Work Text:
As far as Soifon was concerned, the blame for all this, somehow, lay at Rangiku Matsumoto's feet.
Well, she supposed the Shinigami Women's Association bore its own share of guilt, to be fair.
It had all started innocently enough: brainstorming ideas for fundraising, as they tended to. With the annual calendar still a few months off and a recent deficit of petty cash (President Kusajishi's acquisition of a large pile of candy, she assured the group, completely unrelated), Vice-President Ise had felt this was a matter of pressing concern. And, of course, Valentine's Day was just around the corner, a perfect holiday to separate those looking for flashy last-minute gifts from their money.
So the usual suggestions had gone around-- a bake sale, a raffle, a few other ideas that failed to catch the group's collective interest, until the newest Captain among them proposed something just different enough to enliven the proceedings.
"What about... a really fancy auction?" Rukia Kuchiki had suggested, catching the eyes of every up-to-then listless member present. "We could rent a nice hall in the human world, and get everyone all dressed up, really make it a classy night on the town! We'd spend a fair bit setting it up, but I'm sure once enough people get sucked into the atmosphere, they'd really let the money flow!"
Despite some initial pushback from Nanao, there was such a rush of enthusiasm from the rest of the SWA at the prospect of such a radical change of pace that the proposal was accepted with almost universal approval.
And so here she was, the feared and respected Captain of the Second Division, leader of the Onmitsukido, Warden of the Central Great Underground Prison... standing in the elegantly decorated ballroom of one of the finer hotels in Tokyo, nursing a glass of champagne and feeling rather... exposed and isolated despite being surrounded by fellow shinigami in a sea of tuxedos and dresses of all kinds.
This was due in no small part to her attire, something she would never have picked out on her own; a sleeveless navy dress with a wide, short hem that flared out to accommodate frills and ruffles that occupied the space up to the sheer hose on her legs, capped with matching short-heeled shoes. It was solid up to her chest, where the cut dipped slightly into her modest cleavage, but from this point to where it wrapped around her neck the fabric was sheer as well, accented delicately with some intricate beadwork. A lovely dress by any estimation, but one that left Soifon feeling silly and out-of-place all the same.
So then why was she here, like this, at an event she was not required to attend, when she would much rather have been at least going through a mountain of paperwork she knew would be waiting for her after this was all done?
Well... that was complicated.
And ultimately, tied back to Rangiku Matsumoto.
---
"Now THIS would be perfect--"
"Absolutely not."
Pouting a bit, Rangiku glanced back and forth between Soifon-- seated on the chair in the boutique's dressing room-- and the tight cocktail dress she held up with a few too many gaps and slits for the Captain's liking, before giving an exaggerated sigh and moving it to the 'rejects' hanger, which nearly overflowed with similarly risque choices.
Soifon knew too well by now how Rangiku's fashion choices leaned, at least where she was concerned, and yet here she was, indulging her--
Well, not her 'girlfriend.' Not really. 'Lover' seemed like an odd fit too, but then... she wasn't quite sure what, exactly, she would quantify this... 'relationship' as.
It wasn't a connection she'd intended to make, certainly, and before now she wouldn't have even considered the 10th Division Vice-Captain as a companion of any sort, though she liked her well enough in the same ambivalent way she'd regarded anyone else who didn't happen to be Yoruichi Shihouin.
But she'd happened to be there, in an extremely rare moment she'd let her guard down, feeling far more than she felt she had any right to about her kind and beautiful yet ever-distant former mentor. She'd taken Soifon home, there'd been too much sake, and a rare, friendly instance of inter-Divisional solidarity had somehow turned into... something else altogether.
Soifon, privately, had expected that unplanned moment of intimacy to become a somewhat awkward memory, one neither would bring up again before eventually fading away.
And yet it hadn't.
They'd simply... continued, partly spurred on by Rangiku, who became a somewhat permanent fixture in Soifon's life, sliding onto the couch in her office when a bout of laziness struck her, or appearing at her living quarters with dinner in hand (and the spare key she'd allowed Rangiku to have, for her convenience of course, in the event of a Divisional emergency of some sort). For her part, Soifon had found it convenient (in between surprisingly prolonged stretches in bed) to ensure Rangiku's paperwork got taken care of, or to prepare a jar of the pickled persimmons she seemed to favor.
Several months had passed of this odd arrangement, long enough that Soifon had begun to take it for granted as a natural part of her daily routine; a spare uniform she kept at Rangiku's quarters, the ever-growing supply of expensive beauty products that occupied her own til-recently spartan bathroom counter for Rangiku's own routines.
And so there she was, in a dressing room, while Rangiku, this... woman in her life, continued poking through a seemingly endless mountain of outfits.
"For someone who never dresses up, you're so picky," Rangiku grumbled, while holding up an iridescent green gown that she simply held up, as if eyeballing it in Soifon's general direction, before moving it to the 'reject' hanger herself. "I would think a nice change of pace would be fun for you now and then."
"I dress up," Soifon retorted, and before Rangiku could press her for an example, she simply continued. "I haven't even decided if I'm going."
