TARDIS Trouble

Summary:

The Doctor & Damian's TARDISes clash and the owners change places. What do the companions do to help set things right?

Work Text:

Damian’s TARDIS spins through the cosmos like a spinning top with no end in sight, the battered old box hid a stark white interior with purple roundels and a console shining purple light across the room, which housed the crew.

In the console room, Damian was leaning on the console, looking at a monitor to wonder where to go while Minora was reading a comic book nearby. “Right… Where should we go..? Probably not to Terra-4, that place is corporate hell.” Damian says, talking to himself. Jay just happened to walk into the console room around this time, thinking of something. “Hey, Damian? I’ve been reading up on planets. I’ve heard there’s this entire planet made of crystals! I think it’s called ‘Chrysos-E’. How about we go there and take a look? Maybe even take a souvenir.” Jay asks, rambling a bit. “Chrysos-E? Never heard of it. We could go check it out. I was personally thinking of the Space Station hub orbiting Mirai-5. I hear it’s a popular tourist spot for travellers like us.” Damian replies. Minora looks up from his comic and decides to interject, bringing up one key factor of the TARDIS. “Hey, how about we visit some sort of ancient civilization? I’ve always wanted to see what the Babylonian Empire was all about.” Minora brings up. “Which one? There’s like 2.” Damian replies. “I dunno, surprise me.” Minora replies.

Meanwhile, in another TARDIS, this one looking more clean and shiny, The 13th Doctor and her fam, Yaz & Dan were all going someplace only The Doctor knew among them. “So, where are we going, Doctor?” Dan asks, a bit confused due to The Doctor not answering him earlier. “I told Yaz earlier, it’s a surprise. I’m not going to spoil it for either of you.” The Doctor answers, fiddling with the console actively as the crystal time rotor raises and falls. “Well, I just hope it’s those ‘sentient beaches of San Munrohvar’ you promised when you were going to reset the TARDIS. Not too keen on getting promised that and then getting exterminated by Daleks… repeatedly.” Yaz answers, slightly miffed. “I’m telling you, it’s a surprise! You’ll love it, trust me. No Daleks will be in sight.” The Doctor says, aware she didn’t get to those beaches yet. “I’ll just head off to get something to eat. I’m feeling particularly hungry.” Dan says, quickly running up to the corridors. “The kitchen is to the left of the library!” The Doctor shouts to make sure Dan doesn’t get lost. “Got it!” Dan replies, just about to enter the corridor. Yaz looks at The Doctor, she had been travelling with her for what felt like forever. Ever since she crashed into the train in a raggedy outfit, it felt as if the last few years had been a massive rush for her. The Doctor looks back at Yaz and smiles. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you and Dan love it. We deserve a bit of a break from danger anyway.” The Doctor says, trying to make Yaz seem sure they wouldn’t be in danger this time.

Back in Damian’s TARDIS, a beeping came from the console. It had detected another TARDIS, The Doctor’s TARDIS. “Huh, another TARDIS? Let me check.” Damian says, jogging to the console to look at another of the monitors. It was showing the two TARDISes, both on the same course, going the same speed. Damian panicked slightly. “Oh god, we’ve got to make this thing slow down, we’re gonna-” Damian tried to say. But before he could finish his sentence, the TARDISes clashed. Sparks explode from the consoles as The Doctor & Damian fall back, warping into each other's TARDISes.

Yaz panicked, she didn’t know what happened to The Doctor. The TARDIS console seemed to have sparked, The Doctor fell back and lying there was a different person she didn’t know. Soon, however, Damian woke up, looking around with a bit of panic. “Oh no… Why didn’t it get detected sooner?!” Damian says, getting up and running around The Doctor’s console room. “Wait, who are you? What are you on about?!” Yaz asks, confused. “I’m Damian and… Well, I’m not in my TARDIS anymore. Who are you, by the way?” Damian says, providing an answer & a question. “I’m Yasmin Khan, where is The Doctor?” Yaz replies, trying to get answers. “The Doctor? So this is his TARDIS I’m in… Not my personal choice of desktop, but eh, whatever floats his boat.” Damian replies. “You mean her, The Doctor’s a woman.” Yaz answers. “Oh, sorry. Last time I met her, she was a man with big blonde curly hair and a rainbow coat! Anyway, if I’m here, then The Doctor…” Damian says, before gasping. “The Doctor is in my TARDIS.” He finishes. Dan soon walks back from the kitchen, holding a plate with chips and baked beans on. “Uuh, Yaz, who is that blonde kid and where is The Doctor?” Dan asks. “Well, I think I know a bit now, but we need more answers.” Yaz answers.

