Bite-Sized Love

Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Rise an' Shine

Chapter Text

‘SOFT.’

Black felt soft all around him. Strange, wasn’t he in an alleyway? Maybe he was in a dream of some kind? His gloved claws clutched at something far bigger than him. It was as if his whole hand was engulfed by the fluffy thing! Blearily, the scarred bitty opened his sockets.

“WHAT THE..?” Black sat up. He’s awake now.

Black’s eyelights scanned the room before him. Gaudy works of art were strewn about the room, a vanity far away from him was filled with many scent bottles. He stared at the extravagant bed he laid on. A snore caught him off guard, looking to his left was his brother, Mutt, tangled in the velvet red sheets. Well, at least his brother was safe. Black cupped his chin in contemplation.

‘MAYBE SOMEONE FOUND US, AND DECIDED TO TAKE US IN?’ The thought didn’t seem too far off.

Black started to giggle. “HA! AND THAT FAILED BABY BLUE SAID WE’D NEVER BE ADOPTED! TAKE THAT, YOU ASININE BI-”

“It is way too early for ya ta be yellin’ this much.” Mutt covered himself with the blanket, before sitting straight up, shock faced.

“Wait a min’, where are we? ” He turned to his brother.

“I BELIEVE WE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED BROTHER!” Black said smugly.

“How?”

“SOMEONE MUST HAVE HEARD US IN THAT DREADFUL ALLEYWAY AND PICKED US UP.”

“What ‘bout those other guys?”

“SEEING AS THEY AREN’T HERE, SAFE TO SAY WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES.” Black practically preened.

Of course he and his brother were picked over those ugly bitties, they weren’t as amazing as him and Mutt. He and his brother were obviously the better, more dynamic duo out of the pair of bitties. Now, even though they were never formally adopted, who cared about that now, right? Who cares if they were kicked out of their own bitty center because no one wanted them?

Certainly not you he hopes.

Mutt was gleaming at this new opportunity. Finally, a chance to be adopted, wanted by someone, worth something! “Ah, t-that’s great, Black! We finally did it.” He stuttered from the overwhelming excitement.

“BUT OF COURSE, BROTHER. IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE SAW OUR GREATNESS.” Black posed dramatically.

Mutt let out a small, raspy chuckle. “Course, cus’ yer the best, bro.”

Black gave a short huff. “OF COURSE I’M THE BEST-”

A deliciously enticing smell interrupted Black from his incoming tangent. The scent was sweet with butter and maple. Smells that neither brother had smelt for a very long time. In that moment, they began to notice just how hungry they were. They were dangerously low on energy, when was the last time they had a proper meal? Before the pair could dwell on their shared thoughts any longer, they heard the door open with a soft click . The bitties peered at the newcomer. A beautiful person stood in the door-way, their features painted in concern. This was the person who saved them? Did they get lucky or what! Your eyes quickly found the bed and the two bitties on it. You quickly crossed the room in simple, easy steps.

“Good morning, how are you two feeling? Hopefully, not hurt. I found you guys in an alley-way, and brought you here. Hope you don’t mind!” You had bent over to look at them more on their level.

Mutt felt magic rush to his cheekbones, stars, your voice was hot-

It was smooth, rich, and full of concern for him and his brother. Your words sounded like music to the younger brother, similar to a symphony or a lullaby. Glancing to his brother, Mutt could see the small traces of a blush present on Black’s face. Ultimately, Mutt steered his gaze back onto you, who was patiently waiting for a reply from one of them. The silence stretched on, until Black cleared his throat.

“AHEM, HELLO. I’M BLACK, AND THIS IS MY BROTHER, MUTT. WE ARE VERY PLEASED FOR YOU RESCUING US.” Black bowed as if he were in a play.

Mutt in turn, raised a hand. “H-Hi there…” Shit he stuttered!

Black raised from his bow to glare at his brother, giving him the ‘DON’T MESS THIS UP FOR US.’ look. However, any tension between the two quickly dissolved at the sound of your tumbling laughter. Stars, it sounded nice…

“Hehe, nice to meet you two! Since I can’t properly shake your hands, you wanna settle for this instead?” You placed your pointer finger in front of the brothers for them to shake.

The bitties glanced at each other, then your hand, then at you. Black was the first to cautiously approach the finger. He grasped it firmly in his gloved hand(or at least the tip), and shook.

The scarred bitty looked down, abashed. “AGAIN, THANK YOU…”

You giggled as you brought your hand back. “Course, dude. Couldn’t leave you guys out there in the rain! You coulda died.” You quirked a brow, of course you weren’t gonna let some little dudes fend for themselves in the rain. “Now c’mon, let’s get you guys something to eat, and then we can get you cleaned up afterwards, if you’d like.” Your smile practically beamed at the two skeletons.