"Hmm. Well that's certainly a step up from (and here Rangiku's voice dropped low, in a crude, playful imitation of the Captain herself)'There's no way I'd attend such a frivolous event,' so I'm making progress!"
Soifon's mouth opened briefly before she closed it again, unable to come back from such a spot-on impression, and simply huffed as she crossed her arms and sat back in the chair, Rangiku's pleased little giggle not escaping her notice. After a quiet moment, Soifon decided to change tactics.
"I'm surprised you're so eager to attend. It's not as though you don't blow off these Women's Association events more often than not."
"Well..." Rangiku drawled out the last syllable, seeming uncharacteristically wistful before continuing, "I was just thinking it might be fun, since you're going on that loooong Human World mission--"
"It's only for a few weeks. A shorter one for the Onmitsukido, honestly."
"...But it's going to be the longest we've gone without fucking in a while now," Rangiku said so frankly that Soifon turned bright red, looking scandalized even as the Lieutenant appeared rather pleased with her reaction. "And I'm going to be soooo lonely until you get back."
Soifon turned away, face still scarlet, not even able to look Rangiku in the eye as the taller woman smirked coyly at her.
"Besides... I was thinking maybe... we could make a date of it. For the occasion."
Somehow, the carefully wording of the phrase, combined with the timing of Rangiku focusing intently on the beadwork of a light blue gown, face just barely turned away and obscured by her long amber hair, left Soifon agape, even more shocked than if she'd made another risque statement.
Even in light of everything (everything) they'd done together, the suggestion seemed... strange, momentous. Soifon could not even charitably call herself knowledgeable on relationships and even she felt a strange weight in the pit of her stomach at such a proposal. Seeming to read the distinct shift in the tiny room, Rangiku began speaking again, perhaps just a bit faster than normal, the closest thing Soifon had ever heard this casual, composed woman sound under everyday circumstances.
"I mean, only if you wanted to! I just thought, there's so much of the Human World you don't get to see, and I'm so familiar with it, that it might be a good time after such a long stretch of work to--"
"Why not."
Rangiku stopped, and Soifon felt her stomach drop. She wanted to sound casual, but had she sounded too casual? Would Rangiku take that as a 'no'? Shit, she needed to keep talking. Fighting a Menos Grande armed with a stick seemed preferable to... whatever was going on in her head right now.
"I-I mean... That... sounds like... fun," Soifon managed finally, forcing herself to hold eye contact with Rangiku, painfully aware of how hard it was to breathe in this exact moment. "I'd love to."
Rangiku seemed pleased, but what really gave her excitement away was how her eyes seemed to smile, something Soifon had noticed more often when her enthusiasm got away from her.
"Okay! Then I've got some serious planning to do," Rangiku declared, glancing quickly through the remaining dresses before finally settling on one and shoving it at Soifon, then preparing to leave.
"W-wait, you really don't need to, and besides you don't even know if I like--"
"I knew that one would be perfect the second I saw it," Rangiku cut her off, her smile nearly ear-to-ear. "I just wanted to keep you to myself a bit longer before you left," she admitted.
And before Soifon could reply, she declared over the slam of the door, "And don't worry, my dress is going to leave you speechless!"
---
She finished the champagne perhaps a bit faster than she'd intended to, and without ceremony simply left the flute on a nearby table.
Rangiku was late, and though no one had really spoken to Soifon aside from the occasional polite greeting, the longer she stood here the more exposed she felt. And the more the reality of the situation set in on her.
She was dressed up. For a fancy date. With Rangiku. Well, technically, for the Shinigami Women's Association's First Annual Valentine's Day Auction. But really, honestly, for Rangiku.
And it made her truly nervous in a way she didn't think she'd ever felt, not even around... well, her .
In her more idle moments, of which there were admittedly few, Soifon had begun to wonder if she might be feeling more than just physical attraction to the 10th Division Lieutenant, but the simple truth was she had nothing to compare this arrangement to.
She had been in love, once, or at least the closest she thought she'd come to it, long ago in simpler days, before anger and bitterness had been her driving force. Even after she and Yoruichi had come to be on amicable terms again, burying herself in her work as Captain had just made sense to her. There was no family she had left, few she would consider friends and even fewer still who might consider her one. And her affection for Yoruichi had been driven by awe and admiration-- even if the Flash Goddess had deigned to bestow even a measure of reciprocation upon her, she would have hardly known how to handle it.
So no, Soifon was fairly certain, despite the undeniable (and somewhat embarrassing) desire she felt, she wasn't in love with Rangiku, whatever that meant.
And yet she was anxious in a way she couldn't articulate, and nearly jumped when a now familiar voice rang out gently behind her.
"A perfect choice, just like I thought." Soifon turned, about to berate Rangiku for her tardiness, when her words simply died in her throat.
Rangiku was in a long, burgundy gown that nearly touched the marble floor, matching shoes and the barest hint of black stockings visible through the ever-shifting slit down the side. Her considerable bust was reigned in somewhat by the dress' halter top, which all the same left little to the imagination. Her dark blonde hair, flecked with hints of red, hung loose behind her back, with long sparkling earrings framing her face and accenting the matching red of her lipstick.
