The Roaring Moon was flying fast! There was no way they’d be able to make it back to the city before it on foot. Luckily they don’t have to go on foot. “Miraidon, let’s go!” Florian yelled out, releasing the robot dragon and quickly climbing on its back, Iron Valiant doing the same, “We gotta stop that thing!” he commanded, pointing towards the rapidly shrinking primaeval Salamence. Miraidon took off at full speed to catch up.
They were soon upon the Mezagoza’s South Entrance, and they watched as the Roaring Moon flew over into the city proper. Not having time to waste pushing the gate open, they crashed through it instead. It’s an emergency, I’m sure they’ll understand. Once they were inside they saw the ancient beast breathing fire at the ground as it made its way towards the Academy. “Iron Valiant, Moonblast!” Florian called out, so it leapt off Miraidon’s back gathering moonlight in its chest spike and launching it at the beast. The attack lands square in its back, causing the Roaring Moon to fall to the ground. It shakes itself off rather quickly, but instead of continuing its path towards the Academy it turns to face its assailants. Iron Valiant lands with grace as Miraidon pulls up alongside it, Florian dismounts and grabs all the Poké Balls off his belt and yells “Let’s go, everyone!” and sends out all of his Pokémon, each one ready to confront the dragon. But its eyes weren’t on them, its full focus was on Florian.
Roaring Moon dove into a low glide, headed straight for Florian when Lycanroc stepped up in front and braced for impact.
The wild Roaring Moon used Zen Headbutt!
The attack crashed into Lycanroc’s raised guard, but the Wolf Pokémon refused to budge even an inch.
Lycanroc used Counter!
Its paw connected with the dragon’s jaw and knocked it into a backwards roll. Florian seized the opportunity to throw an Ultra Ball. Roaring Moon was sucked in and the ball dropped to the floor, only to break open again without shaking. “Dang, it broke free!” the trainer grumbled. There was no time to recuperate, Roaring Moon was readying another attack. “Spread out!” he called out and his Pokémon did just that, although some faster than others.
Dondozo was struck by Roaring Moon’s second attack as it still wasn’t entirely sure what was happening, but thanks to its sheer bulkiness it wasn’t too phased. The Past Paradox looped back around to locate its prey again.
Dondozo used Order Up and leapt into the air with elegant poise before slamming Roaring Moon back down to earth. Before it could recover, Meowscarada used U-turn and landed a solid kick to its head before jumping back to switch places with Grafaiai. Grafaiai used U-turn as well, sending Roaring Moon skidding across the floor towards Ceruledge’s waiting blades.
Ceruledge used Psycho Cut!
It doesn’t effect the wild Roaring Moon...
The wild Roaring Moon used Night Slash in retaliation sending the Fire Blades Pokémon careening into a wall, unconscious. “Ceruledge, return!” Florian called out and recalled his Pokémon, also regrabbing Roaring Moon’s attention. It, once again, flew at Florian, so the boy slid underneath it, narrowly avoiding the dragon’s claws and escaping untouched. Mostly.
“My hat!” he cried out. Roaring Moon had caught it during its swings and proceeded to tear it to shreds. “Really rather rude.” he admonished. It responded by breathing fire at him. In the blink of an eye, Miraidon rose up and transformed into Ultimate Mode. Miraidon used Power Gem and the ray of light collided with the flames, neutralising both and the tide of battle shifted.
Miraidon’s Hadron Engine
Miraidon turned the ground into Electric Terrain, energising its futuristic engine!
Iron Valiant’s Quark Drive
The Electric Terrain activated Iron Valiant’s Quark Drive!
Iron Valiant’s Speed was heightened!
The wild Roaring Moon used Dragon Claw and started charging for Florian again, but Iron Valiant leapt in between them with its boosted speed and body blocked the attack, taking no damage thanks to its Fairy typing. “Now, Close Combat!” Florian called out, and the Future Paradox pummelled Roaring Moon before sending it back with a swing of its blade. Florian used the opportunity to throw a Dusk Ball at the Primal Pokémon. It was sucked inside and the ball dropped to the floor.
It shook once…
Twice…
And then the sun rose and the beast broke free.
“Aargh! Almost had it!” Florian complained. However, the Roaring Moon was definitely weak and breathing heavily. And still focused on Florian which was good. For everyone other than him.
Ceruledge recovered from fainting and reappeared on the battlefield. Then Florian had an idea, “Alright! Let’s hit it all at once guys!” Everyone cried in agreement, so the trainer started giving orders. “Iron Valiant, Close Combat! Lycanroc! Reversal, Dondozo Wave Crash! Ceruledge Bitter Blade! Grafaiai, Poison Jab! Meowscarada, Flower Trick and Miraidon use Electro Drift!”
Each Pokémon charged forward and landed their attacks one after another. Electro Drift struck last and created a huge cloud of smoke so everyone fell back to wait for it to clear. Before it did, the Roaring Moon shambled out. It was battered, beaten and barely conscious, not even having enough energy to fly. Instead it dragged itself across the floor, eyes locked on Florian still. He gently tossed a Timer Ball at it and waited.
It shook once…
Twice…
A third time…
And it clicked shut.
Florian and his Pokémon all stood still, not quite daring to breathe lest something absurd happens. Eventually Florian exhaled and picked up the ball. He held it out and declared “I just caught a Roaring Moon!” as his Pokémon erupted into cheers behind him.
“What are you doing?” three voices questioned and caused them all to jump in shock. The trainer turned to see his friends in various states of both confusion and relief. “You were gone for a whole day!” Arven exclaimed while Nemona grabbed him by the shoulders and asked “Where were you? Were you attacked?” Penny poked her head around from behind Nemona and asked “Where’s your hat?”
It took him a second to remember how to speak to people but he eventually answered, “Uhh… The lighthouse, technically yes and Arven is standing on its shredded remains.” They all looked down and saw shreds of fabric around Arven’s feet. “That’s rough, buddy.” Penny told him. Arven stepped aside and then questioned “How did you spend all day at the lighthouse?” “Can I explain this elsewhere? It’s not really the type of thing to casually discuss in public.” Florian explained. “Si, of course! Director Clavell would also like a word with you.” Nemona cheerfully announced, although Florian’s first thought after hearing “Director Clavell” was “Uh oh.”
---------------------------------------------One Pokémon centre and Office visit later---------------------------------------------------
“So it turns out Iron Valiant was trying to warn me about this ancient Pokémon called Roaring Moon that was coming. It took me to Professor Turo’s lab in Poco Path Lighthouse to show it to me, which took a lot longer than I expected, and then when we left Roaring Moon was just right there ! Then it started flying towards Mesagoza and I was all like ‘we gotta stop that thing’ so we chased after it, it got to the city first and started burning things so we blasted it out of the sky and started a battle where it was more focused on attacking me than anything else. I caught it and then here we are.” Florian capped off his explanation with, “That should also explain the broken gate, craters in the floor and walls, smashed furniture and scorch marks all over the city.”
Everyone present stood in silent shock at Florian’s reckless bravery and lack of self preservation. Clavell was the one to break the silence “That just leaves the question of where this Roaring Moon came from.”
“Maybe dad’s time machine reactivated somehow?”
“There are some Pokémon that can control time! Maybe one brought this one back?”
“What if it was just…a one off case? This one just happened to have survived in an isolated ecosystem?”
“Maybe things are about to get WILD!”
So far, no one’s theory has been proved correct but Florian’s theory about something wild happening was proved incorrect, as nothing of note happened for several weeks. Unless you count him getting a new hat.