You softly set a hand down for the bitties to walk onto. The edgy pair hesitantly stepped onto your hand. You gently cooed out a small ‘thank you’ to them, making them slightly flustered. They’ve never received this kind’ve treatment before. You were so kind to them, they couldn’t help the rising blush to their cheekbones. You spoke softly to them, asked if they were okay, and didn’t even yell! Now, you were going to feed them?!

“This day jus’ keeps getting better an’ better, don’ it?” Mutt muttered softly to his brother.

The eldest nodded with a sharp smile. He was so happy that he and his brother could finally belong somewhere! It was a short walk to the kitchen, the edgy duo looked around curiously. The kitchen was nice, it had a bunch of hanging plants strewn about the place, and even more so in the living room. There was an island in the middle of the kitchen, and a low coffee-table in the living room in front of the couch which faced the TV near the front door. The two bitties looked onwards to the kitchen island. On it were two pairs of plates filled to the brim with either small pancakes or waffles, there was even different syrup flavors with a small assortment of fruit on the side. Was that for them?! Were they allowed to eat all that? The brothers looked gobsmacked by the sheer amount of food in front of them.

Looking down at them, you giggled. “Y’know, you don’t gotta eat it all if you don’t wanna. I just made a bunch cause you guys looked starved.” You set them down onto the island, where their food waited patiently for them.

Immediately, the duo went for the waffles. They didn’t even ask for any plates or anything, they just dived( literally ) headfirst into the waffles, taking giant chomps of any waffle that came across their path. You let out a hearty laugh. Oh stars, these little dudes were that hungry, huh? You tried to slow down your giggles.

“H-Hahaha, You want any syrup with that?” They looked up at you, sockets wide with embarrassment at their little display of hunger. However, when that embarrassment faded, they hastily nodded their heads in support for strawberry syrup. “Okay, move a little so it doesn’t get on ya.” Flicking open the cap, you poured a generous amount onto the waffles before them.

Mutt and Black chewed on their delicious food. Was this heaven? Have they ascended? Were you a god because you sure felt like one to them. Black looked over at the plate full of tiny pancakes, were you going to eat those? Because he knew for certain he wasn’t, not after these amazing waffles.

Seemed like Mutt had the same idea. “Hey, are you gunna eat those pancakes?” He asked.

You looked surprised, then relaxed back into an easygoing smile. “Nah, those are for the other two.”

That immediately broke the edgy duo’s happy energy.

“THE OTHER TWO?!”

