Legend of Liri

Chapter 50: What Lies Inside

Chapter Text

Chapter 50
What Lies Inside
Naru, Jayra, and Rhonyn all looked off the edge of Vah Medoh. “I don’t see them!” shouted Jayra to Tulin.
“Well we are flying all over the land of Hyrule,” said Tulin, “we just have to be patient.”
“Don’t worry Jayra,” said Rhonyn putting his hand on her shoulder.
“Yeah,” said Naru, “Avilon and Teron are the toughest of the group I’m sure they can hold on, Eesa and Katori will absolutely have each other’s backs, and Liri and Elos are the future of Hyrule they’re perfectly capable of taking care of each other.”
Katori knelt down next to a gravestone she had made. She put the Boulder Breaker leaning up against it. The gravestone read, “HERE LIES EESA… A WARRIOR
STRONG AND TRUE.”
“I thought I might find you here,” said a voice behind Katori. Katori turned around quickly and picked up the Boulder Breaker. “Who’s there!” she shouted. A small Yiga girl crawled out from behind a tree. “Katori?” she said. The girl had torn shredded clothes and had three scars on her shoulder. “Should I know you?” asked Katori.
“My name is Hera,” she said, “and no you shouldn’t… I’m… insignificant.”
“No wait I believe those two blademasters mentioned you,” said Katori, “you’re the girl that tried to train with them.”
“Yeah… that…” said Hera, “listen I know you changed and well… I was wondering if you could help me… I don’t think I was ever supposed to be part of the Yiga clan… and well… I know you left for a reason.” Katori sat silently and then ran up and hugged her. “I… I… never thought that anyone would follow,” said Katori with tears in her eyes. Hera hugged Katori back and cried as well. Memories of Gydri and Asho and Dinaru flooded back in her head. “I’ve been here for a while now Gydri… why can’t you trust me with a bigger task!” she shouted at him in the memory. Asho and Dinaru scoffed and laughed. “YOU!” said Dinaru, “you’re a weak pint-size girl… you’ll never be able to handle the stuff we have to do.”
“TRY ME!” she shouted.
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” shouted Gydri as he sliced her shoulder with his sword. Hera fell to the ground and looked up at Gydri. Asteriae then walked in dressed like a Yiga Clan member. “Gydri,” she said, “you asked to see me?”
“Yes, I did,” said Gydri, “wait just outside.” After Asteriae left Gydri, Asho, and Dinaru looked back down at her. “Now,” said Gydri, “you will respect me and my decision… isn’t that right.”
“I just don’t think it’s fair to—” Hera started but Gydri cut her shoulder again before she could finish. Hera grabbed her shoulder and then looked at the blood on her hand. “Now…” said Gydri. Asho and Dinaru laughed with each other. “Do I have your respect,” said Gydri. Hera got up and tried to run away but Asho and Dinaru grabbed her. Gydri cut her shoulder again. “I want to hear you say it,” he said right in her ear.
“I… I…” stuttered Hera.
“You’ll go back to the others,” said Gydri, “I don’t want to hear another complaint out of you.”
“Yes, Master Gydri,” said Hera. Asho and Dinaru dragged her out and Gydri let Asteriae in the room.
Hera got out of her memories and hugged Katori tighter. “Gydri’s gone now,” said Katori. Hera knelt down and cried. Katori touched Hera’s scars on her shoulder. “I can see he hurt you,” said Katori. Hera looked away. “It’s okay,” Katori said, “he hurt me too.” She picked Hera up. “Come with me,” said Katori, “you can redeem yourself… it’s never too late to do the right thing.”
Jayra, Naru, and Rhonyn flew over the plateau where Teron and Avilon were. Jayra looked down. “There are people down there!” she shouted. Naru went to where Tulin was and told him to fly down. Vah Medoh landed on the plateau. Teron and Avilon looked over at the divine beast. Jayra, Rhonyn, and Naru came out to greet Teron and Avilon. “What happened!” said Jayra looking at Avilon.
“She got burned in the fight against the sorceress,” said Teron. Rhonyn walked up and used Mipha’s grace on her. “This is bad,” he said, “if we would’ve gotten here sooner I could’ve healed her completely.”
“Is she gonna be okay!” asked Jayra concerned.
“She’ll be fine,” said Rhonyn, “she’ll just have some scars.” Jayra and Teron sighed with relief. Rhonyn and Jayra helped Avilon walk into the Divine Beast. Teron and Naru followed behind. Vah Medoh then flew off to find Katori.
Jayra held Avilon’s hand as Rhonyn used the healing powers on her. “Come on Avilon,” said Jayra, “wake up.” Naru and Teron stayed looking out on the top of Vah Medoh. “You know Naru,” said Teron, “you know how when you’ve been through a lot with someone… you… well… you know…”
“Spill it out Teron,” said Naru, “you like Avilon?”
“What no,” said Teron, “I was talking about this group… I’m so glad we all met… we’ve been through so much together and I hope the ten of us will continue to stay together after this.”
