Notes:

Thanks for the prompt @Heraeira, I'm not sure this was the idea you've had but I've tried. I hope you like it!

Work Text:

She did have a day off but she didn’t know what to do. Everybody was at work. She wanted to be at work. Apparently she couldn't because she worked too many hours this week. She did the grocery shopping and laundry in the morning and she was bored. She didn’t have anything to do and walking seemed to be a good idea at the time but it was Seattle and it already started raining. Meredith didn’t mind the rain or getting wet but she would prefer a much better weather. She walked along the street while everybody was running from the rain. She walked calmly. She looked at the stores. This is like being a normal person. She thought to herself. She saw a lot of cats in one of the places she was looking. It looked cosy. She looked at the sign. It said ‘whiskers and fluffy’. She looked at the place while standing outside. People just come here and play with cats? She scanned the place and what people were doing. She stopped when she saw a beautiful redhead. The same redhead, she was in surgery with her just yesterday. She tried to understand what she was doing. Addison looked calm. She looked calm when she was in surgery but this was a different calm. She didn’t look like a Satan. She didn’t look like the woman who cheated on her husband. She wasn't the ruler of all that is evil when she was sitting with an orange ball of fluffy cat curled up on her lap, sipping her hot tea, smiling and looking stunningly beautiful.

Wow. Meredith thought. This must be the real Addison. She respected the attending surgeon, Addison Forbes Montgomery was definitely beautiful. No one can deny that but she wasn’t wearing her usual pencil skirt, heels or an expensive blouse. She was wearing sneakers, jeans and a beige sweater, her hair was in a messy bun. When she was looking like this, just being Addison naturally; there was nothing more beautiful than this. Meredith stood there and examined every move Addison made. She calmly stroked the cat. She whispered something time to time. She looked so peaceful. Meredith wanted to go and tell her how beautiful she looked like this.

Meredith didn’t know how many minutes she stood up there. Her phone rang and she came back to reality.

“Hello” She said only.

“Are you gonna come inside or are you gonna keep staring at me?”

“Doctor Montgomery?!” Meredith looked at her again behind the glass. Addison was looking at her too this time. Meredith entered the cafe and sat next to her attending. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t looking at you.” She said but it wasn’t convincing.

“You were. Don’t lie to me.”

“Sorry about that.” Meredith stroked the cat sitting on Addison’s lap. “You looked so stunningly beautiful and you are extremely beautiful right now. And I just couldn’t stop staring. I’m really sorry Doctor Montgomery.”

“You can call me Addison.” She smiled at the intern. Meredith felt a little bit relaxed.

“I’m sorry again, Addison.”

“No problem, now let’s get you some tea because you must be freezing.” Addison wanted 2 cups of tea for themselves. “First, we won’t ever speak of this because I’m still the ruler of all that is evil when I’m at work. I don’t want people to know I have a soft spot for cats.”

“Promise.” Meredith said and drew an imaginary zipper with her fingers across her mouth. They smiled at each other.

“Second of all, this Milo. He is very old and likes to sleep on my lap a lot.” She looked at the cat and grew a bigger smile. One of the little cats jumped into Meredith’s lap and climbed to her chest. Addison let out a chuckle. “I think she found a perfect place to sleep. That is Sharna, she is just 1 years old. Her mother must be somewhere in here.”

“Do you come here a lot?” Meredith asked.

“I don’t exactly have friends here. Yeah, I come here when I have a day off or when I don’t want to be alone in a hotel room.” They continued stroking their cats in silence.

Meredith looked at the beautiful redhead. Meredith found herself smiling.

That was the first cat-date they’ve had. Addison remembered the memory of them. How it started with them. She felt so embarrassed when she saw the blonde intern who was looking at her. She didn’t mean to call her but she did. That was the best thing that happened to her. They came here when they had their off days. This place became their secret spot for a long time. They have just met up here, always. She looked at her wife, the same seat she was sitting years ago when their friendship started. Her gaze shifted to their kids who were running around and playing with the cats. She looked at her wife again and held her hand.

“What are you thinking?” Meredith squeezed her hand while smiling at her.

“Just how much I love you.” She put a little kiss on her wife’s lips. Addison was never alone after that first date.

Have a nice day everyone!