Soifon was more than aware that she was intimately involved with one of the most widely desired women in Soul Society, but just as now, there were many times it still managed to surprise her.
"Aaaand speechless, just as promised," Rangiku teased, looking rather pleased with herself, leaving Soifon to break eye contact as she tried to regain her composure. If Rangiku felt anywhere near as out-of-sorts as she did, she was doing a much better job of hiding it. "Hey, your hair... you changed it?"
"O-oh," Soifon recovered, fingers thoughtlessly landing on the short braid she'd tied as the last touch for her preparations, just over her right ear. "I... well, I saw it in... one of the magazines you left the other day, and I just thought..."
She was fumbling, tongue-tied all of a sudden, completely avoiding Rangiku's gaze, before she ended up sighing, defeated.
"I'm sorry. I... I must look ridiculous."
"No," Rangiku replied, and as much as the immediacy of her statement took Soifon by surprise, it was the... gentleness, the warmth buried in it, that got her attention. "You look amazing."
It was here Soifon dared to look Rangiku in the eye, and it was here that she was confronted with an expression she'd noticed from Rangiku more recently of late-- her gaze soft, smile warm and wistful, the usual devil-may-care playfulness she sported absent in favor of something Soifon could only feel as deeply genuine and even affectionate.
And even now it never ceased to give Soifon the strangest feeling, as if she was small and helpless but completely safe at the same time.
"Ah, Rangiku-san! Perfect timing!"
Somehow, oblivious to the moment they were having, Capatin Kotetsu and Lieutenant Ise appeared from the crowd, and the reminder that they were technically here on Soul Society business came rushing back. These were people Rangiku easily counted as friends, but the briefest flash of disappointment crossed her face all the same before eagerly greeting them. The two acknowledged Soifon respectfully, but neither seemed to wonder why the Captain and Vice-Captain of two very distant Divisions-- who administratively speaking, had very little crossover-- would be engaging in small-talk.
"I have to admit, I was a bit worried... but it seems Captain Kuchiki's suggestion paid off considerably. I think this will keep our coffers full for quite a while," Nanao seemed relaxed, in the same limited sense of the term that Soifon herself often was, but at a glance she seemed to fit right in with the crowd in her simple yet elegant black knee-length dress. Captain Kotetsu had tied her hair back, the blue flowers of her hair piece matching neatly with her own attire, a strapless azure gown with a matching jacket.
"Everyone's having such a good time, too! We should really plan this again for next year," Isane chimed in.
"Fantastic!" Rangiku exclaimed cheerfully. "If you'll excuse me, I wanted another look at the prizes..."
But apparently oblivious to Rangiku's polite attempt to extricate herself from the conversation, the duo pressed on.
“Well, the big one is still the Hot Springs Resort package,” Nanao pointed out sharply. “But I really do think the restaurant in Shibuya will be an equally strong contender…”
Somehow, as quickly as Rangiku had intended for them to leave, she’d just as easily gotten caught up in talking to the Lieutenant and Captain, neither paying Soifon much mind or indeed expecting her to contribute. Which, to be honest, she was hardly putting much stock into the conversation either.
She felt guilty for even entertaining the thought, but at this moment Soifon wanted nothing more than for Nanao and Isane to simply... vanish back into the crowd and leave her and Rangiku be, especially since mere minutes ago she'd have done nearly anything to be simply back at her office working away.
But now Rangiku was right here , and Soifon had tried so hard for three weeks not to think about how much she'd... well, missed her, and yet she might as well be on the other side of the planet for all the decorum and polite nothings keeping them from this date she knew Rangiku had definitely gone through a mountain of trouble planning--
And then something happened that knocked just about every idle, bitter, childish thought out of her head, and it took every last bit of her effort to not react beyond a tiny, imperceptible gasp under her breath.
There was a hand-- Rangiku's hand, she realized after a moment-- resting at the small of her exposed back. More like her fingertips, the curve of her thumb, idling on the base of her spine, a warm counter to the chill of the air-conditioned ballroom.
She chanced a quick look over at Rangiku-- who was still chatting politely with Nanao and Isane, her tempo unbroken-- and at the pair across from them, who hadn't seemed to notice the gesture. Soifon was close, but not so close that it would have drawn anyone's attention, and yet the arrangement of their bodies had made the subtlety of Rangiku's contact unclear. After a while Soifon came to the conclusion that unless she made a big show of it, no one seemed to have caught this small but blatantly familiar gesture, which meant she really had no choice but to be simply aware of it.
No one had ever touched her like this , and she doubted most people would dare to, but of course Rangiku would. And it was hardly unpleasant but... it really had been a long time since Rangiku had touched her at all.
Too long, she thought idly, becoming acutely aware of the tiniest flex and twist of those now very familiar fingers against her skin, the crowd and the conversation and the very world around them little more than white noise. And she could swear she felt the tickle of Rangiku's breath on her ear, that hand sliding lower, lower, she felt powerless but the last thing in the world she wanted was for Rangiku to stop--
"...Don't you agree, Captain Soifon?"
"Hmm…? Oh. Y-yes, of course."