“Oh yeah,” said Naru, “Teron I’m really sorry… but Kelson’s dead… he was shot by the two blademasters and then killed by a Lynel.” Teron’s heart sunk down. He grabbed his chest and knelt down. “He died fighting,” said Naru, “even after he got shot and his wing burned and he lost all flying abilities he kept fighting.”
Teron hugged Naru and cried into his shoulder. Naru looked down. “Oh, I see them,” said Naru.
Katori and Hera looked up and waved at Vah Medoh in the sky. Vah Medoh landed. Naru and Teron came out. Katori and Hera ran up to them. “Katori!” said Naru and gave her a hug. Katori shed light tears. “Where’s Eesa,” said Teron as Katori looked up from the hug at him. Katori closed her eyes and shook her head. “Oh,” said Teron in realization. Hera walked up to him. “Hi,” she said, “I’m Hera.”
“Uhh hi,” said Teron.
“Oh uh… this is Hera,” said Katori, “she’s coming with us.”
“Oh, okay then welcome aboard,” said Naru. The four of them walked back onto Vah Medoh.
Vah Medoh then landed in front of Hyrule castle where Elos was still crying over Liri. Everyone came out of Vah Medoh. Elos stood up and walked over to Tulin. “Rito Champion Tulin,” said Elos, “a pleasure.”
“Liri’s dead,” said Elos.
“Dead…” said Katori, “so is Eesa… and Kelson.” The other three Divine Beasts approached Hyrule Castle to join Vah Medoh. Inside of each were the remaining soldiers. They all came out and gathered in front of Elos and the piles of malice. Elos took a deep breath. “People of Hyrule,” he said, “I know we have just won a great battle and we have lost many good men and women… Rito, Hylian, Gerudo, Goron, and Zora… but with the help of everyone we can rebuild this kingdom back to what it once was… Liri was the Princess of Hyrule, but more importantly, she was my sister… and I want her memory to be one with honor and dignity… we will make her proud.”
Link and Zelda came out of the crowd. “Elos,” said Zelda. Link and Zelda stood next to Elos. “Elos,” said Zelda, “all this time we’ve ruled and were worried that you and Liri wouldn’t be able to handle the responsibility of the throne… but now I see we were wrong… you’ll be a better ruler than we ever were.” Elos wiped a few tears and looked over at Link who nodded silently. He smiled proudly and hugged both his parents tightly.
All the people ran into the malice and began cleaning it up. Elos turned around to see Rhonyn and Jayra helping Avilon limp off of Vah Medoh followed by Teron, Naru, and Katori. “My friends…” said Elos as they all embraced. Hera looked out and smiled at the group hug. Katori looked up at her and signaled for her to come over. “So, everyone,” said Katori, “this is Hera.” Hera waved. Avilon pulled her arm out from around Rhonyn. “I’m Avilon,” said Avilon.
“Oh yeah,” said Hera, “I heard a little bit about you from Eesa… you’re that girl that got her fingers broken by Asho and Dinaru.”
“Oh yeah… that,” said Avilon sadly.
“Those two hurt me too,” said Hera, “I have those scars too… we really are alike aren’t we.” Avilon smiled. Suddenly four Royal Guard soldiers approached Elos. Elos remembered Liri introducing them to him in the castle training yard. “Hey Elos,” said one of the girls.
“Oh, uhh Pisha is that it,” said Elos. Pisha nodded. “I guess I should apologize… for before… I thought of you as just a love option and you didn’t deserve that… but I’m different now… I’ve learned what love is and it’s all thanks to Liri,” Elos said.
“Don’t give your sister credit for something you accomplished yourself Elos,” said Pisha, “Liri and I were friends… but I will admit you definitely seemed to have grown up a lot.” Elos smiled. “Pisha,” said one of the other Royal Guards, “come on let’s get going.”
“Well see you around Elos,” said Pisha.
“Yeah see you around,” said Elos smiling and waving.
A few days later Rhonyn, Jayra, and Naru all went back to Zora’s Domain. Naru stood in front of everyone and Divine Beast Pilot Lula handed him the crown. Naru looked over at Jayra and Rhonyn on the sidelines. The two of them smiled at him and nodded. Naru took a deep breath. “This crown was supposed to symbolize that I was ready to be a leader,” said Naru, “A leader and ruler is someone who protects people and makes them happy to live where they are… a ruler also cares about freedom… making sure they live not just survive.” Jayra looked at him nervously. “If you want the honest truth,” said Naru, “I am not a leader… I never have been… it wasn’t what I was made to do with my life.” The Zora people all began to whisper among themselves. “I know what you all are thinking,” said Naru, “I’m running away from my duty and denying the Zora people the good leader they deserve, but I’m not… I am going to give you a good leader… It just won’t be me.”
