Work Text:
Soft music fills the room from the small radio laying between them. No words uttered but she can practically hear the thoughts running through Steve’s brain; he’ll talk in his own time so Robin lets them lay in comfortable silence.
Steve stares at the stars on her ceiling while he tries to form his million thoughts into words. He reaches across the space between them to grab her hand. The subtle weight grounds him enough for his brain to slow down.
“My parents are back, I don’t know for how long but they've already thrown off my schedule. Mom is upset that the house isn’t perfect, dad is up my ass about work and settling down. Eddie was in the house when they came in, they’re trying to convince me that he is evil, corrupting me. They wouldn’t believe me when I told them he was innocent, that he couldn’t hurt a fly. They just yelled at him to leave.” His voice is quiet, barely above a whisper. Robin rolls on her side to look at Steve.
“I’m so sorry Stevie.” He feels her gaze on him but can’t bring himself to meet it. Steve gives her hand a gentle squeeze. “What do you need right now?” Her voice even, non judgemental. “Pressure, please?”
“Of course dingus. You get comfy and I’ll be back in a sec.” He hears her going down the stairs probably to get water. A sigh leaves him as he lays on his stomach, Robin’s bed feels like home. He doesn’t know how much time has passed when the radio crackles as a new song starts to play. Freddie Mercury's voice blooms from the shitty speakers. Steve smiles at the song. ‘I can serenade and gently play on your heartstrings. Be your Valentino just for you.’ Eddie always sings this song to him when he’s overwhelmed, giving Steve the time to focus only on him. It’s become their song. And Steve would have it no other way.
He lets the music seep into his bones, washing away the tension in his muscles. 2 sets of footsteps can be heard coming up the stairs. “Hi prettyboy.” Eddie's voice drawls. This draws a tiny chuckle out of Steve. RObin hands him a glass with a straw in it. “I added the lemonade powder you like. Drink a bit then we can lay down.
Steve gives her a small nod, taking a few sips before handing the glass back. The bed dips as Eddie and Robin clamber onto the bed. Robin takes her place next to Steve while Eddie slowly lowers himself to lay flush on Steve’s back. The weight seemingly pushing out the last of the tension making Steve go limp. “Sorry about my parents, Ed.” Steve mumbles. A soft tsking comes from above. “Don’t apologize Stevie, you didn’t do anything. Just rest and we’ll talk later.” Eddie’s voice vibrates through Steve’s body. His eyes start feeling heavier as he feels hands run through his hair. Steve reaches up and taps I love you against Eddies thigh. “I love you more loverboy.” Is the last thing Steve hears as his breathing levels out. He falls asleep surrounded with so much love, an amount he hopes he can reciprocate.