Soifon had absolutely no idea what Nanao had asked her, and thankfully she didn't seem interested in pressing her for more detail, because it was taking Soifon far more work than she could have ever imagined to keep her thoughts focused and under control.
But then... Rangiku was touching her, so casually, and she'd never had to consider how good even simply this would feel after an absence she'd convinced herself was nothing and yet now felt like ages.
The kind of completely unprofessional thoughts and memories it would set off in her.
It had been far, far too long.
---
A small eternity had passed-- or had seemed to-- by the time Soifon had registered that Rangiku had moved her hand back, and taking her surroundings in, she realized the two of them were in the hall just outside the ballroom.
"Are you okay?" Rangiku asked, brow furrowed with concern, and even without the distraction of being touched by her, Soifon's head was still spinning, helped in no small part by Rangiku's proximity. "You were... spacing out a bit there, and I was starting to worry..."
She hadn't caught it in the crowd, surrounded by all form of competing information, but now she was painfully aware of Rangiku's perfume, flowery and subtle and sweet. Soifon's eyes flitted from the dip of her cleavage to the meeting of her shoulder and collarbone, to the beauty mark right beside those lips, soft and red and inviting.
Soifon felt a wave of pressure on her chest, an ache between her legs, her very thoughts and perception blinded to everything but Rangiku, and while part of her appreciated the kindness she was being shown...
Gods. She was so, so much.
"Listen, if you're not feeling well... maybe we can take a rain check on the d--"
She was cut off without warning, and it took Soifon a moment to realize it was because she was kissing her. Partly on her tiptoes, partly pulling her down into it, craning past her voluminous chest to violently mash their lips together.
Rangiku stiffened briefly, understandably surprised by such a radical show of uninitiated affection on the Captain's part, before kissing her back, hands settling on Soifon's hips (Soifon couldn't help gasping into Rangiku's mouth at that) for a nice, long moment before Rangiku gently separated them. She was flushed but seemed pleasantly bewildered, all things considered.
"Wh-what's going on with... you..."
Her hand had drifted to Soifon's cheek, and Soifon felt so riled up she couldn't help pressing her face against it, unable to speak except for a low little whine she was sure she'd be completely ashamed of if her headspace was anything other than this. She felt herself going flush against Rangiku's body, grinding gently against her leg, which felt incredible even against competing leggings and fabric.
Her body was practically screaming what she wanted, even with her mouth uncooperative, and it was the moment that Rangiku's expression shifted from concerned to an all-too-familiar, agonizingly cocksure smirk that she knew she was well and truly done for.
"Hmm. Well isn't this interesting," Rangiku hummed playfully, even as she deliberately put her knee out and pressed Soifon into it, making her involuntarily arch back, biting her lip to keep from moaning out loud. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you're in no condition to stay out tonight, Captain."
The slightest encouragement and Soifon was practically humping Rangiku's leg already, face buried against her chest at least partially to hide how absolutely desperate she knew she must look, and so Rangiku seemed to take extreme pleasure in guiding her to look up at her with her free hand.
"Well, Captain?" She asked teasingly, her smile absolutely wicked as her voice dropped to a whisper. "Do you want me to take you to our room and fuck you ?"
Still unable to trust her own voice, Soifon nodded violently, or perhaps she simply shuddered all over, but either way Rangiku gave her the slightest peck on her nose just moments before a familiar, lumbering lout practically burst through the ballroom doors.
"Ah, Captain!" Marechiyo Omaeda declared in his booming voice, his surprisingly well-tailored tuxedo in stark contrast to the would-be yakuza haircut and gold chains he perpetually insisted on wearing. "The rest of the SWA is looking for you, they're starting the--"
He stared for a minute; the pair had disentangled for the most part but Soifon was still tightly wound and flushed down to her shoulders, visibly out of breath while Rangiku only had a few hairs out of place. Soifon knew he wasn't exactly the sharpest Lieutenant in Soul Society, but if he thought about it for longer than two seconds even he might piece things together.
"Wh-what's going..."
"Ah, Omaeda-san! Perfect timing," Rangiku exclaimed with forced cheerfulness, not missing a beat. "Captain Soifon seemed like she was feeling a bit under the weather, so I decided to check up on her and it seems she's not well enough to stay!"
"Wait, Captain Soifon sick? That's pretty unusu--"
"Isn't it? That's why I'm taking her up to one of the rooms to rest! Isn't that right, Captain?"
Rangiku didn't wait for Soifon to speak, knowing full well she didn't dare open her mouth at the moment, before she began ushering her to a nearby elevator.
"Anyway, thanks for covering for her, Omaeda-san! You're a lifesaver!"
He looked like he was still struggling to play catch-up with Rangiku's one-sided conversation as the elevator doors slid closed, and with a smirk she knowingly placed her hand on Soifon's exposed back, sliding it up and down as the elevator dinged its way to their floor.
—
Rangiku seemed to have more trouble with the room key than was necessary, but no sooner did the lock finally chime open that Soifon was ushered inside.
At a glance, the suite was rather extravagant– ceiling-height windows giving a clear view out into the twilight as tall buildings glittered in the distance, flashes of golden adornments on the nearby furniture, and a spacious open bath.