Jayra looked at him with wide-open eyes. “Jayra,” said Naru looking over at her. Jayra walked over. Naru handed her the crown. “I think this belongs to you,” said Naru. Jayra looked down at the crown and then at the Zora people. “Naru I don’t know,” said Jayra.
“Jayra you’re the leader these people need,” said Naru. Jayra remembered all the times she led the team from the plan she made in the jail cell in the Yiga clan hideout to the time Liri’s shoulder was injured and she led the team to the time she inspired the Zora people to fight after Naru threw the crown. Jayra looked at Naru and then at Rhonyn. She then put the crown on her head. “I officially hand over the throne to Jayra, Queen of the Zora, may she lead us with honor and strength,” said Naru. The Zora people applauded.
“What about my duty as the Zora champion,” said Jayra. She then remembered all the times Naru used sheikah tech from his temporary magnesis to the invention of stasis plus plus to the beacon of light during the final battle. “Naru…” said Jayra, “you’re gonna be the next Zora Champion.” Naru nodded and Lula put her hand on his shoulder. Naru stood next to Jayra. “Zora of Zora’s Domain,” announced Jayra as she held Naru’s hand and lifted it up, “your new Zora champion!” The Zora people applauded loudly. Jayra then looked over at Rhonyn and signaled him to come over to them. She raised his hand up as well and the three of them bowed.
“What will you do now Rhonyn,” asked Naru.
“Well I figured for someone who likes to play with sheikah tech so much,” said Rhonyn, “and a divine beast that constantly needs repairs… I could make a good sheikah tech lab on top of that hill where that lynel once was.” Jayra and Naru smiled and nodded happily.
Katori and Hera returned to the Yiga clan hideout. Katori proclaimed Hera the new leader of the Yiga clan and she decided to move them all out of the desert to Kakariko Village and become a part of the sheikah tribe again.
Teron went back to the stable and put his giant backpack back on and decided to go back to being a traveling salesman. Avilon went back to Goron town and Yunobo had packed her bags ready to let her move to Gerudo Town. Avilon hugged him and then as she turned to leave she turned around and hugged him one more time before she left.
Katori left Kakariko Village and went to the Great Hyrule Forest where she informed the Great Deku Tree of Majora’s Mask and of the final spirit of the skull children. She then decided to stay in the forest and live with the koroks because they had the spirits of the skull children as well.
Several months later, Avilon sat down in her new bed in Gerudo town she picked up her noble pursuit drink and took a sip. “Ahhh,” she said, “this is the life.” Suddenly, she heard someone knock on the door. She put the noble pursuit down on her nightstand. “Whoever's here this better be important,” she said walking to the door.
She opened the door and saw Jayra and Katori outside. “Well well,” said Avilon, “if it isn’t the queen of the Zora people and the Sheikah with the spirit of a skull kid.”
“Hey Avilon,” said Jayra giving her a big hug.
“Nice place,” said Katori.
“Thanks, it’s mine,” said Avilon. Jayra sat on her bed and picked up the noble pursuit on her nightstand. “Ooo a noble pursuit I love these,” said Jayra.
“Go for it,” said Avilon. Katori sat down on a nearby couch. Avilon smiled and sat next to her. “So, made any new friends?” asked Katori.
“Quite a few actually,” said Avilon, “not that they could ever replace you guys.” Katori smiled and looked at Jayra who finished drinking the noble pursuit. Jayra put the empty cup back on the nightstand. “Well uhh we’ve got a surprise outside,” said Jayra. The three of them walked just outside Gerudo Town. Elos, Naru, Rhonyn, and Teron were all standing outside. “Naru!” said Avilon as she walked up and hugged him. Avilon let go and walked up to Elos. “Your majesty,” she said bowing.
“Okay seriously I know I’m the king now but you guys don’t have to call me that,” said Elos.
“I know,” said Avilon, “it’s just fun.” She walked up to Rhonyn and the two of them hugged. “Thank you so much for everything Rhonyn,” she said. She then looked over at Teron. She touched his shoulder. “Avilon I—” he began but then she pulled him into a hug.
“I missed you too Teron,” she said. She pulled out of the hug. “So why are we all here,” said Avilon, “Don’t you guys have jobs to do?”
“I put my mom in charge,” said Jayra, “she’s been so bored lately since she retired… she needed something to do.”
“I’m sure Pisha can handle being queen for a few days,” said Elos.
“Okay but why are we getting the old group back together,” said Avilon.
“Well first off why not we’re friends right?” said Jayra.
“And I brought Vah Ruta just next to Mount Naboru,” said Naru.
“Don’t you see Avilon,” said Elos, “we’re going on another adventure.” The seven of them then walked into the distance towards Mount Naboru. The ghosts of Eesa, Kelson, and Liri looked down on them from Mount Naboru. Eesa jumped on Kelson’s back and flew off. Liri smiled. “My legend has ended,” said Liri, “but that doesn’t mean it’s over… it can still continue with someone else… I’m proud of you Elos you’ve grown so much… and with you, my legend continues.”
