Sixteen Years

Chapter 22

Summary:

The end.

Notes:

Good morning human and humanoid frens! How goes it?

Welp, this is it everyone, we have made it to the end.

As stated last week this is more of an epilogue than anything else, and it jumps at the very end to like almost ten years in the future.

I’ve had fun writing this, even with the annoyance that was writers block and not being able to post consistently, and I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading this!

I’ll probably end up writing more MDZS fics, so keep an eye about for those in the future, even though there’s no telling if or when they might happen lol.

Anywho, y’all just like me know if y’all like it, hate it or wanna change it, and happy reading!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Jin Ling chose to spend the next two years living with his parents and his little sister in Lanling, though he was given the option to stay with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in Yiling so as to not disrupt his life too much.

All four of the boys did spend summers in Yiling though, running around on the property and just causing general mischief in the village.

Jingyi ended up in trade school to become a mechanic, and opened up his own little shop in the city, though he would come back into the little village to do repairs and just help out in general for everyone, working on a pay what you can or bartering system, refusing to charge the people who had help raise him.

Zizhen went for a literature degree, and was actually working on edits so he could publish his second novel. The boy spent his time traveling around the country looking for inspiration, but the best love story in his opinion was his mama and baba, and he would always come back to them when he got stuck.

Sizhui, to the surprise of no one who knew him, went to school to get a music degree. But he also got a degree in agriculture, and chose to permanently move to Yiling to start his own little farm, feeling more comfortable with his mama and baba just down the street. He was also able to teach the villages children music, and he was more than happy to instill that passion into others.

Jin Ling was on his colleges archery team, and had chosen to pursue a history degree. What he actually planned to do with that degree, they weren't entirely sure yet. And if he didn't choose to use it, he was still the heir to Jin Enterprises, so he was set either way. He also swore to spend every summer he could in Yiling with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji for as long as he could, not wanting his relationship with his uncles to weaken at all.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were kept busy, having taken in a pair of orphaned twins from Yunmeng, everyone making fun of Lan Wangji when he would freak out because one of the infants did something he wasn't expecting. The Lan was definitely proving himself to be a worrier, to the point Jiang Cheng jokingly bought him a roll of bubble wrap for him to use on the twins when they learned to walked.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning officially moved out of the house, though the doctor still held her little office for the people of the village. Wen Ning just moved to a different place on the property, building himself a little house so he could give the little family their space, but Wen Qing moved a little farther away.

After the reunion of the Yiling group with the rest of their family, Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng had rekindled their high school romance, and Wen Qing ended up moving to Yunmeng and starting her own private practice. She also still made time to come back to Yiling to act as doctor for some of the older residents.

Two years later, Jiang Meiling was born, and Jiang Cheng was proposing to Wen Qing two years after that.

Out of the two of them, Jiang Cheng was definitely the groom-zilla, stomping around and yelling at everyone, demanding perfection for everything, refusing anything that wasn't the best of the best. He tried to tell Wen Qing not that she had a maximum budget for things like her dresses, but that she had a minimum she was allowed to spend.

Wen Qing promptly threatened to leave him if he didn't calm down and stop trying to control every little thing.

It all culminated in today, nearly seven and a half years after they were all able to come back to each other, Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng's wedding.

Wei Wuxian had been in both waiting rooms, toting flower girls Meiling and Xiaohua with him to watch Wen Qing bitch about all the formalities that went along with weddings, and Jiang Cheng was pacing back and forth, still muttering about how everything needed to be perfect.

"Da-jiu, calm down. You're making me dizzy."

"Baba! Baba! Dizzy!"

Meiling giggled as she copied her older cousin, clapping her hands and spinning so her dress would flare out.

"C'mon gege." Wei Wuxian chuckled at the look Jiang Cheng gave him at the name and walked over to sling an arm across his brother’s shoulders. "You'll be fine, it'll all be fine. I can't fathom why, but Wen Qing loves you, she wouldn't have let Meiling happen if she didn't. As long as both you and her say yes to each other, at the end of the day, that's all that matters. The amount of things that didn't go the exact way we planned at Lan Zhan and I's wedding was astounding, but in the end the only thing I could think about was that I was marrying the love of my life. And that's all you need to think about too."

Jiang Cheng sucked in a breath, then nodded, relaxing just a bit under Wei Wuxian's arm.

"I'll try. Now, I see you have those two, but don't you have two little Lan menaces you should wrangle before we start. We're supposed to start walking in ten minutes."

"Excuse you very much, the only one of my children who's a menace is Jingyi, and he'll admit to it, he's my exact copy and I'm not even genetically responsible for him. The twins are my perfect little angels, they can do no wrong."

"They built a fort in the living room with every single blanket, sheet, towel and whatever other linens I had they could get their hands on." Jiang Cheng deadpanned, shrugging his brothers arm off and shoving him towards the door. "Then tried to light a candle instead of getting a flashlight and almost lit the house on fire."

"Wait, really?"

"No, they didn't-"

Jiang Cheng slapped his hand over Wei Wuxian's mouth, cutting him off as he answered their niece.

"Yes, yes they did. They were only four and almost set the house on fire. How they got into the not easily accessible cabinet where the lighters were I don't know." He glared at Wei Wuxian, who had definitely taught them how to climb up onto the counter. "And now he needs to go find them to make sure they don't try to burn down the venue."

Jiang Cheng shoved him out the door at that, and he just rolled his eyes as he did what he was told.

The wedding was wonderful, mistakes were minor, and at the end everyone was happy. Wei Wuxian definitely cried when he walked down the aisle to stand next to his brother, and again when Wen Ning walked his sister down the aisle, and again when they were declared officially married. They had to touch up his make up before pictures because of how much he had cried.

He probably happy cried more than anyone else, though Jiang Cheng tried to catch up when during their first dance Wen Qing let him know that she was pregnant with their second child.

And the twins didn't set anything on fire, so to Wei Wuxian, the entire day was a win.

Notes:

That’s all folks!

The ending is always bittersweet, just cause you know you’re not gonna get to write those specific characters anymore. But it does give me opportunity to try to focus on other things.

Because this is the end, if there are any questions about anything, just let me know, because the end means nothing can be a spoiler and I can answer questions lol.

I do have more ideas for MDZS fics, but I definitely need to finish the other two WIPs that I have, so it won’t be until much future that those ideas see the light of day.

But, I’ve had fun and I hope all of you have too!

Anywho, see y’all in the next one!

Notes:

There’s chapter one for y’all, what do y’all think? I thrive off of validation from people I don’t know on the internet, so comments are appreciated, even if it’s to yell at me for something.

If y’all don’t wanna comment, I have both Twitter and Instagram under the same name as here, you’re all more than welcome to yell at me via messages. I’m not great at posting on either of those, but if you talk to me, I talk back. :)

I’m gunning for a Monday update schedule for this one, and my Haikyuu fic is slotted for Friday’s, so if that interests y’all, pop over there and check out Home!

Anywho, see y’all next time!
