Work Text:
Kya sat nervously in Lin's office, fidgeting with her pants.
She had been building up the courage to confess her feelings to Lin for weeks, and she knew that this was the moment she had to do it.
"Lin," Kya said, her voice shaking slightly. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time."
Lin looked up from the paperwork on her desk, a slight frown on her face. "What is it, Kya?"
Kya took a deep breath and plunged ahead. "I have feelings for you. I care about you deeply and I want to be with you."
Lin's expression softened as she listened to Kya's confession.
"Kya, I care about you too," she said. "But it is dangerous for someone like me to be in a relationship. As the chief of police, I have a certain level of public scrutiny on my life and anything that I do can have consequences. I don't want to put you in a position where you might be targeted because of your relationship with me."
Kya nodded, understanding the risk that being in a relationship with Lin posed. "I understand," she said, fighting back tears. "I just wanted you to know how I felt."
Lin reached out and took Kya's hand in hers. "I appreciate your honesty and your bravery in telling me this," she said. "But for now, I think it's best if we remain friends."
Kya nodded, tears now streaming down her face. "I understand," she said, standing up and turning to leave the office.
As she walked out, Lin couldn't help but feel a big pang of guilt and sadness at the thought of not being able to be with Kya. But she knew that it was the right decision for both of their safety and well-being.
