Chapter Text
Just like in the waiting room, hardly anything had changed. The doctors would come in check on Harry, they had given him some drugs for the healing process which is why he still hadn't woken up.
Satisfied enough with the visit, Harriet had made the executive decision that she needed to take CJ home. Poor girl was exhausted even though she denied it and tried to refuse to go home with Harriet. But the sun would be up in only a few hours, they had to go home.
Harriet wanted to take Uma home, but unlike CJ, she couldn't force Uma to do anything, she wasn't her actual sister. And Uma wanted to stay, to be there when Harry woke up. Harriet gave up on trying, but told Uma she wasn't allowed to walk home and would have to stay at the hospital until Harriet came back to visit again with her car. Uma agreed, she would sleep on the couch in the hospital room.
After the Hook sisters left Uma eventually feel asleep. She couldn't stay awake in the silence, and she too was exhausted. It was a good deep sleep, one of the nurses had given her a blanket. It wasn't a comfy couch but it felt like heaven because she was so tired.
Uma got good hours of sleep in, the sun shone through the window next to her as she heard the voice of a woman talking and another voice. An oh so familiar voice, but it sounded rough and groggy.
Suddenly the realization hit Uma in her state of waking up, and in a second she snapped awake sitting almost straight up. She looked over to where the hospital bed was. The woman had stopped talking and was now starring at her, but it couldn't matter less because on the bed a beautiful boy was half sitting up and was starring at her with his piercing ocean eyes. He shyly waved at her as a tiny smile grazed his face. It almost looked like he was blushing.
Uma didn't have a tiny smile, she had the biggest smile, maybe the biggest smile that had ever grazed her face. She giggled bubbly.
"Well someone's happy to see you" the nurse told Harry and smiled "I'll leave you two be and I'll be back later to give you the rest of your medicine mr. Hook" she said leaving shortly after
Harry watched her leave and turned back to Uma immediately. She got up and ran over hugging him lightly so she didn't hurt him. But he pulled her closer and squeezed her as tight as he could.
When they pulled apart Uma just stood back and took him in, making sure it was real.
"So... I'm alive." He said sheepishly
Now why would he have to go ruin the mood.
"Barley. Where's my thank you?" Uma said. Last night was catching up to her now that he was awake.
"Thank you." Harry said "I knew I wasn't imagining that angel" He was completely serious.
Uma stared at him. She was resisting the urge to smile. She wanted to be serious right now. She cleared her throat "We need to talk Harry. How could you do that to me? How could you do that to yourself?"
"I did it for you... I know I look bad but you should see the other guys" Harry tried joking
"I didn't need you to do anything for me. Harry, all you did was hurt me and you got hurt." Uma said
"I know you didn't need me to, I wanted to"
"Then you need to learn how to have better impulse control because that was not okay. And you promised, how could you break your promise" Uma said, she was more sad than she was angry but still.
"I'm sorry. I'll never do it again. I'm sorry if I broke your trust" Harry apologized
"Apologizing doesn't heal your wounds. I'm not as upset that you broke your word as I am that you have no concern for your well being. I mean don't get me wrong I am mad that you lied to me and broke your promise and not only did you do that to me you did it to your sisters."
Harry stared at her in silence, he hadn't really had the time to think about his sisters. It hit him like a brick when Uma brought it up. His silence prompted Uma to keep talking.
"You have no idea how miserable last night was for us. You better apologize to Harriet when she gets here. You told her you would be right back home and then hours passed and you still weren't home. We found you beaten in an ally way Harry. She'll never trust you alone again." Uma stated "I never thought I would have to see something that horrible"
Harry looked away from her. He could only imagine how upset Harriet was, she was always trying to protect him and CJ. "I wasn't thinking clearly. You're right. I'll keep apologizing for the rest of my life."
"You don't need to apologize you need to never do anything like that again, Harry you could've died." Uma told him sternly
"I'm reminded of that every time I move. I'm in so much pain right now." Harry said
Uma sighed "are you okay?" She said quietly
"I'm not dead, which is all that matters. Thanks to you and Harriet I suppose"
"Yes I suppose so" Uma said deadpan
Harry looked at her. Stared at her. If they hadn't found him when they did he never would've seen her beautiful face again. Never laughed with her. Never gone to the arcade again. It was a miracle, she was a miracle, his light, his life, his savior.
