Summer was much more fast approaching than Ezra or Benoit had thought it would be. Almost a year into their relationship, moments weren’t as fleeting as they were then. But Summer meant Elle would invite her friends over more and more often. Unfortunately for Ezra, half of Elle’s friends had a crush on him. Crushes that weren’t as discreet as they had thought. They would try to come over as often as they could, in between classes if Elle was home so as to not raise too much suspicion.
“So my friends are coming over, dads!” Elle said as she ran down the stairs, a black and red swimsuit on as well as some shorts to cover her bottom half. “It’s finally warm and I’m the only one out of our friend group who has their own pool.” She explained, adjusting her sunglasses so they sat on her nose to cover eyes.
Benoit and Ezra looked at each other before they trained their eyes back on the young woman in front of them. Their reactions differed. Benoit seemed happy just to be able to meet Elle’s friends for the first time, he was always at the office or busy with Ezra when they were at the house. Ezra had a more… negative reaction. But these people were Elle’s friends so there wasn’t much he could do about it. Perhaps that’s why Elle decided to tell them about these plans at the last minute.
Then the doorbell rang. They were here.
“Darlin’, it’ll be fun don’t you think?” Benoit asked, looking through the window to see Elle and her friends. He thought they might as well enjoy the sun too. “I mean, they’re kids. They can’t be that bad. And you’re fairly good at acting like you’re not paying attention.” He turned to Ezra, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Ezra couldn’t refuse Benoit, even if he tried his hardest. The detective usually got his way. So the pair got dressed in their pool clothes. Ezra put on a deep green, short pair of swim trunks that stopped a little above his mid-thigh that showed off the tattoos on his legs and a black short-sleeved button up. He cursed at himself for having whore-ish bathing suits. Benoit wore something very similar to last year, a striped yellow and white outfit with a blue bandana. He was the type to have the same article of clothing but just in multiple different colors.
The pair made their way outside, Elle and her friends were all sitting by the pool. Some of them even were sitting at the edge with the water up to their knees. They purposefully sat across from the teens, Ezra dropping his sunglasses over his eyes as he let the sun soak into his skin. Benoit simply sat on the pool chair, facing Ezra to talk with him or distract him a little. Although, seeing Ezra a quarter shirtless was tempting. Throughout the rest of the year, he usually wore long-sleeves. Now, Benoit could see the muscle he covered as well as the soft pillow that was his chest. No wonder Elle liked to cuddle up to Ezra far more than himself.
“Do you think Mr. Wayne would give me a chance?” Ava, one of the three friends Elle invited to her house, asked as she looked over at the tall man. “I mean, sure, there’s that one interview where he said he was in a relationship but like… he could have lied.” She shrugged. Ava had long, deep auburn hair and blue eyes complimented by a nice figure and a string-like bikini. She was pretty, just not the right age or the right gender.
Elle let out a light laugh, keeping her mouth shut. Her friends were very talkative and if they knew the truth, it would probably be a headline in tomorrow's newspaper.
Grayson, another friend, rolled his eyes. “Ezra is gay, idiot. If he was gonna go for anyone, it would be me.” He smirked. He had short blond hair and blue eyes, a twink if Ezra had any say in it. He was wearing an almost-speedo too.
“I really don’t understand either of you.” Harper sighed, taking a sip of her pink lemonade. She was the only one who didn’t have a crush on Ezra, consequently making her his favorite. Harper had short light brown hair and brown eyes. She and Grayson were the two with their feet in the pool.
Ava shrugged with a laugh, “He’s hot!”
“And he’s also my dad.” Elle pointed out with a shake of her head.
“We can appreciate him from far away.” Ava countered.
Grayson chuckled, “Speak for yourself. I’m gonna appreciate him from up close.” He winked, leaning back a little to rest his head in between Elle’s feet.
Harper shook her head as she glanced over at Ezra and Benoit. The pair were getting quite comfortable with each other. “Good luck with that.” She teased, motioning her glass to the two men. Grayson and Ava’s mouths dropped and Elle helped to pick them off the floor.
Ezra had pulled Benoit into his lap and pressed a kiss to his cheek with a wide smile on his lips. That was one way to get the teens off their scent. Well, that’s what they assumed. In reality, Benoit was starting to get irritated. The way Harper and Grayson were staring at Ezra like he was a piece of meat was unnerving. So Benoit sat in Ezra’s lap, pulling his arms around his waist as he got comfortable.
“Jealous?” Ezra teased in his ear once he realized what the detective was doing. It wasn’t as discreet as Benoit may have thought.
Benoit narrowed his eyes as a cheeky smirk graced his lips, “I haven’t a clue as to what you’re talking about, darlin’. Just getting comfortable.” It was his idea to be outside with the others. He just didn’t exactly think it through.
“Hmmm, sure.” Ezra chuckled. He had to be honest, he liked having Benoit on top of him. The weight was comfortable and wasn’t so horrible that he couldn’t stand it. He probably would have withstood it anyway.
From across the pool, Grayson pouted. “Sad he’s taken but… it’s nice to know he could pick me up like I weigh nothing.”
“Go away! I did not need to hear that!” Elle exclaimed, a laugh escaping her throat.