But much of the room was indistinct in shadow, even with moonlight pouring in. And in truth, there was only one thing in this room either of them were focused on; the massive, plush bed Soifon found herself against, just high enough that the top of it met the petite Captain’s upper thigh.
“Down.”
The command, paired with the pressure of Rangiku’s hand moving up between her shoulder blades before pressing forward, insistent , combined with Soifon’s currently restless, needy energy, left her body simply accepting the guiding pressure and bending over at the waist, folded in half so her hands and forearms supported her on the soft, fragrant comforter. Soifon was breathing hard already, her head a mess and legs ready to give out, which Rangiku seemed to catch as she playfully tapped her hip, and her soldier’s discipline kept her legs taut and spread even before Rangiku insisted that she hold her position.
“Good girl. Now don’t move.”
Without another word, Rangiku’s hand pulled away and unprompted, Soifon gave out the most pathetic little whine, and she could swear she could feel Rangiku’s unseen smirk as her footsteps moved away, followed by the clicking and sliding of the door’s locks going into place. After this it was quiet– too quiet– for a long while save for the occasional bit of rustling, but just as Soifon began to fidget, almost ready to take the chance at disobeying Rangiku so she could touch herself, just a bit, even the slightest taste of relief…
“By my count… probably 300,000 Yen.”
Rangiku’s statement had been accompanied by the sudden sensation of both of her beautifully manicured hands placed on Soifon’s hips, directly underneath the maze of frills on her dress’ skirt, and as out of sorts as the Captain was all she could manage in response was a bewildered little noise, but her confusion seemed like enough of a response at least that Rangiku continued.
“Oh just thinking about costs… two tickets to the aquarium, followed by one of the finest restaurants in Tokyo– barely had time to make reservations three weeks in advance, of course– followed by a lovely stroll to an upscale coffee shop before spending the night at this exquisite hotel…”
She made a little pouting noise, so apparently disappointed even as her hands roamed greedily over Soifon’s backside, and seeming to pay no mind to her struggling to keep herself under control.
“Here I made all these plans for a perfect Valentine’s date, only for it to turn out that I could have saved most of it if I’d known what a desperate little slut the big, scary Second Division Captain was all along.”
Under any other circumstance, no one could have gotten away with calling Soifon that. But the way Rangiku said it, so sweetly and so playfully, she couldn’t deny it even if she’d had the sense to. It didn’t help at all that Rangiku’s hands had slipped further south, her panties slid down just enough that her fingertips were beginning to tease along her labia, her clit, where she’d been positively dripping for far longer than she’d have liked to admit.
“I think…”
Suddenly her hand landed against the small of Soifon’s back again, sliding slowly up, up her spine, as if pressing her deeper into the bed.
“...You should pay me back…”
Her palm came to rest right between Soifon’s shoulder blades, the tracks of her touch shooting pins and needles up the Captain’s spine as she squirmed, aching, more for show than to truly break Rangiku’s control of the situation, of her, in this moment.
“...With your body , don’t you agree?”
Oh fuck.
Oh fuck.
Soifon was thankful her face was pressed into the comforter, because she could only imagine what she’d look like to Rangiku if she had been lying on her back, but as it was she trembled so hard, fingertips to tiptoes, that it was painfully obvious she’d gone over the edge, goaded by her own neediness and Rangiku’s complete command of the situation– and from some pointed focus, Rangiku seemed more than aware of how much more visibly drenched she’d become at that moment.
“Well?” Rangiku prompted, the glee clear as day in her voice as she shifted her position, lining her hips square up with Soifon’s, one hand’s fingers pressed firmly into her pubic bone and the other ruffling through the short hair at the back of her neck, face pressed against the crook of her neck so all she had to do was simply whisper, but it sounded like fireworks in Soifon’s head as her thoughts ran wild. “Does that sound good to you, Captain?”
Fuck. She was really going to force her to say it, was she? For being viewed as the easygoing, fun-loving Lieutenant of the Tenth Division, Soifon had certainly noticed a bit of a cruel streak of hers… at least, when it came to these kinds of scenarios.
“P-please…” Soifon gasped as Rangiku rolled her hips against her– the friction, the heat, the softness of her breasts on her back– ending her compliant request in a tortured moan.
“Please what? ”
“P-puh-please… Please. Please fuck me. I… I need you to fuck me, Rangiku Matsumoto.”
Apparently satisfied, Rangiku placed the tiniest, gentlest kiss on the back of her neck, a simple “good girl” whispered as she pulled away, and the movement of her hands, the tickle of her breath indicated she gotten on her knees behind her, fingertips spreading Soifon out.
“Oh. And don’t you dare be quiet,” Rangiku commanded playfully. “I kind of want this entire hotel to know I’m fucking you.”
And with that, she drove her face right between Soifon’s legs.
