"I will leave my dear student, Boruto along with his sister in your care. Nara. I will try to visit often, tell this to Sakura."
"What are you planning to do, Sasuke? As his sensei and his father's best friend, you should be here to teach him to train as a better ninja for the village. Sarada too, never forget her or your family."
Sasuke turned his back on Shikamaru and spoke " You know our history, Nara. And I will, bring him back. No matter what."
His piercing gaze onto Shikamaru as his cape rustled and as he vanished like a shadow in the dark.

The village chose Shikamaru as the new Hokage, being the former's advisor and close friend. Shikamaru had done alot in that term.
Sasuke chose to search for Kawaki and try to get Naruto and Hinata back for.. for some reason.
Kawaki disappeared without trace yet again after sealing Naruto and Hinata and causing ruckus with the village. His chakra signature cannot be reached out nor found, he wasnt sensed. With Kawaki's relation to the Otsutsuki, only Sasuke himself would be able to ever atleast fight him knowing that the strongest ninja was sealed.
This strongest ninja isn't just the strongest in the Uchiha's perspective, that very ninja is his friend. His light. They were both important to each other, with this bond and connection they have knowingly requited.
And as moments and seconds pass without Naruto's presence, it hurts. It hurts Sasuke to his core that he can't stop thinking about him. Is this... perhaps what Naruto felt back then? They always parallel each other, so Sasuke thought this feeling wasn't different from what Naruto had been at back then.
Sasuke then thought, what is Naruto doing right now? Is he fine? And is he thinking about the village, his son or him?
There wasn't time to think. He needs to start moving, find Kawaki and get Naruto back. Atleast by this quest he had sweared and engraved to his heart, he can pay Naruto.