“There’s more?!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shifting the blankets and pillows away was a very sleepy Stretch, who was happy to simply go back to sleeping on the nice, soft bed below him. However, it was because of the bed he was currently laying on that he got up in a dazed panic. Stretches skull whipped around the room for his brother, Blue. How, what, when, where- Oh, there’s his brother, just sleeping away in those cozy blankets. He breathed a sigh of relief. Now, where exactly are they? After moments of his silent pondering, Blue rose from the fluffy covering.
Blue raised his arms above his head, and let out a relaxed groan. Then he properly opened his sockets. Frantically looking around, his eyelights landed on Stretch. “Brother, Where Are We?!” Blue stressed. What happened while he was asleep?!
Blue was silently panicking at the new environment, while Stretch slowly put his thoughts into words. “I believe… We’ve been given a second chance, bro.” The hoodie-clad skeleton said as hope twinkled in his eyelights.
Blue’s panic halted to a glimmering realization. A second chance… Stars enveloped his lights, and a giant grin spread across his face. “YesyesyesyesYESYESYESYESYES! STRETCH, WE DID IT! WE, FINALLY, DID IT!” Blue jumped onto his brother, and caged him in a tight, comforting hug. Light blue tears hung at the edges of his sockets, he was so happy.
Stretches sockets weren’t clear either, cream orange tears lightly strayed down his cheekbones. They finally got their second chance after being on the streets for so long. Only having each other for survival, staying alive in pursuit of a purpose, but never finding it. But now, they can! They can have a purpose again, a reason to live. They just can’t mess it up this time. Stretch buried his skull into his brother’s shoulder, and gently hugged back. Small hiccups enveloped the room, but the two were ultimately happy. After a while, the two let go of each other, both showing soft smiles. Well, more like one lazy grin, and the other a giant show of teeth.
A small realization came to Blue. “Where Do You Think Those Other Two Bitties Are?” Stretch looked around the bed, no other bitties were to be found, just them.
“If I had to guess, probably still in that alley.” Stretches grin didn’t fade as he guessed the whereabouts of the other, more edgy, bitties.
Blue simply let out a small huff in response. “Honestly, Good. Those Two Were So Rude!” The older brother crossed his arms, an annoyed tone lacing his words. The two bitties they had met that night were just the rudest little things he’d ever met! It’s no wonder he and his brother were rescued, and they weren’t. Who’d want rude, unkept, and selfish bitties when they could have Blue and his brother? Clearly, they were the better option.
Stretch simply chuckled at his brother’s words. “Yeah, those two sucked. Still, hope they don’t die or whatever.” Blue glanced back at his brother.
“I Don’t Wish Death On Them Either.”
The soft duo looked around the room, curious eyelights inspected every inch of the room they resided in. Just lots of little knick-knacks and a stained table of sorts(?). The brothers were incredibly curious about all the papers spread about on the desk, but they didn’t want to snoop through their new owner’s things. As soon as they were getting bored, the door in front of them opened with a gentle click. Out came a human, who looked mildly confused, but mostly concerned. And by the stars, they were handsome! This must’ve been the human who helped them. Blue could feel a light amount of magic flush his skull. Stretch could already feel himself burning up slightly. You had such kind, sincere eyes. As soon as your eyes landed on the pair of brothers, you walked up to the bed, a small smile on your lips.
You softly sat down on the bed they currently sat on. “Rise and Shine, are you two feeling well? I found you guys in an alley-way, so I brought you here to recover. I hope you don’t mind.” You spoke warmly towards the bitties. Your voice reminded Stretch of honey, sweet and smooth.
Blue could feel his blush worsening, and it seemed Stretch wasn’t fairing any better. Your kind concern and voice weren’t helping them in the slightest. However, Blue shook himself out of his flustered state.
He needs to be a proper bitty!
“Hello, ahem , I Am Blue. Over There Is My Brother, Stretch.” Blue pointed towards his brother, who simply waved, not trusting his voice.
You didn’t seem to care for his lack of verbal greetings though, you simply set a finger down in front of them. “Nice to meet you, Blue and Stretch! Since you can’t shake my hand, we’ll have to settle with just my finger.” Your words were sincere.
The skeletal bitties glanced at each other, then at your finger. Why were you treating them with such kindness? Speaking gently, asking about their wellbeing, even going so far as to shake their hands? The two bitties shook your finger with slight hesitation. Repeating the same process as before, you invited the soft bitties to breakfast to which they happily accepted. The skeletons that now stood on your hand were silently bursting with happiness. They get to have food that you made! However, as soon as you entered the kitchen, the soft duo spotted something unsightly
Their joyous mood immediately went out the window.
Blue deadpanned at the edgy bitties in front of him. “Nevermind, I Wish Death On Them.” He muttered to his brother. Stretch silently agreed.
You set the brighter duo onto the kitchen island, completely unaware of the rising tension between the different pairs. You simply nudged them towards the pancakes. “These are for you two. Would you guys like any syrup? Fruits?” You smiled sweetly. Oh, bless your soul. You were too kind.
Stretch nervously piped up, “Could I have Honey-Maple syrup, please?” He let out a small sigh of relief. Good, he didn’t stutter.
“Of course!” You popped open the bottle cap, and poured a charitable amount of the sweet syrup. “There you go. I’m gonna be gone for a moment, but if any of you need me, just yell.” You quickly bid the bitties goodbye. The brighter duo watched you leave, offering their own farewells.
Your form swiftly retreated to the room Blue and Stretch awoke in. While Blue would have been more curious to what you were doing, he had more pressing matters to attend to . Namely, the two unwanted bitties in his new owner's house. Blue turned to glare at the Raspberry and the Mutt a few feet away from him and his brother. The Raspberry simply returned the glare at full force.
Blue spoke first, “Care To Explain Why You're Here?” He tapped his foot impatiently. His voice was lower than normal, he couldn’t have you hear him speak so rudely.
The Raspberry just scoffed, so the Mutt responded instead, “This is our new home.”
Stretch was the one to speak this time, “That can’t be true because this is our new home.” His tone was annoyed. He was not about to lose his second chance to some bitties who had no place being there.
“Well, too bad. We were rescued too.” Black spoke lowly to the bitties in front of him. How dare these failed pieces of trash talk down to him and his brother! If you weren’t in the next room, he would have already dusted them where they stood.
Mutt was confused why they were even there in the first place. Ah, wait, he could probably make a guess. You must’ve rescued all of them that night. Stars, you really were too kind if you were letting failed bitties into your house. As much as he wanted to marvel at your kindness, he was pretty annoyed by the Baby Blue and the Lil’ Bro currently talking down to them.
“Well, Leave!” Hissed the Baby Blue. Black’s anger spiked. Who did he think he was?!
“No, and I will not let a lowly cur talk down to me or my brother!” Black’s rage was slowly getting the better of him, controlling his voice and actions were getting harder and harder by the second.
“Hey, don’t speak to my bro like that!” The Lil’ Bro scowled. Mutt’s socket twitched. Oh that does it!
“Then, don’ speak to my bro like that either!” Mutt’s claws twitched in his pockets. Maybe he could dust them right now. Perhaps, he’d be able to convince you that they left of their own free will? Or he could make them look bad in front of you, so you’d kick them out-
“Hey guys, I’m back!”