Instinctively, Soifon went rigid, every muscle in her body seeming to tense and spasm as Rangiku’s lips and mouth and tongue went to work on her, fingers wound white-knuckle tight in the bedspread as the Lieutenant punctuated her rhythm with the occasional smack on her rear– a hard slap on the left cheek, followed by the right, or else digging in firmly with fingertips to intensify the now stinging red flesh. What seemed particularly cruel was how keen Rangiku was to keep her teetering on the edge before she would unceremoniously allow Soifon to tumble off it into orgasm again; slowing her tongue and dragging out her attentions when Soifon’s whole body seemed to tremble violently (a surefire tell of hers by now, Rangiku had discovered), or cleverly manipulating her clit or sliding a finger or two inside her if it appeared that she might be recovering even slightly.
And seemingly helpless to disobey, Soifon certainly voiced her pleasure without end, whether it was a high-pitched whine through her teeth or a deep moan, forehead buried into the plush comforter as her jaw hung slack, drool spilling out as her mouth refused to close.
Soifon, provided Rangiku would allow her even the slightest bit of coherence, could hardly say this treatment wasn’t what she wanted. But the sheer intensity of Rangiku’s attentions, the skill with which she so effortlessly had tamed her… clearly, she’d underestimated Rangiku’s own hunger.
Or perhaps she was merely as eager for this scenario as Soifon had been.
“Up,” Rangiku spat out as she hooked her slickened hand into the crook of Soifon’s knee, and taking the hint Soifon lifted her leg up to prop it on the edge of the bed, spreading herself out more openly for Rangiku. Elegant fingernails dragged from knee to thigh, and there was the quiet tear of fabric as Soifon’s panties fell away, even as Rangiku seemingly made no effort to remove her dress. At Rangiku’s mercy, she clearly wanted Soifon like this; disheveled and without even the dignity of being completely naked. Just blindly eager to touch her, with hardly any thought to consequence or decorum.
She could feel Rangiku flush against her back again, her thigh landing significantly between her legs, scalding hot against herself, and as if anticipating her actions, Rangiku’s mouth was against her ear.
“Go on, baby. I know you want to.”
She was so unbearably smug about it, so certain Soifon would behave like a mindless animal and it should have bothered the Captain a lot more about how absolutely right Rangiku was about her right now. Panting hard, she started grinding back against Rangiku’s leg, up and down, back and forth, eyes screwed shut tight as she savored the feeling of pleasantly warm, firm skin against her exposed nethers. She could feel herself ready to come in no time, even before Rangiku’s hand slid down between her legs and began rubbing furiously against her achingly hard clit, and her panting became a string of hiccuping gasps.
And that was before Rangiku’s other hand slipped into the space of her dress that allowed easy access to her breast, squeezing and kneading it roughly even as she pinched and teased her nipple.
Fuck.
It felt like she was rolling from orgasm to orgasm, nonstop, their bodies rutting together and Soifon’s own howling now so loud they were almost certain to get a noise complaint from the hotel’s other patrons.
“God, you look so fucking good like this,” Rangiku breathed between ravenous, biting kisses, starting in a broken constellation line from shoulder to spine to neck to ear, tongue slipping in as if to tease where she’d marked her. “Just a mess. An absolute fucking mess. All for me. I bet no one’s ever seen you like this, hmm?”
She didn’t seem particularly interested in an answer, and Soifon would have been hard pressed to give her one regardless.
No. Almost nobody. And never quite like this, needy in a way that would have made her ashamed the second she could be coherent enough for it.
When Rangiku was satisfied (in the heat of a particularly brutal peak for Soifon, which she seemed to indicate by biting hard into her neck to accompany her violent shaking) she finally pulled away, punctuating the moment with a hard, quick kiss to Soifon’s forehead before leaving her in shambles on the bed, eyes lidded and breathing labored. She could barely move, forcing herself to focus on the clock sitting on the nearby bed stand, even though her eyes felt so unfocused the number there was incomprehensible. It was a ‘break’ that in Soifon’s stupor felt more like a lifetime before Rangiku appeared again, and all Soifon could do was stare, some reaction tumbling out of her mouth that barely counted as speech.
Rangiku’s dress was now gone, revealing her flawless bare body, aside from the bright pink strap-on she now wore, punctuated with silver rings and studs along the harness. The smile she gave Soifon was positively predatory as she sat down on the bed, coyly nudging Soifon aside just enough to lay atop the covers, her head cradled by the mountain of decorative pillows at the headboard.
Her dildo, slightly translucent and clearly molded with glitter-filled plastic, wobbled lewdly as she found her position but remained upright.
“Well, I would say I’ve been going easy on you,” Rangiku quipped, finger propped against her chin in mock thoughtfulness. “...But now I think it’s only fair you work off the rest of what you owe, don’t you, Captain?”
As utterly wrung-out as Soifon felt, she nevertheless forced herself up on shaky arms, unsteadily pulling her other leg up to the bed’s surface, and began the slow crawl to Rangiku– a distance that felt like miles but truthfully, even at her agonizing pace was made in minutes at most. She paused upon straddling Rangiku’s hips, gazing transfixed at the length of her chosen implement.
Soifon was definitely going to feel this later.
