Obi-Wan would choose both

Summary:

Merry Christmas 2022!

Desire is fire, and hate is ice.

Work Text:

Obi-Wan looked over at his Master, his Master! He had a Master! Someone wanted him. He could be a Jedi!

-----

Obi-Wan grinned, racing across the field, hearing Satine trying to catch up. He slowed down just enough that she could catch him, laughing as they tumbled to the ground.

Satine giggled, pinning Obi to the floor, "I got you!"

Obi-Wan stared up at Satine, mouth wide up in a grin. "You did."

-----

Obi-Wan watched as they left; even before they had started to go, he watched as Satine walked away. He would have stayed if she had asked. Obi-Wan felt the ship fire up, the floor vibrating beneath his feet. But she did not want him.

-----

Obi-Wan watched from a distance as Master Qui-Gon continued to talk to the newest addition to his collection. He just knew that he would have to sort them out; after all, that is what happened with the other ones.

-----

"I will take Anakin as my Padawan learner."

Obi-Wan froze, his breath catching in his chest. His Master didn't want him? He wasn't ready for the trials yet.

-----

"No!"

Obi-Wan's mind was a blur; he just had to kill this beast to get to his Master. His body shook, his Force presence bearly restrained; he could feel the bond slowly withering away.
He felt himself slip, the light seeming further from him. He bitterly thought it was good that Qui-Gon was too weak to judge how good Obi-Wan felt as the beast fell away in two.

"Train the boy."

Obi-Wan sobbed, his eyes blurring, feeling the bright of his Master slip away. "I will, Master, I will, I promise."

-----

Obi-Wan smiled, shaking his head as Anakin cheered in joy as he raised around the room, right to where the presents were located under the mechanical tree.

When he heard of the Tatooine tradition, he knew he had to make it happen for Anakin. Even if it meant being up through the night to ensure everything was wrapped up and the womp rats were eating gone alongside the blue milk.

-----

Obi-Wan smiled as the newly knighted Anakin stared over his battalion, almost flattening the startled Rex, who just spluttered and pushed the overgrown Knight back with a chuckle. "You were right; Rex was a good choice, Cody."

Cody looked up at the General, "I have the highest trust that Rex will be able to keep up with General Skywalker."

"Of course, the Captain would; after all, he's you're vod'ika, Marshal Commander Cody?" Obi-Wan asked, hiding his smile at the happy-shock-excitement Cody emitted to The Force.

"Marshal Commander?" Cody asked, double-checking, "I'm a Marshal Commander?"

"How can I be a High General without a Commander?" Obi-Wan questioned.

"But, Marshal Commander?"

Obi-Wan chuckled, shaking his head slightly, "you have the skill; why not give you the rank you deserve?"

-----

"No!"

Obi-Wan felt his heart stop as he watched Satine be impaled.

-----

He hardly remembered what happened, only that he was now sitting in his office chair, a worried Cody standing in front of him.

"Obi-Wan?"

"I– I need to get out of this armour," Obi-Wan stuttered, looking down at the armour. His hands shook as his mind haunted him with images that the red paint was instead her blood, Satine's life force. He struggled with the clasps, fingers fumbling uselessly. His breath caught with a sob, unable to pry the plating from himself.

Cody reached forwards, clasping Obi-Wan's, shaking his hands in his own. "Let me," he whispered, slowly undoing the clasping as Obi-Wan nodded.

Obi-Wan sobbed, "thank you."

-----

Obi-Wan laughed as Cody bickered with his ori'vod. It turns out that having a high-up rank like High General did some good.

-----

Obi-Wan felt The Force grow cold, his bonds severing, a chill running down his back. He reached out, trying to find Cody through the dark.

"Blast him!"

Obi-Wan gasped as he was thrown from his mount, plummeting into the icy cold water.

-----

Obi-Wan stared down at his old padawan. Already burned from lava, he wished Anakin would not succumb to his stubbornness, finally listening that the anger he faced was false. "It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground."

"You underestimate my power!" Anakin snarled.

"Don't try it," Obi-Wan begged; he didn't want to kill his old padawan. He raised this man from a boy; he couldn't do it, no matter what Master Yoda thought.

Anakin snarled, jumping at his old Master, lightsaber ready.

Obi-Wan locked eyes with Anakin before bringing his lightsaber around, cutting into Anakin, and closing his eyes as the man screamed. He breathed, looking down at where Anakin was trying to get up from the sand. "You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to The Force, not leave it in Darkness." Obi-Wan closed his eyes before reaching down and grabbing Anakin's lightsaber; he looked at Anakin one last time before walking away.

"I hate you!"

Obi-Wan glanced over his shoulder, sighing, "you were my brother, Anakin. I loved you."

Anakin stared up at Obi-Wan in shock before screaming as he felt himself suddenly burst into flames.

Obi-Wan closed his eyes before picking up his pace and running to the ship. He still couldn't kill that boy; he still could not land that final blow.

-----

Ben stared at the black beast before him, the past echoing in his ears. He felt the cold of the hate that filled the air. He looked up at Vader, one last smile across his face. He closed his eyes, welcoming the embrace of The Force, chuckling as he felt the awe-anger-frustration of Vader one final time.

-----

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.

But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
