Chapter Text

The train of thoughts ended abruptly, when a loud sound next to him felt the need to interrupt. "Mako Mako, come here! He's about to wake up." Korra's loud voice beamed. She immediately gave the younger a pounding headache. A great start of his new life

"Please give the patient some space." An angelic voice Bolin had never heard before rang in his ears. Even though he had only heard one sentence, he knew this woman spoke with dignity and truth. Smooth words and soft on the ears.

"He's waking up, he's moving again, he's alive." Mako sounded devastated. His speech was less smooth and more panicky than Bolin had ever heard him talk before. "I beg of you, let him be alive." He added: "I love him." The firebending alpha barely whispered, the words were low and raspy. No one but his brother heard Mako say those words out loud. Hell, even Bolin wasn't sure he was not hallucinating. The Mako he knew would never express his feelings this easily. He must still be hazy from this long sleep.

Where was he anyway? He forcefully opened his eyes, the white room with a couple of darker spots started to spin before his eyes. Bolin tried to push himself up, he felt the familiar nausea making his way to his belly. It rose to his midriff, his chest and landed onto his throat.

In a flash the omega sat up, leaning to the right side of the bed, as he had done many times before. There was no bucket, but he could hold it no longer. Acid gastric juices left him. It burned him, it hurt. There was nothing he could possibly throw up left in his stomach, but his muscles kept trying to push any form of nutrients out of his weakened body. He wanted to stop, the remaining parts of his body ached as well. His tortured ass in particular.

A cold hand slipped under his shirt, he shivered at the touch. Bolin instantly ignored what he was doing as primal instinct fogged his brain. Get away from it. No touch. Not a single person can touch. No touch. DON'T TOUCH. "DON'T TOUCH ME." He yelled. Mako recoiled and the hand left his body. Good.

The traumatized omega's skin was burning at the touch of someone other than his own. He felt like he was on fire, the ice cold fingers left him startled and in pain. It seemed like the touch was printed on his skin as if it was ironed hot on his back.

The nurse signaled for the two alphas in the room to leave. Korra and Mako were the only ones visiting the younger boy right now. Mako straight up refused. Not after his brother had rejected him so harshly. His heart aching, mind clouded with worry. Korra hesitantly obeyed, she was called by Tenzin about slacking off in her training. The avatar left the room, but not after giving Mako a pat on the shoulder.

These past few weeks both alphas had gotten to know each other a little better. Korra admitted she had eyes on the mysterious tall man for a couple of days. However when she learned his heart was with his brother, she had quickly moved on. It's not like they were serious anyway.

They actually had a lot in common, their firepower, their stubbornness and their will to always move forward. Even if that meant jumping head on in dangerous situations. They were both determined and complemented each other well. They had become great friends.

Before Korra left the room she looked back one more time. Mako was busy watching Bolin curl up and soft cries filled her ears.

The avatar locked eyes with the one she was really looking back for, the nurse. She was attractive to say the least. Dark locks falling on her shoulder and a stern expression made her look ten times more mysterious and cute. She seemed caring as well.

The door closed behind her. What was that ladies name again? Miss.... Sato?

Miss Sato was doing her utter best to calm the stressed omega. She rubbed her hands together to warm them up. This way a wave of energy would emerge from her hands. Bolin would feel a slight warmth, without actual touch. It was a gamble, getting so close to an omega who rejected touch just a minute ago, but it was worth a try.

"Come Bolin." The boy looked up when he heard her voice. She took the opportunity to surround his hands with hers, without touching the skin. Bolin tensed a little. She noticed his spine straightening, his shoulders rigid. "Stress isn't good for you and.." She swallowed her words, she did not want to drop a bomb this early on.

Maybe it was the fact that she was an omega as well, maybe she was transmitting the right calming pheromones. Maybe it was the fact she was a woman, and not a man that was harassing him. Maybe it was her kind words. Or perhaps her eyes, her eyes told Bolin she would never hurt him in any way. Her expression was pure, true.

His beating heart slowed its rushed pace. His pulse turned back to normal. His rapid breathing went back to its original rhythm.

"I'm Asami, I'll be your nurse." She took his hands, which he stretched out to her, and she helped him back onto the hospital bed. "I'll go get your breakfast, alright. Be right back!"

Bolin wanted to protest, to say he wasn't exactly in the mood for food. His stomach disagreed as it churned, urging for feeding. She giggled cutesy and left the room with another quick goodbye.

Back on the comfort of his pillows he could analyse the room carefully. It was mostly white, per usual in a hospital. On his nightstand were a few bouquets with the most colorful of flowers and a bunch of get well soon cards. To be expected since he was a professional pro-bender.

Someone in the corner of the room caught Bolins attention. "I'm sorry." The man said. The deep voice startled the omega, but not so much as before.

"It's alright Mako. Not your fault." It almost looked like Mako was blinking a tear away. "Just really thought I was back in the room again, you scared me bro." Bolin was opting to go for the tough act. In an attempt to save his ego, he felt embarrassed enough about breaking down in front of everyone.

"I scared you? We were terrified when we were notified of your kidnapping! We thought you were gone forever, dead." He took a deep breath. "Man, I just missed you so much." He wanted to add something sweet and loving, something that really showed his feelings. His love. Mako shook his head, it was too soon.

"I missed you too. I thought about you every day and every waking moment. You literally got me through this. I can't thank you enough." Bolin told him, exposing a tiny bit of his fragile heart.

Mako moved forward, he needed to feel for himself if his brother was alive. Bolin eyed him carefully, he felt his pulse in the vein on his neck quickening. "Stop."

The firebender came to a halt, confused and hurt. "I want you close too, I promise you. But I somehow can't right now." A warm tear rolled down his cheek. "I want to hug you so bad, I'm afraid Mako. Please just promise me you won't leave me."

Damn, this whole situation must've drained his energy too much. He must be too tired to keep his emotions in check properly.

Mako took a few steps back and sat back down on a chair. "I'll give you as much time as you need, little bro. Rest assured, you'll never ever get rid of me."

Relieved Bolin rested his head back on the pillows. "What did the nurses have to say 'bout any injuries? Also, do you know how long we have to be here?"

"I believe I can answer those questions." Miss Sato said. She had sneaked into the room quietly while Bo was staring at the ceiling. The young man had tilted his head in her direction. "Yes please inform me."

Mako looked just as expectant as he did, he must not have known as well.

"The bruises are minor injuries, you've got some trauma to the rectal area and a lightly sprained ankle. You'll be up and walking in a matter of days. That's not what we are worried about. Please do not react to this badly: Bolin, we believe you are around 9 weeks pregnant."