Placing a hand on Rangiku’s belly to stabilize herself, Soifon put all her effort into raising her hips higher, higher, until she was hovering just over the tip, adjusting it with her free hand to ensure Rangiku slid into her with minimal effort. She felt Rangiku’s hands– slightly calloused, but far softer than the average zanpakuto-wielding member of Soul Society might otherwise be– resting on her thighs as she mentally prepared to work herself down, and as she felt Rangiku enter her, they simply rested there, as true to her word she seemed more than content to let Soifon do as much of the work of this part as she possibly could.
The head seemed to rest neatly on the spot deep inside Soifon that made her see stars and her breathing flutter, and for a long moment all she could do was sit on top of Rangiku, hands on either side of her waist, eyes screwed shut tight as she tried to begin properly.
It was the sudden feeling of Rangiku’s hand on her neck, index finger stroking the rim of her ear while she smiled lazily up at her, that snapped Soifon out of her trance and with great effort, she began to slide steadily up before carefully sliding back down, setting a rhythm punctuated by her own moans as she gradually picked up speed.
True to her word, Rangiku seemed perfectly content to let Soifon fuck herself ragged atop her, save for roaming hands that might rise to cup her breasts through her now-ruined dress or drop to sporadically play with her clit, gleaming and wet in the moonlight. After a while (and several of Soifon’s own orgasms), Rangiku sat up to support herself on her hands, pulling Soifon back with her so she could lean comfortably against the mountain of pillows at the headboard. Forcing herself to keep pace, Soifon’s hips continued to bounce and roll against Rangiku, and yet her upper body was helpless to stop itself from collapsing against the taller woman.
Soifon’s face was against Rangiku’s shoulder, buried partly into her nape as she breathed hard against sweaty, sticky skin, her ever-present perfume hitting her like a dense fog, arms clinging desperately to bicep or back or anywhere she could find purchase. And in spite of Rangiku’s demand, something about Soifon’s own desperation seemed to have made her forget about letting the petite Captain do all the work, and she began to enthusiastically meet Soifon with her own energy, the pair grinding and melting together as Rangiku’s hands greedily took her in in her own turn.
It was here, Soifon breathlessly announcing her last, greatest peak that Rangiku kissed her– hard and deep and hungry, and the last conscious thing Soifon was aware of was kissing her back, hands cradling her face.
—
Rangiku, Soifon had noticed, seemed to have a talent for sleeping through anything.
Sunlight was pouring through the open windows of the suite– Soifon herself had been awake for at least an hour– and yet Rangiku was still dozing, bedsheets wildly askew as she laid sprawled across the bed, her half-removed strap-on unhitched but laid limply in a bundle near her thigh. Even as worn out as she’d been, Soifon at least had enough energy to clumsily part herself from her own dress before going out like a light.
She’d intended to get up earlier, but one of Rangiku’s arms had seemed to land atop her in the night, and while almost any other time she’d have simply moved it and started with her early morning routine, she couldn’t make herself do it this time. Even knowing there was work waiting for her back at Soul Society, she had just… laid there, staring at Rangiku, quietly fascinated even as she had drool pooling on her pillow, snoring open-mouthed.
There was some small part of her that wanted to touch her– just casually, the way she had become accustomed to Rangiku doing to her– to trace the line of her jaw or the shell of her ear, push aside the lock of copper-gold hair obscuring her eye. Casual intimacy like that had never been something she’d been comfortable with before, being a nonexistent part of her life.
And yet here, right now, with her… it felt maddening. Compelling.
But with Rangiku herself announcing her own awakening, by means of a sudden, swift smack on Soifon’s rear, a rare moment of clarity for Soifon vanished just as surely as she gave her own surprise away with an inhuman yelp and nearly jolting out of the bed.
Rangiku didn’t realize it, but it was her own deep, echoing self-satisfied laugh that persuaded Soifon to let it go, at the cost of her own dignity.
“S-sorry,” Rangiku managed jovially the moment she’d calmed down enough to speak. “Couldn’t resist.”
A pointed ‘hmph’ was all Soifon could offer as rebuttal. That and a weak hand pressed against Rangiku’s face.
“So… you wanna tell me what that was all about last night?” Rangiku asked smugly, sincere curiosity mixed in. “I know I’m irresistible, naturally… but I’ve never seen you like that before.”
Soifon was aware, somehow, of Rangiku’s arm around her, having pulled her in closer. When had that happened, she wondered idly.
“...I don’t know,” Sofion admitted, after a long, thoughtful pause. “I… I’m not exactly proud of how I behaved. I just…”
“You just?”
“... I missed you. I suppose.”
She had muttered it, face buried in the pillow, suddenly deeply anxious about looking Rangiku in the face as she said it.
Rangiku said nothing, and her embrace didn’t falter. Her fingers had begun to draw little circles, around and around, on a space of Soifon’s back, keeping themselves occupied. It was a habit of hers, sometimes, when they had the time to simply be in bed like this.
“...I’m sorry about… about the date,” Soifon managed after another long pause. Her own hand was resting on Rangiku’s stomach. Despite the rarity of casual contact on her part, Rangiku did not say anything to point it out. “I know you put a lot of work into it, planning it.”