The Doctor was lying near the console, just about to wake up, the flying sound of Damian’s TARDIS almost made it seem as if she was still in her own TARDIS… But she wasn’t. As she opened her eyes, the truth was revealed, being greeted by a white ceiling with a hexagon she had seldom seen since her first incarnation. “Did the TARDIS just redecorate? Did I lean on the wrong button or something?” The Doctor asked herself as she got up and looked around Damian’s TARDIS. Jay & Minora looked at The Doctor with confusion. One minute, their friend was there, the next, this strange woman with a long dark coat and blonde hair is where he once was. “Uhh… Who are you?” Minora asks, putting down his comic book. “Oh. I’m not in my TARDIS. Well, hello, you two. I’m The Doctor. You are?” The Doctor says, introducing herself. “I’m Jay, and this is Minora. What has happened with Damian?” Jay answers, introducing both him & Minora. “I’m not sure, but if I’m correct, when mine and your friend’s TARDISes clashed, I think it teleported anyone who was in direct contact with the console to the other TARDIS.” The Doctor explains. “Yeah, that does make sense. Damian was at the console before he disappeared.” Minora says. “OK, so until I get back with my TARDIS and my fam, you two and this TARDIS will have to do as temporary replacements.” The Doctor says, going a mile a minute. “Let’s at least discuss a plan first!” Minora says. Everyone was trying to make sense of the situation. “Good idea, Minora. We should do that.” The Doctor replies.

“So you’re saying that your TARDIS clashed into The Doctor’s and now you and her have swapped places?” Dan asks, relaying what he had heard from Damian & Yaz. “Pretty much, yeah. I’m gonna need help getting to it as well, I’m not used to this console.” Damian says, walking around the console. “You think either of you can help?” Damian asks, looking at Yaz & Dan. “I can. The Doctor has been giving me lessons.” Yaz says, walking towards Damian. “Perfect. We’ll fly it together. Maybe we’ll be able to get with The Doctor & my TARDIS quicker that way.” Damian replies, smiling. “Alright, seems good. You do know what you’re doing, right?” Yaz asks. “I’m sure of it, now, come on. We aren’t going to get anywhere just standing around and talking.” Damian says as he heads towards the console, accidentally stepping on a foot pedal which deployed a custard cream. Damian notices the biscuit, picks it up and eats it. “Huh, a biscuit dispenser. I gotta add that to my TARDIS.” Damian says after eating the custard cream. “Hey, don’t dilly dally, you can admire it later after we get to The Doctor.” Yaz says, trying to take control of the situation. “Ah, got it.” Damian says, facing the opposite end of the console compared to Yaz.

The Doctor had gotten the hang of Damian’s TARDIS quite well, barely needing any help. She was running around the console, controlling it as if she always had the desktop set to it! Soon, after 1 or 2 mishaps where Minora & Jay got into an adventure that The Doctor usually brings when she’s around, she managed to get it to land in the space station orbiting Mirai-5, near the ice cream parlour. The Doctor walks out and looks around. “You said he was planning to go here, right?” The Doctor asks Jay. “Yeah, he did. So that means he should be arriving soon…” Jay says as he & Minora walk out. The Doctor looks back at Damian’s TARDIS, not too pleased with how the exterior looked quite scruffy, she never really got used to it. Soon, they all hear the sound of a TARDIS landing quite a distance away. “There it is! Come on, Doctor!” Minora says, running towards the sound. Jay & The Doctor following not too far behind. The 3 of them ran across the space station, before being greeted by The Doctor’s TARDIS. Damian, Yaz & Dan soon walk out, Yaz & Dan wearing different outfits compared to when The Doctor last saw them while Damian was wearing The 13th Doctor’s rainbow scarf she last wore ages ago. “See? I told you we’d get back to The Doctor.” Damian says, but not before Yaz sprints to The Doctor and hugs her. “Huh, guess Yaz missed her a lot.” Damian continues. “Hey, Damian. Good to have you back.” Jay says as he walks towards Damian. “Yeah, neat scarf.” Minora says, walking towards him and giving him a fist bump. “How long has it been? It’s only been… a few hours for me, Jay and Minora.” The Doctor says, still in Yaz’s hug. Yaz soon pulled away. “Oh, Me & Damian couldn't really figure out where we should go. We kinda had a few adventures before we got here.” Yaz explains. “Yeah, Damian does things a bit differently compared to you, Doctor.” Dan says. “Well, unless you wanna explore this place with us. I guess this is goodbye.” Damian says, looking at The Doctor & her fam. “Well, I guess we could do with a bit of relaxation. Let’s stick around for a bit and see how things go. Sound good?” The Doctor says. “Eh, sure. I’ve been dying for a rest.” Damian says, looking at his team. “Yeah, let’s spend some time here.” Dan says, with Yaz and the others agreeing.

Everyone seemed to enjoy their time at the space station, going to all sorts of amusement parks, nature exhibits, arcades, etc etc… Before going their separate ways, though, Damian gave The Doctor a shard of Caerulium from Chrysos-E, which the Sontarans were using to power a deadly cannon, in trade for The Doctor’s rainbow scarf. “Well, I might use this sometime. If I ever do need a power supply, that is.” The Doctor says, looking back at her TARDIS. “Welp, I should be heading off. Minora and Jay are waiting for me! Thanks for letting me keep the scarf!” Damian says, waving goodbye as he runs to his TARDIS. The Doctor smiles, she hadn’t seen someone like him in a good while, as well as how good a condition he kept her TARDIS, despite his way of adventuring. The Doctor heads inside her TARDIS and soon, The Doctor and her fam leave the station, heading to new adventures…
