Chapter Text
Jungkook reappeared with the first rain of autumn.
“Why did you bring me here?” Taehyung asked looking around the house. He had received earlier a text from Jungkook. The latter brought him to a remote place outside of the city for the day to talk. It left Taehyung confused and nervous.
“I wanted to spend some time with you,” Jungkook said guiding Taehyung towards the bedroom. Without another word, he started to undress and went on the bed. “I will take you back later,” he added calmly.
“We shouldn’t have sex, Jungkook” Taehyung said as he undressed as well. He knew the ritual by now. However, something felt different during that chilly autumn afternoon.
“I don’t want sex,” Jungkook chuckled softly as he always did. Taehyung took his extended hand and lay down on the mattress next to the alpha. “I just want to lie down for a bit,” Jungkook said resting his head on Taehyung’s chest.
“I heard that you kept your position as the head of the clan,” Taehyung dared after a moment. Jungkook simply hummed in response. “Why did you bring me here?” he asked finally. He doubted that it was only to share an intimate moment.
“I am no longer the powerful man that I was,” Jungkook answered after a quiet moment. He rested his ear above Taehyung’s heart as if to feel any lie.
“I was never interested in that, if you recall right,” Taehyung countered easily. And it was the genuine truth.
“Did you hear from your sister?” Jungkook asked finally. He had learnt that Namjoon used Seojun as a paw in his grand plan. The woman faded into thin air, and Jungkook doubted that she was living peacefully somewhere. She turned completely useless for Namjoon now that he had his clan back.
“No,” Taehyung shook his head, “and I am not seeking her actively. I am content and busy with the life I have,” he admitted. He had been indeed busy meeting omegas from the different clans, and setting in motion their plans for change. It was hard but rewarding task.
“I heard about your accomplishments,” Jungkook nuzzled the warm skin. He closed his eyes and focused on the pouring rain outside. He felt at ease and in peace right then and there. Then again, Taehyung always had that peculiar effect on him.
“Change is on the way,” Taehyung stated with a clear pride. The clans slowly started to take seriously their demands.
“Isn’t it frightening how things can change so easily and drastically?” Jungkook asked wrapping tightly an arm around Taehyung’s waist.
“Not every change is negative,” Taehyung whispered as he eyed the window. Droplets of water traveled down the frame and met at its edge. They formed a bigger mass that flowed down the wall surely. Taehyung pictured it spreading onto the green grass and feeding it.
“Binna and I are separated,” Jungkook confessed breaking the silence. Taehyung tensed from the revelation. “I told you we were never truly a couple. She is looking for more power than I can offer now. It was meant to end this way. We always knew.”
“I am sorry,” Taehyung breathed stunned.
“Don’t be,” Jungkook laughed softly. The vibration spread to Taehyung’s chest. “We got together out of greed. We merely worked together towards something greater. Now, times are changing apparently.”
“You said that you cared about me,” Taehyung whispered. His heart hammered in his chest. Jungkook felt easily against his cheek. “Did you mean it when you gave me that bag?”
“I do,” Jungkook confessed after a pregnant pause. “I said the truth. Yet you always have trouble believing me,” he added after a moment.
“I meant it too,” Taehyung admitted with flaming cheeks.
They remained quiet for a long while, and only listened to the pouring rain and the soft melody of wind.
“Sometimes, change means progress,” Taehyung said breaking the silence. Jungkook was already asleep then, resting peacefully in his arms. Taehyung smiled to himself. He did not need a pink sky to know that tomorrow would be a much better day.
Only good days awaited.
