Mission Log #19
Location: Kamino
Operative: Special Agent Elayna Corvet
Squad: Flyboys
Year: 35 ABY (Days after the Battle of Exegol)
Elayna's tried and true U-Wing controls fit comfortably in her grasp. Preparing herself for the exit out of lightspeed, she called back to some familiar Resistance heroes in their seats.
"Coming up on Kamino now! Hope you brought your rain boots!"
She pulled back on the hyperspace lever and exited the blue tunnel of immeasurable speed. The majority of the frontal viewport was blue from the light reflecting off of the planet, storm clouds spread out across major parts of the surface.
"Great, more rain."
Mac, Commander in the Resistance and the first member of the group that she had met during the Battle of Exegol, groaned.
"I'll tell you what, it beats the hot and humid of Thyferra though don't it?"
Layne, the Twi'lek Lieutenant and newest member of the Flyboys aside from Elayna, replied.
"Yeah, he's right there."
Jon'Kil, the First Order-turned force-sensitive Resistance Captain, kept it short.
"Elayna, last time I checked you were the one that tripped coming off the transport."
General Jaycob Flesio, easily the most notable out of the party and leader of the entire Resistance second only to Poe Dameron, recalled back to the Uprising on Corellia that they all took part in. Elayna shook her head and tried to fight the embarrassed smile that was creeping onto her lips. She tried to recover,
"Hence why I warn of the slipperiness now! Learn from my mistakes, Jaycob!"
"Sign of a great leader, admitting your faults. Couldn't be me."
Jaycob responded jokingly laughing. Elayna returned the chuckle,
"I mean I'll gladly take the General position over for you if you'd like?"
"Yeah! Finally-"
Layne began to tease, only to be met with Jaycob smacking his shoulder. The ship was immediately met with heavy rain as they entered the atmosphere, lightning bolts threatening to strike them as they made their descent to one of the many open landing pads connected to the old cloning facility.
"The birthplace of the Republic."
Layne commented, rising from his seat and making his way to one of the windowed side doors to look out onto the waterscape.
"Hard to believe that millions of clones were pumped out of here."
Mac stated, referring to how run-down the facilities now looked. No lights were on, either outside marking the landing pads or inside the buildings themselves. This place was abandoned. They touched down on one of the many empty landing pads, opening the starboard-side sliding door. The area was eerily silent aside from the constant pattering of the rain hitting the top of the U-Wing.
Layne and Jaycob exited first, pulling their poncho hoods over their heads and shemaghs over the bottom half of their faces. Elayna unbuckled from her seat and walked down the cockpit stairs to the main hold and toward her housed gear.
"It's gonna be dark in their boys, anyone else need a flashlight?"
She offered, taking one for herself and holstering it on her belt. Mac raised his hand. Elayna took a spare flashlight and tossed it. The pilot caught it, nodded his head in thanks, and joined the rest of the group who were now securing the immediate landing perimeter.
Elayna finished grabbing the rest of her things, the last item being her customized E-10R blaster rifle which she stowed on her body via a shoulder strap. Instead of joining the rest of the crew in securing the area, she sat on the ledge of the sliding door and pulled out her pair of electrobinoculars. Surveying the other distant buildings and landing areas, she was expecting to see at least some form of life. Yet there was none. She switched on her comms.
"Guys, didn't the brief say that there was some type of uprising here too? From the looks of it, we're either too early or too late for the fight."
Jaycob made his way over to Elayna and traced her eye-line. She offered him her electrobinoculars, which he took and raised to his face.
"Yeah, you're right. This place is dead as hell."
He confirmed, returning the piece of equipment back into Elayna's hands. Jon'Kil regrouped with the pair too, shrugging his arms at them and turning to face the cloning facility.
"So what do we do now? We still have around one hour before the rest of the party shows up. Is it even worth taking a look?"
Elayna and Jon'Kil looked at Jaycob, who crossed his arms and assumed a thinking stance. A few seconds went by before he nodded.
"Might as well."
Mac and Layne pushed toward the single bridge that extended to the next platform over. Mac's voice came over the comms.
"If I still had my Y-Wing I would've had this scanned in no time."
Jaycob motioned for Jon'Kil and Elayna to follow him, as he too walked toward the bridge.
"Locking up."
Elayna called out, shutting the sliding door and securing the entrances before making the group whole again.
"Mac, how many scan darts do you have?"
Jaycob questioned.
"Five total, way ahead of you Jaycob."
Mac exchanged his NT-242 for his scan dart launcher, breaking open the tube and sliding a cylindrical munition inside. His weapon made a loud pop as the scan dart was expelled from the launcher, making contact with the closest building's closed blast doors, bursting and sending out five sonic waves in a circular pattern from the epicenter of the impact point. There was only one sign of life that could be made out through the wall, a body slumped and sitting against something.
Layne and Mac jogged to get a closer look before the scan dart was rendered ineffective, but the red bodily outline disappeared just as quickly as it showed up. Layne and Mac stopped in their tracks disappointed, then turned to look at the rest of the party.
"You guys did see that, right?"
Layne asked, pointing at where the imprint used to be on the wall.
"Yes."
Jon'Kil answered quickly, moving past the two and toward the door controls. The rest of group readied their weapons, pointing their barrels toward the door. After a moment of fiddling with the controls, the Chiss powered on his protosaber and went to the center of the blast door.
"Have to make our own entrance."
He muttered to no-one in particular. The group responded by turning around and covering their backs as he worked.
"Rey told me-"
Jon'Kil continued,
"-that the key...to carving a perfect hole...to fit through-"
He grunts.
"-is to...twist the hilt while cutting."
He was about eighty-percent of the way through completing his circle, when Mac replied.
"Good to know, Chiss."
Once the cut was completed, Jon'Kil raised his off-hand up and with an open palm made a pushing motion. The newly-cut circle shifted into the building and fell on its side. Elayna immediately reached for her flashlight and shined a beam into the interior. Jon'Kil stepped aside to let the eager spy through.
"I'll check it out."
Elayna volunteered, attaching her flashlight to a side housing on her weapon.
