Work Text:
Giyuu knows he’s not very liked, Shinobu reminds him everyday. “But Sanemi…” he goes to argue “oh come on” she doesn’t let him finish “Shinazugawa was only helping you out because you’re a dummy who always forgets to take his heat suppressants.”
“But we’re …” Giyuu pushes further but again Shinobu interrupts “not even a mated pair! Am I right?” Giyuu just looks at her with a resigned expression “he hasn’t even given you a mark yet, I guess he’s just not that committed.”
Giyuu just nods, more so to himself and walks away. If he doesn’t walk away now, she’ll see the tears gathering in the corner of his eyes and never let him live it down.
He does his best to ignore Obanai snickering and muttering the words “lonely loser” before receiving a scolding slap over the head from Mitsuri.
He’s almost made it all the way to the headquarters gates when Rengoku runs up to him, grabbing his shoulder. “It’s okay Tomioka” he reassures “don’t listen to them, I’m sure Shinazugawa cares, he’s just …” the man isn’t sure himself how to finish that sentence, so he just goes with “it’ll all work out in the end.”
“Thank you” Giyuu attempts to give him a smile, he knows Rengoku means well and appreciates the effort, he continues his walk back to the water estate.
He wonders if Sanemi is home, he has to pass the wind estate on his way home anyway and he could really use some comfort from his alpha right now. Sanemi’s scent of black pepper oil, patchouli and vanilla always helped him when he needed to calm down.
Sanemi always held him so tenderly when he needed it, allowing Giyuu to take in every bit of him, so why did Shinobus words weigh so heavily on his mind? Does Sanemi even care? Was he only helping Giyuu out for now because he felt obligated? Would this only last until he found another, better, prettier omega that he’d like more?
Giyuu is so lost in thought that he doesn’t see the fallen branch in front of him until it’s too late, he trips over it and falls head first into the ground, smacking himself right on the head. He quickly sits up and brings his hand to his head, blood! He’s bleeding from the wound in the middle of his forehead.
Next thing he knows his ears are being invaded with the sound of Uzui’s laughter as the tall man stands before him, pointing and laughing “oh my goodness Tomioka! That fall was incredibly flashy! Wait until the others hear about this!” He cries out.
He doesn’t help Giyuu at all, instead just walking right by him while laughing and shaking his head. Giyuu just watches him leave as he sits pitifully in the dirt, hot tears rolling down his cheeks.
He stands and walks off the path a bit, finding a tree to sit under, curl up into himself and try to calm down. God he could really do with Sanemi’s sweet scent and strong arms around him right now.
That would be good right now and just what he needs, but his intrusive thoughts get the better of him and he thinks maybe it’s better if he doesn’t ask Sanemi of that from now on. He decides it’s probably better to not bother Sanemi at all anymore.
He’s slowly beginning to calm down and it’s getting a little hot out, he rubs his forehead, covering his hand in blood from the fall and sweat. He was sure to pick a shady spot, so he doesn’t know why he’s feeling so warm all of a sudden, maybe cuddling up in bed would make him feel better.
He gets up and finishes the journey home, resisting the urge to bother Sanemi as he passes by the wind estate.
He stumbles into the water estate and goes straight to the bathroom to clean himself up, once he’s done cleaning the wound he doesn’t bother covering it and instead decides to run a quick warm bath.
He doesn’t spend too much time bathing though, it was hard to relax when he had to keep turning on the cold water tap to cool the water down as he increasingly felt overheated.
He steps out and wraps a towel around his waist, though he’d set out a yukata to dress in, he felt the urge to wear something that belonged to Sanemi.
He’s spent about half an hour searching, Sanemi’s left clothes at the water estate before, he does all the time, so where are they all now?
The reality of Shinobus words begin to set in as Giyuu realises, Sanemi took all of his things back, shinobu was right! He tells himself, maybe Sanemi really isn’t committed to Giyuu after all.
What does it even matter? He tells himself as he dresses in his own yukata if Sabito was still alive, I’d be his omega instead anyway, he would’ve never treated me this way!
Great! Now he was upset about Sanemi and Sabito! He settles under the blankets of his neatly made bed, but after a few moments, he feels too hot so he kicks off the blankets. It just doesn’t feel right, he gets up and begins to rearrange everything on the bed, carefully and thoughtfully placing the blankets and pillows as he pleases.
Once satisfied he throws himself down, but it’s still not enough, he needs Sanemi’s scent close to him, to comfort him. Even better would be Sanemi himself but the alpha is not here at the moment and took everything back and nothing here smells like him. Giyuu will just have to settle for his incomplete nest for now. He turns on his side, huddles into himself and sobs into the pillow.
