Work Text:

In all honestly, nothing she did surprised him anymore. The fact Luna was currently standing on back lawn of the manor with a unicorn didn't even cause Draco to blink at this point.

“You found a unicorn,” he stated, watching as she led the creature onto the patio.

“She found me, actually. I was collecting mushrooms for dinner and there she was at the edge of the creek on the back of the property. She walked across the water and stood before me. Do you know what this means, Draco?” Luna asked.

“No, but I'm sure you'll tell me,” Draco answered, trying to remember everything he knew about unicorns. He knew the babies were gold in color and preferred a female touch. Their horns could purify poisons and had healing properties. Unicorn blood could sustain life, but it was a cursed life and killing a unicorn was a crime.

“Historically unicorns have always been seen as a symbol of purity,” Luna said, stroking the unicorn's silky mane. “And since we both know I'm not pure anymore,” Luna smirked slightly, causing Draco's face to redden. Their wedding night had been...neither of them had been experienced so it remained a semi-awkward memory for the both of them.

“Then why is the unicorn following you around?” he asked, staring at it the pure white creature. He wondered if it was tame, if it had been someone's pet, he'd heard of people trying to keep herds of unicorns for potion ingredients. He had no idea if such a thing was even actually possible.

“It must sense a purity to me, or in me,” Luna replied, petting the creature.

“Wait...purity in you...Luna...”

Luna just nodded, having come to the same conclusion Draco just had.

“So what do we now? I mean, we need to confirm it, and no, a unicorn is confirmation, right?”

“Right, you're right. But it does fit, it's possible,” Luna said, sinking into one of the wicker patio chairs. The unicorn nuzzled her midsection and Luna looked over at Draco.

“I'll see about setting up an appointment with one of the family healers, unless you'd rather take your chances at St. Mungo's?”

“A family healer is fine, I'm sure the Malfoys have hired no one but the best,” Luna answered, a slight laughter to her words. Draco was used to her teasing him ever so slightly about his family name, about how his family had used it for so long.

“Of course we do!” Draco replied, walking over to Luna. The unicorn reared up slightly before turning and darting off into the woods surrounding the property. Luna gave Draco a fake glare but ended up just bursting out laughing.

“Guess I'm not pure enough for it,” he muttered.

“It was sweet while it was here, but I much prefer your company to a unicorn. They're not very good conversationalists,” Luna stated, taking Draco's hand in hers. “Besides, I love you,” she added, pulling him down and giving him a quick kiss. “Go owl your healer and let me know where I need to be when,” she said.

“Right, I'll send that now,” he replied, giving her a kiss on the forehead before heading back inside the manor, almost in shock at the idea of being told he was possibly going to be a father by a unicorn. Then again, this was Luna, what other way could it possibly have happened?
