Chapter Text

‘From enemies to friends, the road ahead long but well worth taking.’

The Wookiee was sitting at the back of the Marauder. His head hanging and clearly fearing for his life at the very moment. After all, these were all clones. Mostly as far as he could see.

“He needs to eat.” Omega was already on it bringing the Wookiee a ration box. “Please, it’s good.” She opened the lid of the box.

The youngling stared at the food for a moment as if it was poison.

Omega made the effort of showing him it was okay to eat. Picking one from the selection and waving it in front of the Wookiee. “See, is all good.” She smiled before taking bites of the bar herself.

The Wookiee glared at her for a moment and decided to risk it. And then in no time digging into the offerings with gusto.

“I am Omega. What’s your name?”

The Wookiee growled in his native tongue while munching into the food.

“My Wookiee is a bit rusty, but I think he said his name is Gungi.” Hunter told the rest of them.

They were all there, sitting and looking at Gungi eating. Even if he had relaxed somewhat they could all sense the defences being up for the Jedi youngling they now knew Gungi to be.

“Any ideas why they were selling him?” Echo asked seeing Tech engulfed in the data he had managed to download from the Vanguard database.

“Well, there is something here about cloning in the same file. But the data is mostly encrypted and I have only managed to decrypt a few parts of it.”

Having already managed to figure out the buyer being imperial. They all realised Gungi would not be safe being a Jedi and all having already been captured once. The imperials being aware of his existence now.

“Hunter, we need to protect him. Take him somewhere safe. Hide him from the Empire.”

Echo was once again bringing up the same fact. That they needed to do more for others in trouble. And this, saving a Jedi was as good of a start as any.
Hunter sighed, reluctant to continue on this age old topic between him and Echo.

“We cannot risk it…”

Hunter was cut off by Tech just then.

“I would suggest that Echo is right. Our best bet is to bring Gungi to a safe place. Far away from the Empire.”

Gungi, having been seemingly concentrating on his food, had been listening into the conversation. And what he was hearing now made him take the first step towards trusting the clones.

He made a noise, speaking again in his native tongue.

“Tech?” Hunter turned to see Tech was translating still.

“He says that he has been trying to make his way back to his home. Kashyyyk.”

“The Wookiee home world.” Wrecker noted. “It’s been a while since we’ve been there.”

“We should take him there.” Omega was eager enough to aid Gungi as well.

“The Empire might already have bases there.” Echo reminded the others.

“What do you suggest we do?” Hunter asked him then, reluctant to start a fight of the same old issue. The Empire. After all, they were trying to help someone at the very moment weren’t they?

Echo looked surprised though. As usually, his objections fell on death ears where Hunter was concerned.

“Well, we should take Gungi back to his own people and if there is trouble there, we should help.” Simple as that, right?

Hunter simply glared at Echo for a moment. Then his glance wandered to his team members starting from one moving on to the others. Seeing the hopeful looks on all their faces. All of them ready to fight the good fight clearly.

“Fine.” Hunter let out a soft sigh. He was outnumbered after all. “Gungi. Looks like we are taking you back home after all.”

Gungi let out a noise which sounded like he was happy enough about what he was hearing. And he totally was. As perhaps he could trust these different clones after all.