He tries his best to calm down but nothing works, he had a shitty day, his alpha may not even be his after all, his nest in incomplete, he’s overheated which could only mean one thing since he has forgotten to take his heat suppressants lately and to top it all off, his head still hurts like hell.
He gives up caring, he guesses he’ll bother Sanemi one last time, just one thing to keep to tie him over until he can get over the alpha for good.
He gets up from his nest and without even changing he leaves the water estate and beelines straight for the wind estate.
It’s quiet when he arrives, knocking on the door and waiting for Sanemi to answer. After a few moments of convincing himself that the man just isn’t home right now and isn’t purposely ignoring him, he walks around the back, just like Sanemi had told him to if he wasn’t home.
He guesses he could just take one thing, he’ll give it back and apologize later. He sneaks into Sanemi’s bedroom and searches for a pile of worn clothes, nothing! Everything is cleaned and doesn’t smell enough of Sanemi, he looks to the bed and finds something even better.
He throws himself down onto the pillow and cuddles it into himself. The scent of Sanemi invading his senses and he’s already beginning to feel better. He guesses he should head back home now but a few more minutes in Sanemi’s bed couldn’t hurt.
~~~~~~~
Three days! Three whole days since Sanemi slayed lower moon one, his second lower moon within the last two months and saved a whole town from the demons destruction and not a single bit of recognition or a well done from any of his co-workers.
He fought for four nights to slay that damned demon and her damned cursed demon minions and not even anyone from the town even cared or noticed. Sure they didn’t even realize that they were in any danger and sure he doesn’t do this for the gratitude and recognition but a little bit of appreciation goes a long way.
Just a week prior, Uzui was holding a big celebration for defeating a demon that wasn’t even a member of the twelve kizuki. That guy would celebrate literally anything if he got the chance, but what pissed Sanemi off even more was Uzui’s comment as he walked in tired and ruffed up from the battle with lower moon one. “Slacking off again, Shinazugawa?” The man teased as he laughed loudly through the halls of the butterfly estate.
Sure the man was known to be a bit of a dick who liked to rile him up for the fun of it and Sanemi should just listen to Obanai when he tells him “ignore him, he’s only joking around to piss you off, you’re only giving him what he wants when you get angry.”
Sanemi was certainly feeling angry, he couldn’t help it and to make matters worse, his omega wasn’t around to make him feel better. After a long tiring battle and a shitty week, nothing settled him better than cuddling Giyuu into his arms and breathing in his sweet omega scent of water lily, coconut and pineapple.
It was all Sanemi could think about right now, it’d been over a week since they’d seen each other and Sanemi is missing him immensely, wanting nothing more then to have the other at his side right now. He’s been feeling horrible all week, before leaving on his mission he’d taken all of his clothes from Giyuus place, he was running out of things to wear and they were needing washed, he’d already left for his mission when he realized he’d left nothing behind for Giyuu.
Sanemi had suspected that Giyuu was forgetting to take his suppressants again and it was likely nearing that time, Giyuu will need him soon.
“Oh that’s right!” Uzui bellows right next to him “I saw Tomioka do the flashiest thing today” this gets Sanemi’s attention “I was just wandering around as I do when I saw Tomioka, in a daze as always, trip on a branch and land straight onto his forehead, I swear I laughed so much I almost peed myself!”
Sanemi just stares back at the taller man “and you didn’t think to check if he was okay?” He questions “Shinazugawa, you should’ve seen the flashy stream of blood running down his face, the whole thing was glorious!”
Sanemi is about to pop a vain or two. “You mean to tell me that he was bleeding from his head and not getting back up and you just left him there on his own?” He spits out furiously as Uzui continues to laugh “oh come on Shinazugawa, he’s a hashira, he can handle himself and besides, I didn’t completely forget about him, I’m here now to let Kocho know so she can check up on him.”
“Don’t bother” Sanemi spits out as he turns and leaves in a hurry, his omega needs him immediately and he can deal with Uzui another time.
Fortunately he makes it to the water estate in record time, unfortunately he doesn’t find Giyuu there at all. He worries as he stands over the nest Giyuu has made, the nest empty of anything belonging to him and even to the alpha, it feels wrong and incomplete.
He decides to go look for him but first he pulls off his haori and carefully places it over the nest, trying his best to not disturb it but certain Giyuu won’t mind, he leaves it there just incase Giyuu returns while he’s out looking for him.
He decides to first check headquarters and on the way there he spots a branch in the middle of the path, right by it, a small splotch of blood as he bends down to inspect the scene and gets a very faint whiff of Giyuus scent, his anxiety begins to rise. Unfortunately he didn’t find Giyuu at headquarters, he already knows he’s not at the butterfly mansion. Of course! Sanemi thinks, in his rage and worry, he didn’t even think to check his own estate.
