talk between meals, telling stories of things that happened during their time under J's management. V remarked how the company talked down to J once, and it just wrecked her week. N remembers it because she took it out on him. Whenever N mentioned his interactions with J, V had a hint of pity for him on her face. She knew he could take a physical beating, but not a mental one. After they drained the dead workers of all their succulent oil, V was the first to speak.

"It was nice spending time with you, N."

"Oh- Thank you so much for agreeing to go on this date with me."

"I'm sorry I didn't spend more time with you before the J dying situation. You're a good guy."

N couldn't help but smile as he blushed, and V couldn't help but close the gap between their faces.

Uzi saw this. She felt so... Broken. Something inside her snapped. The absolute solver symbol covered her face, and the pile of dead workers exploded right next to N and V in a purple light.
