Chapter 9: Tomorrow's coming and has gone

Notes:

I took the rest of December off, but here's the last and shortest chapter. Thank for all the sweet comments.

Chapter Text

Harry stayed in the hospital for a while. Well, about two weeks. Apparently he had a stab wound that needed to be checked on to make sure it didn't get infected. Harry thought it was bullshit, it wasn't going to get infected, he was fine. For the most part. He was healing fine, it didn't hurt nearly as bad anymore. He just wanted to go home! In his own bed! What he really wanted to do was go to the arcade. He honestly wanted to go anywhere.

Harriet on the other hand was glad that he was at the hospital. She didn't want to take him home at all, she was upset with James and didn't want Harry to be subjected to it. Apparently the old man had said 'it serves him right' and 'if he can't handle a little beating he's a disgrace to the Hook name.' Harriet had gone off on him, even CJ chipped in on her feelings about it.

And then there was Uma. Uma made sure she went to the hospital every day as soon as she could after work and school. It seemed to be their new meeting spot for the mean time. Of course Harry looked forward to it all day because everything else was fucking boring until she came by. Harry liked to be dramatic and say that he needed her love and affection in order to make it through another day.

Of course he wouldn't of made it through those painstakingly terrible weeks without Uma. But luckily he had her, and even though time in the hospital seemed to last forever, it did eventually end. The day of his dismissal finally arrived.

Harriet came by to sign the discharge papers. Uma stated in the room with Harry and helped gather his stuff.

"So what are you gonna do when you get to see the world again?" Uma joked

Harry groaned "Anything. Everything. Go to the arcade?" He asked her raising his eyebrows.

"I don't know. It seems to have a bad influence on you" she told him

"Whatever do you mean?" Harry asked curiously

"You've started taking street fighter to seriously. You didn't need to start playing in real life." Uma told him

Harry chuckled slightly "Yeah well maybe we need to switch it up huh? Play something else so I don't get anymore ideas"

Uma laughed "what do you suggest?"

"Pac-man?" Harry suggested smiling

They hadn't played Pac-Man in forever. It wasn't really a two player game, but the arcade had gotten another Pac-Man console that was for two players. They hadn't played it though because they already had their game, street fighter. Of course they couldn't forget though, that Pac-Man was the game the sparked the beginning of their friendship.

"Sure" Uma said "Pac-Man it is"

Harry didn't have much in the hospital so it was easy to get his stuff ready. Harriet came back up to the room with his discharge papers and they were set. Harry was grateful for all the hospital had done for him, but he was more grateful at this moment, to be leaving that hospital.

The outside world was beautiful. Was it always this beautiful? The Hook siblings were very extroverted people, it was never good when they were kept inside for over 24 hours let alone two weeks. Harriet seemingly hovered over Harry because she was still concerned about whether or not he was actually okay. He was absolutely fine, but that was Harriet for ya. Uma was just as happy as Harry though, she didn't like having to visit the hospital everyday.

"You need anything? Want any food?" Harriet asked when they were in the car.

Harry and Uma were seated in the back while Harriet drove. "Yes. I want everything" Harry said. Hospital food was disgusting.

Harriet nodded slightly as she started to drive. The sounds of Harry and Uma laughing, talking, and small banter was the most comforting sound in the world. If you didn't know any better you'd think that they hadn't spoken in years.

Harry was safe and sound now. Safe and home. But that didn't mean he was safe from Harriet's wrath.

Harry was happy to be free, but apparently he wasn't because Harriet grounded him. He tried to argue it but few had ever won an argument against Harriet. So, he was grounded for two weeks. Two weeks because Harriet felt bad when Harry was on the verge of tears fighting his sentence. CJ made sure to rub it in his face.

But the second he could leave. Everybody could guess the first place he would go. The Arcade. Though Harriet insisted she drive him.

"Have fun, stay safe" Harriet called out after Harry

Harry waved back. "Promise" he told her

And suddenly he felt like he was walking into heaven because through the bright neon window he could see that angel again. His angel. She wasn't what many would consider an angel, soft, lovely, nice, no she was something else completely but it was perfect.

Uma turned around smile growing as she spotted him. "Hey bruiser ready to go?" She said

He'd never been more ready in his life.
