This work was written for the Winds of Change 2023 Femmeslash February Event. The theme is WLW-centered stories.

Did I have a week full of computer shit? Yes, I did.

Work Text:

"Sabina, does this cord go in the yellow socket?"

Sabina nearly dropped her tea at that. Had Fiona never set up her computer before? Right. Nobility. They probably had the housekeeper do it or something. "NO! DO NOT TOUCH THOSE CABLES!"

Fiona pouted dramatically. She did look cute like that, but she knew better than to cave to that look. Sometimes, you just need to prevent property destruction. Sabina let out a sigh. It wasn't that Fiona didn't want to help. It was that she didn't have the foggiest clue about what she was doing. "So, erm, what should I do? I mean, I bought this. It should be pretty foolproof, right?"

Sabina let out another sigh. She was trying to be nice about this. Fiona had somehow mixed up the cables. The yellow cable went into the yellow socket. It wasn't that hard. Then again, this was probably her first time even seeing a disassembled computer. "Why don't you let me show you how to do it?"

Fiona scooted over on the couch. She waved at the spot next to her. Sabina came over and sat down. The tea could wait. "Now, if you look at the cables and the color system on the sockets…"

The computer wasn't bad to assemble. Fiona seemed to be nodding along to her explanation. Sabina put the components down. "Now, why don't you try? I'll watch and make sure you don't do any permanent damage."

Fiona eagerly picked up the first wire. Sabina watched her successfully assemble the computer. It was always gratifying to see someone learn something from her. "How did I do?"

Fiona was chewing her lower lip. Sabina smiled. It was perfectly assembled. "You did great! Now for the hard part. Transferring all of your files over. And making sure your apps run."

Fiona grumbled. Sabina thought she was cute when she got all pouty like that. It was kind of fun to teach her how to do computer stuff. Sabina had considered a career in IT, but one creepy meeting with MI6 at the career fair changed her mind. Patent law it was. "THAT WAS THE EASY PART?!"

Sabina smiled at her. She felt her ribs strain as she tried to keep from laughing. This was what you got when you bought a shiny new toy that you had no idea how to use. She had told Fiona to just get a normal laptop for a reason. That reason was that Fiona represented the average computer user. She didn't do big data or hardcore gaming. "I'm afraid so. Would you like a tea break before we begin?"

Fiona let out a groan. She followed Sabina into the kitchen for a tea break. Sabina set the kettle to boil while Fiona grabbed the tea box that they shared. "So, if we're doing a tea break now, how bad is the other stuff going to be?"

Sabina honestly had no idea. It depended on what kind of application and data Fiona wanted to transfer from her old computer. At least both devices were Windows. "We'll see. It could be two hours. It could be one of my rare takeout nights. Plus, you'll want to make sure that all of your files are transported well and that your games and the like are working."

Fiona let out a groan and dug out a pack of biscuits. Sabina watched as she began to much on the jam-covered biscuits. It was a good job that Fiona did sports. Those cookies were full butter and had real sugar in them. "I need some kind of continuous sugar supply for this. Computers are fucking evil, Sab. EVILLLLLL!"

Sabina laughed at Fiona's expression. Hopefully, this computer setup would last her a while. If not, she was willing to adopt the computer if Fiona no longer wanted it. It was a snazzy piece of equipment and she did like the occasionally high-performance game. "Don't worry, Fi. I'll help you with computer exorcism and necromancy."

Fiona sulked towards the computers after finishing her food. Sabina had a rule about food, drinks, and computers. Mostly that the three never mixed in her house. She had lost one too many hard drives to her niece's spills for that. "Fiiinnnne. Lead the way. What do we want to do next?"

Sabina smiled. This was going to be the fun part. It was time for Fiona to learn how to link two laptops for a Windows file transfer. "Alright, you're going to learn about how to transfer files the quick way…"

It had been two hours. Not even a fourth of Fiona's files had made it over yet. They were both bored out of their minds. Sabina squinted at her. It was a little bit suspicious. "What kinds of files do you have on there?"

Fiona blushed slightly. Sabina continued looking at her. It couldn't be too horrible. Her girlfriend broke after a few seconds. "Porn."

Sabina started laughing. It was a bit ridiculous. It did explain why the files would need about fifteen to twenty hours to transfer over. "That'll do it. You may as well shut both computers. The transfer is going to take the entire night. Next time, just tell me. For future reference, just tell whoever does your computer stuff that you have a large volume of video files."

Fiona made grumbling noises under her breath. She didn't look very happy. This was going to take most of the weekend. Sabina leaned back against the couch. It was about time to eat dinner, anyhow. "Do you want to get takeout?"

Fiona immediately perked up. They had cooked all of their meals for the past five months. Sabina could practically see the hearts in her eyes. "Takeout?"

Sabina gave her an amused glance. To be honest, she didn't feel like cooking and they were low on food, anyhow. Fiona was giving her hopeful looks. "You heard me. Just order whatever you feel like and get me something you'll know I'll like. I'm going to get cleaned up."

Sabina left a very excited Fiona typing into her phone. It was time for her to take a shower. Working with computers always made her sweat.
