Kiss Cam

Summary:

The Weasley twins set up a Quidditch Kiss Cam and it points to Harry and Draco. That's it.

Notes:

Hello! :) So this is my first time writing a fic and I am so excited! I got this idea off of something I saw on pinterest and couldn't stop thinking about it. Please let me know what you think in the comments! <3

Work Text:

Ron grumpily sat down next to Hermione and shoved a blueberry muffin into his mouth. “Good morning to you, too.” Hermione said, glancing at the boy who swallowed a whole muffin without chewing.

“Sorry, I’ve just been getting pestered all morning.” Ron mumbled sleepily as he ate another muffin.

“What for?” Harry asked.

“Everyone wants to know what my brothers set up in the Quidditch field for tonight. I don’t know how many more times I need to tell people I don’t know before they get the idea and buzz off.” Ron complained.

The Weasley twins were known for causing trouble around Hogwarts, so when they got approved to set up a new experiment of theirs in the Quidditch field, it got everyone curious. They’ve been setting it up for a week now and tonight was the debut.

Quidditch matches always got the school hyped, especially if it was a Slytherin versus Gryffindor matchup like tonight. Only this time, everyone was excited to see what this mysterious new contraption was the Weasley twins had set up. There were rumors, of course, but the twins had been unusually quiet recently. Whatever their device was, it was meant to be a surprise.

As Ron and Hermione got into a debate over table manners, Harry caught himself staring at the Slytherin table. If anyone asked, Harry would lie and say he was trying to scope out their plans for tonight’s game. The real reason Harry was staring was because a familiar blonde boy had just arrived.

Harry watched as Draco ate his breakfast and talked with his friends. He didn’t know when his mild interest with Draco had developed into a full blown crush, but it was clear as day now. When Draco looked up, he locked eyes with Harry. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Harry turned away, his cheeks as red as the apple in his hand.

---

The crowds were roaring with excitement before the match even started. Harry stood with the rest of his Gryffindor team as the Weasley twins flew to the center of the field on their brooms.

“Look how excited everyone is!” Fred yelled, his voice barely audible above the cheering. “We now what you’re all here for!” Fred continued, pointing to some form of screen set up. “How about you explain it to everyone, George?”

The screams got louder as George began. “Taking inspiration from a muggle tradition, the Weasley twins are happy to bring you-” he paused, keeping the audience on their toes “The Quidditch Kiss Cam!”

The screen roared to life as it zoomed over the crowd. It appeared to be hooked up to some sort of camera, but Harry had no idea how it worked.

“The Quidditch Kiss Cam will randomly go off during the match,” George began explaining, “It has been specially designed to only pick people close to each other who have the most chemistry.”

Fred smiled as he picked up the explanation, “And even better, the device will not choose another pair until the previous pair kisses.” Shouts of excitement echoed through the stadium. Harry wondered if anyone was even interested in watching the Quidditch match anymore.

“But not to worry, the magic only chooses people who both fully want each other. Even if it is subconsciously, the magic does not work unless you both consent.” George finished the explanation and the crowd managed to get even louder. “And with that, let the Quidditch match commence!”

---

The match began, but Harry could tell nobody was paying attention. Everyone’s eyes were locked onto the Kiss Cam screen, waiting for it to choose it’s first target. As the Slytherins were about to score, the screen flashed on, locking onto two Ravenclaw girls. The audience screamed, and Harry watched as the taller of the two girls turned and kissed the other on the cheek. The screen remained on them for a another minute, before shutting off again.

So a kiss on the cheek is enough, Harry thought. He was left thinking of who the screen might pick for him if he was sitting in the audience.

A few minutes later and the screen flashed back to life, shining directly at Ron and Hermione. Harry laughed to himself as Ron’s face turned bright red. Hermione turned and gave him a kiss, looking only slightly embarrassed at the end.

Before Harry could watch anymore, he spotted the Golden Snitch flying in his direction. He took off after it, with a familiar boy right behind him. Harry knew Draco was a good seeker, but Harry never lost a game of Quidditch and didn’t plan to today.

The crowd began to cheer again, and Harry hoped it was because of his and Draco’s battle and not whatever the Kiss Cam was doing.

Harry was catching up to the Golden Snitch, reaching his hand out but missing ever so slightly. Draco came up directly next to him, also reaching his hand out to retrieve the Snitch. They raced next to each other, neither of them able to get any closer than the other. Finally, Harry was able to inch ahead and secure his fingers around the familiar golden winged ball.

But before Harry could celebrate, him and Draco were crashing into each other. At the speed they were going, and being so close, there was no avoiding the collision. The two boys fell off their brooms and landed on the ground together, their brooms a few feet away.

The silence in the stadium confused Harry. Shouldn’t everyone be celebrating Gryffindors victory? Surely everyone wasn’t worried about it Harry or Draco were hurt, the fall wasn’t far at all. He wondered what could possible make everyone go so quiet. When Harry sat up, he got his answer.

Looking at the Kiss Cam screen, Harry recognized himself sitting on the ground with Draco next to him. He was frozen, completely shocked. Harry knew he liked Draco, but for the device to do this, Draco had to like Harry back, right? Surely this was a mistake.

Draco finally got up, and his eyes locked onto the screen instantly. They sat there quietly, staring at the screen and then each other. “Got something you want to confess, Harry?”

“Seriously? You’re joking at a time like this!” Harry was shocked. Leave it to Draco fucking Malfoy to make jokes when Harry was having an internal crisis.

“You and I both know the only way to get this camera off of us.” Draco said, turning around to face Harry completely. Harry’s face blushed, and he saw that Draco’s did as well.

“Well if it’s-” Harry tried to speak, but Draco cut him off. Their lips connected, and Harry parted his slightly. Their mouths danced together and Harry let out a soft moan when Draco slipped his tongue into Harry’s mouth.

Finally, they separated. Harry wished he was alone with Draco, not sitting on the floor of a silent Quidditch stadium with thousands of students watching them. Finally, someone broke the silence with a cheer for Gryffindors win.

Soon, the stadium was erupting and Harry couldn’t help the smile on his face. He saw the Kiss Cam shut off, and before Harry had to go back to his locker room, he turned back towards Draco.

The blonde was smiling up at him, “My room later?” he asked, giving Harry a wink.

Harry was only able to nod before he was being hauled off with his teammates.
