Chapter Text

10 months and 12 days later

Whatever self-serving imbecile invented wizarding formalwear Draco wanted to have a stern chat with in the Forbidden Forest. He was already adjusting his collar for the fifth time since the ceremony alone. He'd nearly cried in relief when Potter had suggested the groomsmen go for a Muggle-style trouser but unfortunately the wizarding collars were nothing short of a nuisance. Draco had witnessed Potter himself adjusting it several times throughout the ceremony although, whether from nerves or discomfort one couldn't be sure.

Still, it was a beautiful ceremony. The newly wedded She-Potter had eyes only for Harry as she marched down the aisle to some horrendously peppy tune Molly herself must have selected from Celestina Warbeck's greatest hits. The crowd was small and beloved, although ample security had to be hired to keep out press. Draco himself had overseen most of it and was feeling rather smug about not having seen a single flash during the first kiss. Thank Merlin too, Potter looked like he was going to swallow the bride whole.

Not that Draco could blame him, of course, as he'd been eyeing up the maid of honor for most of the evening. He'd have to thank She-Potter personally for the sultry blue thing Hermione was sporting. She was a vision and heaven help him, Draco couldn't wait to get his fiancée alone later. Hermione sodding Granger was his fiancée...he still had a hard time believing that.

"It'll be you next, huh?" Harry had found him lurking by the bar.

"Cheers, mate." Malfoy raised his glass to the man he considered his best friend. "As long as I don't screw it up before then."

Harry laughed good-naturedly. "Can't argue with that..." Beat. "But for what it's worth, I think you're good for each other. You round her out and she doesn't let you get away with shite."

Draco nodded. "Can't argue with that." However nonchalant he appeared to be, inside Draco was bursting. He'd never thought much of weddings, not having enjoy the few stiff pureblood affairs he'd been to in his youth but as he looked around and thought about his own upcoming nuptials...he was a bloody shmuck. He wanted everything. The gowns, the sodding tiny platters of food, the annoying music, ice sculptures shaped like swans, the flowers...he wanted it all with Hermione. Every blasted thing. He'd never thought he'd see the day and he'd be damned if it wasn't the most over-the-top celebration the wizarding world had ever seen. Of course with his Mother involved in the planning, there would surely be no comparison.

"Hey, tell your Mum for me Gin loves the florals. She did an excellent job." Draco nodded before locating his witch amongst the dancing guests. Hermione had the idea, brilliant as she is, for his Mother to start a florals-by-demand business for parties and events. Narcissa adored her rose garden and it was the perfect task for her to take in extra cash while still abiding by her House Arrest. If Draco hadn't already been in love with Hermione before...

"Ferret, I see you've been keeping my husband!" Red had found them amidst greeting the slew of Weasley guests.

"Take him, he's of no use to me." Draco offered and the newly minted Mrs. Potter snorted.

"Oi, and to think I almost let you be best man!" He shook his head as Potter embraced his wife.

"We both know that's Ron's rightful place." Draco tipped his drink back before taking a step.

"Hey, Draco?" Red had stopped him by grabbing his arm. He couldn't have hidden his surprise if he'd tried.

"Er, Ginerva?" All three parties grimaced.

"You're right, better stick to what we know Ferret." Potter nodded aggressively as Red continued. "I just want you to know I'm glad you're part of the family and all that." She waved a hand. "To be a part of all this."

"I'll pretend that's sincere and not just because I'm footing half the bill for your honeymoon to Cabo."

She-Potter smirked. "Hell yeah! Least you could do."

"Thanks mate." Harry held out his hand and Draco knew it wasn't just for their upcoming travels.

"Thank you, Potter." He shook the man's hand being reminded of a situation not-too-similar so long ago.

"Alright, alright." Red grabbed her husband. "Enough of this, I refuse to cry in my makeup!" And without further ado, the newly wedded pair made their way to the dance floor.

"Thank god, I thought they'd never leave." He spun around to find Hermione with a mischievous smile on her face.

"Hoping to get me alone, were you?" His hands easily found her waist.

"Perhaps later..." She wriggled her brows and the action went straight to his groin. Merlin, his witch. "But I was hoping to steal you for a dance?"

"My lady." He bowed dramatically before offering her his hand. She shook her head at his antics.

Moments later, they found themselves gracefully moving to a soft tune with other couples lost in love.

"The wedding went perfect, don't you think? I've never seen Harry so happy..." He followed Hermione's eyes towards the wedded couple lost in their own world.

"That'll be us soon, Granger."

Hermione beamed at him. "Draco Malfoy is a softie at weddings...will wonders never cease!"

He purposely squeezed her waist earning a tiny squeal from the witch in his arms. "What are you on about, I'm bloody terrifying."

She rolled her eyes before resting her head on his chest. "Sure, sure." Her head was buried in his shirt. "It's okay though, I like all your edges." His heart melted a little as he pulled her ever closer.

There in his arms was a woman he'd loved longer than he'd hated. A woman who'd driven him mad with jealously, brilliance, and her spectacular whit. Whatever absurd situations had led them to this moment he couldn't thank enough, the truce, her forgiveness, him finding a little courage...it was all worth it. To have friends, to have a family and have Hermione Granger in love with him, his fiancée in his arms...life was better.

Draco couldn't imagine anything better.
