After the final battle ended, Pansy sat amid the rubble. She was unsure what to do or say to help the situation. Pansy was embarrassed with how she'd acted today if she was honest with herself. She'd basically begged everyone to give Harry to the Dark Lord. How could she have done that?
Luna quietly came over and sat down next to her on the rock. "Are you okay?" the blonde witch asked.
"No," Pansy admitted.
"That's okay," Luna told the witch. "I'm not okay either."
"I think we are not okay for different reasons, Lovegood," pansy noted, brows furrowed.
Luna shrugged. "That happens. Just because we're struggling with different problems doesn't mean we can't console one another. What is troubling you?"
"I'm not sure I feel comfortable sharing that with you," Pansy said, glancing at the witch finally.
"I'll tell you why I am sad-"
"You don't have to…."
"I'm sad because we lost some really great people today," Luna said without being prompted. She placed her hand on Pansy's knee, ignoring how the other witch glared at it. "I'm also sad that you're sad. I hate to see people in pain."
Pansy sat there and let out a sigh. Luna was too kind for her own good, but having the witch share, her thoughts did make her feel a little better about hers. "I'm more embarrassed than sad," she began and then swallowed. "I wanted to give Potter to the Dark Lord, and I feel bad for that. Now people are dead, and I feel responsible."
"Voldemort was going to have us fight even if you handed Harry over," Luna told Pansy. "He was a bad wizard; bad wizards want only death and destruction. So no one is mad at you."
"Are you sure?" Pansy asked, feeling her eyes prick with tears. "I don't want people to think I'm bad."
"We all make mistakes, Pansy." Luna smiled at Pansy and then added, "I bet Harry would tell you the same if you apologize."
"I wouldn't even know what to say."
"You don't have to do it today," Luna told her, patting her knee. "Today, you should just worry about letting your grief out and trying not to worry about what others think."
"You're benign too nice to me, Lovegood," Pansy told the witch and wiped at her eyes. "I don't deserve your kindness.
"Someday, you'll see that this is exactly what you need." Pansy didn't know what to say, so she just nodded. "You can rest your head on my shoulder if you want," Luna told Pansy. "I won't even mind if you cry." Pansy nodded, and Luna smiled at her before becoming silent.
After a while, Pansy took Luna up on her offer. She leaned her head on the witch's shoulder and let the tears fall from her eyes. She'd be alright evening, and so would Luna. Maybe they could be friends now and help each other through the aftermath of this war. Whatever happened, Luna was right…. It would be okay, and they would survive.