He runs all the way there, bursts through the wind estates doors, calling out his omegas name and soon finds what he’s looking for.
Curled up on his stomach and snoring peacefully in his bed is Giyuu, the omega is cuddling tightly onto Sanemi’s pillow and has his long, dark hair down loosely.
Sanemi’s heart thumbs with his chest at how cute his little omega is but soon panic sets in as he sees the blood covering his forehead. “Fuck! Giyuu?” He pulls Giyuu up and into him “sweetheart, are you okay?” He asks softly and concerned as Giyuu slowly blinks his eyes open.
Giyuu gives him a small soft smile before tears burst from his eyes and he begins to sob into Sanemi’s chest “darling it’s okay, I’m here now” the alpha reassures, hoping that he can calm the omega down.
Between sobs Giyuu moves his nose up to Sanemi’s neck, taking in the scent he’d been craving so much and soon the man begins to settle as he nuzzles at Sanemi’s neck. Sanemi holds him closely, beginning to feel calmer himself.
“I’m sorry” Giyuu murmurs timidly into Sanemi’s neck “for what?” The white haired man questions.
Giyuu covers his face more and blurts out “For coming here without your permission and falling asleep in your bed, for always bothering you and clinging to you all this time when you probably don’t even want anything to do with …”
Sanemi stops him right there and pulls him up by his shoulders so they’re face to face with one another and corrects him “listen to me, you have nothing to be sorry for, do you understand? I want you Giyuu, I want to be with you, I swear! Don’t ever think that you’re nothing to me because you are everything!”
“But we’re not officially mated yet and you took all of your things back” Giyuu points out.
“I’ll admit I was unsure at first” Sanemi explains “but I’ve done a lot of thinking and I’m certain now, I want you to always be mine and I was just running out of clothes to wear, I’d meant to leave something behind it’s just that it was a lower moon and I needed to hurry, I forgot”
“Really?” Giyuu looks back at him, hopeful “really! Fuck, Giyuu I’m so sorry” Sanemi pulls Giyuu back into him as the omega questions one more thing “it’s okay but why are you mad?”
Sanemi shakes his head, Giyuu is so good at reading what’s on his mind “Giyuu, what the hell? You hit your head and likely gave yourself a concussion, then you went to sleep without seeking medical attention first! Don’t you realize how dangerous that is!” He explains.
He brings a hand to Giyuus still bleeding wound “shit Giyuu! You really got yourself good!” He then stands pulling the other up with him “we can cuddle later, I’m taking you to see Kocho right now!”
Giyuu doesn’t argue as he follows Sanemi back to the butterfly estate, Sanemi doesn’t once let go of Giyuus hand.
True to his word, Uzui had informed Shinobu of Giyuus little accident and so she was ready, waiting for him. She gives him a light slap over the head for not coming straight to her before treating him while Sanemi refuses to leave his side or let go of his hand, making her job more difficult.
As the pair leave the mansion together the alpha takes his omega by the waist and leads him away “Sanemi?” Giyuu gets his attention “yeah? What is it?”
“Can we go back to my place?” He asks in his sweet little voice that Sanemi just can’t say no to, especially while remembering the nest Giyuu has waiting “sure, anything you want.”
When they make it back to the water estate, Giyuus eyes almost bulge right out of their sockets. During the afternoons drama he hadn’t even noticed that Sanemi wasn’t wearing his white haori, it instead lay carefully placed across his nest, obviously left there by none other than Sanemi himself.
He feels warm tears roll down his cheeks again but this time, they’re not sad tears, they’re happy tears, Sanemi really did care about him, he jumps into Sanemi’s arms “thank you Nemi.”
He lets go and crawls into his nest as Sanemi watches, once settled he rolls over onto his back and reaches his hands out to his alpha.
Sanemi carefully crawls onto the bed and over Giyuu, leaning down to give him a soft gentle kiss “you’ve been slacking on your suppressants again, haven’t you?” He asks as he pulls away, feeling how warm Giyuu was “… maybe” the dark haired man answers.
“How long do you think you have until it hits?” Sanemi questions, Giyuu looks off to the side thoughtfully “maybe a day” he answers.
“Good” Sanemi replies “that means we can have more time to cuddle!”
And so they spend the rest of the evening enclosed in each other’s arms within the nest. Giyuu pulls off the rest of the clothes from Sanemi’s body to place around, handing him one of his own yukata to wear for now.
They comfort and take each other in and Giyuus worries are settled when Sanemi assures him with softly spoken words “you’re mine Giyuu, and I’m yours, always” this is the happiness Giyuu has been hoping for all along.
But before he closes his eyes to sleep, he has one more thing to say “well done on defeating lower moon one” he congratulates Sanemi, at least someone finally said it!
