Chapter Text

Eclipse got to you first. Sun and Moon had rushed to kiss you so fast that their heads slammed together and fell back onto the floor. Eclipse took advantage of that and leaned forward, his chest purring as he put a finger under your chin and lifted it up. "Songbird~" He sang, "May I~?"

You barely got a yes out before his lips were on yours, soft and gentle. You could hear his purr increase, along with the quiet grumbles of Sun and Moon on the floor.

~Months Later~

"You are going to do great, Songbird!"

"I'm so nervous." You panicked, trying to adjust the feathered wristlet you were wearing.

"Don't be. We've already checked everything. It will be fine." Moon soothed you, his hands moving to your shoulders and gently massaging them. You leaned back a little against him, trying to catch your breath.

"But what if the fire doesn't start, or it spontaneously rains? It could ruin the whole thing! This only happens once every fifty-two years!"

Eclipse hummed behind you, nuzzling his face against yours, "Then you just need to get it right the next time."

"The next time?! Do you think I'm going to be alive for that?! That's in fifty-two years!" You nearly shouted, your nerves starting to get the better of you. Eclipse leaned down and grabbed you by the chin, lifting it up to face him. His gold eyes were focused, almost demanding your attention.

"Songbird."

"Y-yea."

"Listen to me."

"Yea?"

"You will do fine."

You groaned slightly, watching a slow grin form on his face, "You are good at following directions. You just need to follow them again."

You were confused for a moment before he looked at you with that gaze he only gave when he was about to gobble you up. Your face flushed, trying not to think about it. He chuckled, knowing that he had gotten to you.

Sun tutted and pulled you away, his hands placing a feathered headpiece on your head. It was a beautiful piece used solely for the fire ceremony, and it had been worn by hundreds of priests and priestesses before you. Plumes of red, orange, yellow, and white feathers framed your face. The wristlets and anklets matched it, making you look like a living fire.

When satisfied with his placement, he looked at you and smiled, pulling you in to kiss the top of your forehead. "You will do great, Songbird. We will be right next to you."

You sighed and nodded, moving to face the temple's front door. Moon opened it for you, and Eclipse and Sun helped to walk you out. You looked down the stairs and took a big breath before starting your descent. The entire village was already waiting. The four men who would carry your fire already had their torches ready for you to light the flame.

It took you half an hour to get down those damn temple stairs. When you finally did, your Abuela greeted you, "You walk too slow."

"Hi, Abuela."

"Come here. You need to eat."

"Okay, thank you."

She fussed over you for a moment, feeding you a few tortillas she had before letting you go. You sighed and adjusted your wristlets again.

"Do you have everything, Mija?" She asked quietly.

You nodded, and she tutted softly and wrapped your arm around hers, walking you to the pedestal where you would perform the ceremony. You took a deep breath, looking back to the temple where your loves hid. You could just make them out, a small smile coming on your lips. You stepped onto the pedestal. The elders gave a few words as you set up your items. You'd practiced this a thousand times, with all three of your gods showing you how to do it and inputting little tricks to help you. For weeks you had been sitting on the roof, becoming familiar with the shape of the drill and the tree logs. You would spin the drill between your hands to start a fire, causing some rough callouses over the weeks that you weren't particularly fond of. It helped that every time you managed to start a fire, each of them would reward you in a different way. Sun would jump on you like an excited puppy, his rays spinning in delight. Moon would give you a soft smile and the sweetest kiss. And Eclipse, well, he would trail his fingers down to your hips and-

"THE PRIESTESS!" The elders called, snapping you out of your memories. It was time to start. You took a deep breath and grabbed the drill. The drill was a long wooden dowel with engravings on it that spelled out the story of how the gods gave the humans fire. It was a beautiful relief that you set into a tree log and began twisting. You twisted faster and faster, your arms beginning to burn. Sweat started to build up when you say the first spark, then another, then another. You drilled faster, the wood dowel moving quickly in your hands. Within minutes you had a small flame, something you quickly put reeds around. They caught fire, growing enough for you to add logs and step back. The flame took a few minutes, but it soon turned to a roaring fire, your face lighting up in relief and pride. Your Abuela had the same look on her face, so incredibly proud of you. The four men came forward and lit their torches, quickly running into town and lighting every fire pit and oven. Soon, the starry night was again not alone, a flame of fifty-two years filling up the sky.

