Impatience wasn’t her virtue. Nanako asked him the next day, standing behind her guardian and braiding his hair as he flipped through a page in his book. Getou-sama, she had said, as casually as she could. Who’s Gojo Satoru?
Getou-sama hummed, the June-cool wind carding its fingers across his hair. He was my best friend, he replied, without even much of a pause. But we fought, and it’s been like this ever since.
Nanako and Mimiko exchanged glances.
Do you… Mimiko said. Do you miss him?
Getou-sama smiled. And there was an inward turning of his eyes, then, a gentling of the corners of his mouth. His warmth a surprise that softened him over, turned him mortal. I don’t miss the way he always messed up my hair, that’s for sure, he said kindly. Not like you two. And that was all he ever spoke about it.
