Leo was looking past his brother. Staring at their last hope. It wasn’t stabilizing. Mikey was almost out, and it wasn’t stable. Dread pooled in his stomach.
Mikey looked back, and straight into Leo’s eyes.
There was fear. Fear and something else. His brother looked around to the monsters, then back to Leo.
And he shook his head. Slowly. Sadly.
Then looked back to the unstable portal.Leonardo felt like he was going to throw up.
The portal stopped trying to be stable. It started contorsioning, like trying to escape Mikey’s grasp. Flakes of his baby brother were everywhere. And as the portal shined brighter, and a ominous humming sound came from it, Leo understood what his brother was trying to say.
Just as Mikey disintegrated, Leo tackled Casey to the ground.
The portal exploded.