You almost collapsed in relief as the festivities began, but not before something caught your eye. In the stars, high up, they moved. The entire city watched as the stars shifted, twinkling into the form of the Sun, the Moon, and a human, you. You watched as the stars rearranged themselves, showing that you were bowing to the celestial bodies and that the Sun and Moon bowed back to you. It then shifted to show a snake, Eclipse, and you could hear the gasps in the crowd. They watched, more than a few in terror, as the starry version of you placated the massive snake, your celestial forms bowing to each other. You heard the collective gasps of the city as the three gods surrounded your starry body, making it into something new.

They were telling their story in the stars. That you had 'tamed' all three gods. It was a message to the people that the years of death had ended, that you were someone special, and that you were given status. Your jaw dropped as you watched your celestial body shine in the sky, now a new constellation. They had gifted you a permanent place in the heavens with them.

The city erupted in celebration, alcohol drowning the streets as food was passed all around. You watched as everyone celebrated, finding your Abuela staring at the starry sky, tears flowing down her cheeks. You walked over quickly, and she pulled you into a tight hug. She didn't say anything for a moment, nor did you, just hugging her back as tightly as you could.

"I want great-grandchildren." She said, making your face bloom red.

"Abuela!" You said, panicking. She pulled away from the hug and grabbed your face, pulling you down to her height.

"I want great-grandchildren."

You couldn't say no to her, nodding slowly, knowing your face was on fire. She kissed you on the forehead and then shooed you to the temple, telling you to hurry up. Your face burned as you walked to the secret door in the back, making your way back inside the temple. You were greeted with your loves, your heart soaring. All three of them looked very handsome in their ceremony attire. Sun and Moon's feathered pieces were bright and fluffy, while Eclipse wore actual clothes for once. All three walked over and scooped you up, planting kisses on your lips and praising you.

"You did amazing, Songbird!" Sun's rays spun. You gushed, the smile bursting from your face.

"We knew you could do it," Moon hummed. Eclipse just looked at you, a knowing smile on his face like everything had played out exactly how he told you it would happen. You grumbled a bit and then kissed him, letting all of them love on you for a few moments.

"So about that star show..." You hummed. A red blush bloomed on Sun and Moon's cheeks as Eclipse moved his hands around your waist and bent down to nuzzle his face into your neck.

"You are our Songbird. It only makes sense for you to have a place with us in the sky." Eclipse hummed.

"Oh, yea?"

He nodded, running his tongue up your neck and making you squeak, "As a goddess, you need a symbol."

"As a what?"

Eclipse chuckled, planting a kiss on your neck. Sun and Moon sprung into action, wanting kisses of their own. You grabbed Sun, knowing he was the one who was terrible with secrets.

"What's this goddess talk about?" You asked, watching as he melted in your palms.

"W-We thought you might wa-want to be with us forever, and we could make you into a god like us." He said, his blue eyes nervous. You looked at Moon for confirmation, only to see him looking anywhere but you.

"How would that even work?" You asked, genuinely confused, "Can humans turn into gods?"

Eclipse gently squeezed your waist, "I have my ways~."

"What would I even be a goddess of?"

All three looked at you, completely serious, "Love."

You ran down the hall, your feet slapping against the dirt floors. "GET BACK HERE!"

You heard the cutest but most mischievous giggles in existence as they ran down the corridors. Four arms scooped them up, entangling them in a web of limbs as four more joined the party. You bent down and huffed, your new celestial body still not used to running.

"Are you two being naughty?" You heard Sun say.

Another giggle, "Nooooooo."

"Are you sure?" Moon asked, trying to hold back a smile but failing spectacularly.

"We're sure!" One of your triplets chirped. They might've looked innocent without the cheese smeared on their plump cheeks.

"You little rascals," you murmured with a smile, looking at your toddlers in the many arms of their papas. All three babies gushed at you, acting cute like they didn't just steal the bread pudding you were saving for dinner.

"Abuela said we could have it!"

"I DID NOT!" You heard her call down the hall. You chuckled as she passed down the hallway, carrying a basket of your toddlers' clothes into the washroom, "I did no such thing, mija."

She totally did. She loved spoiling her great-grandchildren, even when the gods she prayed and worshipped told her no. She would just look at them sternly until they caved. She even had a hold of Eclipse, where he would eventually acquiesce to her, but it was more out of mutual respect for each other. She was the woman that everyone obeyed when she raised so much as an eyebrow, the grandmother-in-law of the gods.

You looked back at your loves and babies, the smile never leaving your face.

"Alright, who's hungry for sopapillas?"
