Wind Rider

Summary:

It was a beautiful day in Mondstadt.

Notes:

This is me getting back into fic writing for the first time in a very long time.

Work Text:

Mondstadt was windy today.

Well, it was always windy, given the nature of its archon. But today especially so.

This kind of weather was the best, in Amber’s opinion. Running through the woods on her way back to the city proper, she could feel the shift in the winds, could feel the way the wind picked up Barbatos was moving his attention elsewhere.

At least that’s what Amber interpreted it as, and as the Mondstadt Gliding Champion, she felt like she should be considered an expert on such things.

Amber was unable to stop the growing smile on her face as her own feet tried to match the wind, going faster and faster and faster-

The edge of the cliff was rapidly approaching and-

She was soaring.

For a brief moment, where time seemed to still, she closed her eyes. Embracing the feeling of weightlessness. And then her glider was unfolding and the winds were lifting her farther and farther away from the cliff's edge, and closer to the safety of the ground. She couldn’t help but laugh as the wind buffeted her face.

The breeze felt so refreshing!

There were few things that could compare to gliding, very few. Her vision and her role as an Outrider were not far behind however. Looking down at the forest below as a wind current sent her higher and higher.

The trees of the Whispering Wood grew smaller, but now she could better see the goings on between them. Small animals she dismissed, slimes were in their usual habitats, but most relieving of all were the lack of hilichurls.

And there, strolling down the road below her-

She hit the ground running. The trees rattled overhead, the world flickering around her as the sunlight danced through the canopy.

“Hey, you! Stop right there!”
