Chapter Text
The night continues just as it was meant to. Short lived yet needed. Louis and Harry go inside after finishing their wine and the sun finally disappeared under the vast sea. Louis helps Harry clean up his house, pick up the old food boxes and old clothes that were thrown around. They play music like Stevie Nicks and Catfish and the Bottlemen, just dancing around and being in the company of an old friend.
It takes a turn however, when Hopelessly Devoted to You from Greece starts to play. Louis’s heart drops instantly and he pauses on his way to pick up a cup from the floor. When he turns around he sees Harry smiling at him, hands stretched out and begging to be held. Louis takes a deep breath and walks towards the boy.
“Remember when we used to do this, almost every week?” Harry asks, grabbing Louis by his hips and taking the lead, swaying them to the music.
“Yeah…” Louis replies, his voice cracking slightly. “I remember everything from when we were together.” Louis keeps his eyes downwards, his hands lose around Harry’s neck, afraid of doing anything to change what has been.
“Lou…” Harry starts. He lifts his hand from Louis’s waist and brings it under Louis’s chin so they meet eye to eye. “When we… when we ended things, I know it was for the best but it-“ Harry pauses, his eyes starting to gloss over.
“Yeah… I know.” Louis can feel his throat start to close up as he knows Harry’s is as well.
“I know it was for the best. I know that we needed to figure ourselves out and grow independently but ever since then, I’ve been so lost. You’re the one who has kept me steady. You’re the one who I can’t get enough of and yeah I know I have fucked up and I also know that we were never perfect. We never will be perfect but I know that when I’m with you, I’m better.” A tear slides down Harry’s cheek and Louis lifts his thumb to wipe it away.
“I’ve never been able to get rid of you. You’re a drug to me. You’re what I crave and what I desire more than anything. I know this past year hasn’t been easy. I know a lot has happened with your career and with us and with my career… but I’m never going to be able to stop being in love with you.” Louis says, lips curving up slightly.
“I’ve never stopped being in love with you either.” Harry states, more tears falling. The next thing Louis knows, Harry lifts his hands up and cups Louis’s cheeks, bringing their lips together. It’s like all of the trouble, all of the worry, all of the pain, it’s gone. And yes. They do need to talk. Yes there were problems and yes they do need to figure shit out but they’re okay. They have always been okay when they are together. They always will be.
Harry breaks the kiss first and chuckles to himself. “What?” Louis asks, smiling as well.
“Do you think the stars can see us?” Louis smiles even wider.
“I mean we are inside right now.” Louis chuckles. Harry then grabs Louis’s hand and drags him outside to the patio once more.
“Now… do you think the stars can see us?” Harry asks.
“I mean… yeah. Do they have eyes? If so then most likely.” It might sound stupid to most but it has always been this way. Harry always gets questions during the most random moments and never fails to ask them to Louis… and Louis has never stopped him.
Harry turns and presses his stomach to Louis’s back. They both look up and cling to each other. “If every star is an eye in the sky… maybe we could see angels fly.”
Louis stares and hopes that maybe Harry is right. He hopes that maybe, just maybe, angels are looking down at them. They are flying and watching over them and smiling because they know that two people who love each other are healing. Healing takes time. It won’t be easy. It definitely won’t be fast… but if Louis knows anything, it’s that Harry is worth all the time in the world and nothing else really matters.
