Chapter Text
It took four hours for rescue to come for Cody.
He’d managed to take out the droids, and stumbled to somewhere safe, but by that point, he’d been shot at least six times, and it took everything he had just to set off the charges. He was sitting just past the treeline, his eyes beginning to droop. Everything felt far away, hazy.
Cody thought of Obi Wan, and that hour by the late.
He wished he’d had more time with him. Even with Cody’s shortened lifespan, there should have been more time. He wanted more time. He wanted more moments like what happened on the clifftop, he wanted more warm nights spent simply holding each other in bed. For the first time, Cody felt anger.
Anger at the Republic, anger at the Separatists, anger at the battle droids that had likely just taken his life. It burned almost painfully in his hazy mind.
As he slipped out of consciousness, that anger was not quenched.
Cody slipped back into consciousness, and was met with his favorite pair of blue eyes.
“How’re you feeling?” Obi Wan asked softly, cradling Cody’s jaw.
Cody leaned into the touch.
“Better,” he said. “Since you’re here.”
“I’m sorry I left you alone there, love.”
“S’okay, you’re safe, all that matters.” Cody slurred, “Stay.”
“I am.” Obi Wan reassured, running his hands through Cody’s curls.
And Cody dropped off again, finally safe and warm.