"Uma" he said gaining her attention "I love you"
Because tomorrow isn't guaranteed. He was so close to never being able to say that again so he would say it now and forever more.
Uma was conflicted. Of course she loved him, she wouldn't have gone through all that trouble if she didn't. But something about this moment felt like it wasn't the right time to say it. When she said that to him she wanted it to be with her whole heart, not when she was angry with him.
Her silence concerned Harry. "If you don't love me anymore that's okay. And if you don't want to be with me anymore that's okay too. But... but I'll still love you. Always, I promise." He said
He was an insecure boy. He was ranting just like how he had the day he confessed his feelings to her.
"Harry. Please stop. I love you, nothing will ever change that. And I still want to be with you, okay? I'm just upset right now" Uma said. Because she felt the same way, you never know when the last time you'll get to tell someone you love them will be.
Harry sighed it was a relief but he didn't want her to feel like she had to stay that. "You don't have to say that just because I'm hurting" he told her
"Harry. I know you feel bad about everything, but do you know how much shit I've gone through for you in the past few hours?" Uma asked but she wasn't upset "of course I love you. Don't ever doubt that. Never, okay?"
Harry smiled a little. Her saying that made all his pain seem to disappear. "okay" he said.
Uma couldn't help but smile back.
"So. Can I kiss you then" Harry asked. He'd been wanting to do it since he woke up and saw her sleeping on the couch. He wanted to thank her for staying with him and not letting him wake up alone.
"Really Harry" Uma laughed a little raising her eyebrow
Harry shrugged his shoulders smiling "Hey you gotta seize every moment right?"
Uma pretended to think about it. Truthfully she had been wanting to kiss him all night. Now the moment had come so she wouldn't pass it up. "I suppose..." She said
"Really?" He questioned, just making sure
"Yeah, why not" she said nonchalantly trying to hide her happiness
Harry sat up and grunted at the pain. But he was excited so he didn't much care. He grabbed her gently by the waist pulling her closer and in one quick movement guided his face to hers.
Harry placed his lips firmly on Umas. It was the first kiss they shared that he had initiated. Uma lost her balance a little trying to lean forward seemingly melting into him.
"AHHHHH! I FUCKING KNEW IT!"
The scream made Uma and Harry pull apart looking at the doorway where CJ and Harriet were standing. CJ was giddily jumping up and down. Harriet didn't much care about the couple, she already knew, what she cared about was that her brother was awake.
"OH MY GOSH! Wait! Harry your awake!" CJ screamed.
"How are you Harry?" Harriet questioned seriously
"He's obviously good if he's sucking faces with Uma" CJ giggled
Harry's eyes widened in embarrassment. Uma just raised her eyebrow at the odd phrasing.
"Never say that again. And I wasn't talking to you so shush" Harriet told CJ "Harry?" She questioned again
"I'm not good. But I could be worse I guess" he stated
"You could be dead" his sister told him as she and CJ walked further into the room
"Exactly. Thank you by the way." Harry replied "for always looking out for me" he said quieter but Harriet still heard
"Of course. I always will" she said patting his shoulder
"Alright, alright, we're glad you're up and well Harry. But how are you not shocked about this newly developed relationship Hattie" CJ said
Harriet rolled her eyes "I already knew."
"You told her and not me!" CJ asked Harry offended
"I didn't tell her anything. I'm pretty sure she knew before I did" he said
"This is true" Harriet nodded
Harry was so glad to be awake and doing well. Glad to be alive. Glad that he had the bestest girlfriend and sisters, even though he wouldn't tell his sisters that, he would tell Uma any day though.
The nurse eventually came back, told Harry how Uma, Harriet, and CJ had waited in the waiting room for hours. Harry insisted that Uma and Harriet tell him the whole story of the night before. As they told him, he apologized profusely and told them his side of the story, even though they still thought he was an idiot.
But what Harry took from this story is that he lucked out pretty hard with the women in his life. What would he do without them?