“Hey, don’t worry about it,” Rangiku said warmly. “I really didn’t spend nearly that much. Besides, getting to see a side of you like that ? Totally worth it.”
They were quiet for a long moment, before Rangiku placed a gentle kiss on Soifon’s forehead, staying there afterwards as if she was silently taking her in. Soifon didn’t dare look up. Even as bold as Rangiku was, something like this felt wholly different from anything else they’d done together.
She wanted to stay in this bed for the rest of her life.
“Actually, I almost forgot…” Rangiku gently drew herself from Soifon before getting out from between the sheets, bending over into a pile of her belongings near the nightstand. After a moment of shuffling and muttering to herself, she produced a small box, poorly wrapped in red paper, with a cheery “ta-da” as she extended it out to the Captain before leaping back into bed with her. “I know it’s technically not the holiday anymore,” she elaborated as Soifon looked up with confusion, “... but Happy Valentine’s Day!”
Even with the events of the evening past them, Soifon couldn’t help but stare at the box, stunned. Carefully, without a word, she unwrapped it, finding the sloppy tape seams and tearing them with ease. Finally, lifting the lid, she found a small pile of chocolates.
Well, four of them, to be precise. Wearing the telltale uneven quality of being made by hand.
No one had ever given her Valentine’s chocolates before. And the one time she’d tried to give them to… someone else, she’d been rejected. Hardly room for positive association for her.
“T-thank you,” Soifon managed, carefully finding her voice enough to say it. It shouldn’t be getting her feeling this… emotional, but here she was hoping she wasn’t going to start crying and make this moment uncomfortable. Taking one of the pieces between her fingers, regarding it carefully, there was nothing left for Soifon to do but take a bite.
Which she immediately gagged on, coughing up a storm.
“Dammit, I could have sworn I’d cobbled together the edible ones,” Rangiku muttered as Soifon continued hacking her lungs out, finally forcing the bite down her throat, face screwed up unpleasantly.
“S-salty…” Soifon spat out, once her coughing had died down, though even that was an understatement. Clearly, the ratio of sugar to salt that had gone into Rangiku’s batch had gotten reversed during the preparation phase. Rangiku was no chef– certainly no one in Soul Society would have disputed this– but nonetheless she seemed rather annoyed and frustrated. She had tried hard, sincerely, to make these properly.
“Here. I’ll toss the rest,” she declared, reaching for the box even as Soifon held it. “I knew I should have just started another set, but the timing–”
To their mutual surprise, Rangiku was cut off as Soifon leaned forward, kissing her.
She held it for long enough that Rangiku began to awkwardly kiss her back, before she pulled away slowly, Rangiku blinking in shock and Soifon herself chasing for words, eyes darting about the room as if hoping she’d find them.
“I… want to keep them… if that’s alright. They’re… they’re perfect.”
It was rare indeed for Rangiku to be left tongue-tied, speechless between the two of them, but finally she responded, looking a bit uncharacteristically shy for her part in the moment.
“S-sure. Of course.”
The energy of the room felt strange all of a sudden, a feeling that had become more and more common between them of late. This… arrangement of theirs had been going for a while now, their lives occupying each other’s in a hundred small ways they had begun to take for granted. But every now and then there was simply this… need to be close. Not even for sex, necessarily, but simply to be together, even in spite of everything they had laid out, every mutual agreement that this was simply a comfortable convenience.
Sure, Rangiku had gone to all this trouble, made these chocolates that Soifon genuinely adored, obvious flaws and all, but she was fairly certain this was simply part of her nature. Doting and affectionate and thoughtful, as she was with her friends in all other cases.
But… what if she meant it to be more than that?
What if, in spite of how holding out for Yoruichi had left her bitter and disillusioned with the mere idea of opening her heart to another person ever again… she wanted it to mean more than that?
No. She couldn’t trust that. Taking her feelings at face value was how she’d gotten to this point in the first place. Rangiku had been burned as well, chasing love that had gone nowhere, and that’s why this worked for them. She didn’t need to overthink any of this.
And yet.
And yet–
“We should go. It’s almost check-out time.”
Soifon had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn’t realized Rangiku had already started to get dressed; her back turned as she put on some jeans from a backup outfit she’d apparently planned in advance.
“Y-yes,” Soifon agreed, staring quietly at the lines and curves of Rangiku’s back for a moment before considering she’d been a fool to not prepare similarly. The state of her dress was… not exactly fit for the public anymore. Being careless, it seemed, came with the territory of being involved with Rangiku.
So the dropping of a set of clothes– a simple t-shirt and shorts, in her size– on the bed surprised her.
“Just had a feeling,” Rangiku answered to her unspoken question, and Soifon managed a quick ‘thank you’ before getting dressed herself.
“So,” Rangiku said as they approached the elevator, tone apparently light and jovial once more as if to break the tension, “...since you accepted the chocolates, you’re going to spoil me on White Day, yes?”
In spite of herself, Soifon just smiled at her. A rare, warm, sincere one, the kind she’d been long without.
“Hmph. Don’t worry. I’ll be more than prepared for the occasion.”
Hitting the call button, Soifon missed the look Rangiku gave her in turn, before the doors opened with a ding.
